Forums - Movies & TV - I will pay more money for a non-3D movie when watching it in theaters

Looking at his posts, It all reeks of viral marketing... Ive never seen anyone praise 3d like this with mostly incorrect information.

He's been doing it for ages as well.  The most frustrating part is when you call him out on it he'll just post the exact same wrong information a few days later.  You'd think he'd just stick to the dishonest, but not factually incorrect claims like 3DTV sales increasing.  Of course he likes to paint it as 2D being dead despite the sales still being far ahead of 3DTV's.

I would say he's a viral marketer too, but I can't imagine anyone actually paying for those posts.

Yeah it certanly appears so... really amusing to read actually.

People that have known me for a while know that I was the biggest supporter of 3D initially and know quite a bit about it.

I bought one of the first 3D TV prototypes (Samsung DLP with checkerboard 3D) in 2008, I was using Nvidia 3D vision the day it came out(2009).

I made threads like this 4 years ago:

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=96167

So when I read stuff he is posting, I just laugh.

Oh wow. Never knew such a thing existed. Pretty cool.

See, now we can all enjoy 3D movies.... LOL

I don't want them to take away from your enjoyment of 3D, but looking at this thread its clear that more people dislike it, than appreciate it.

I too have 2 3D capable TVs and had 3D capable projectors, and monitors (that I sold).  I would not feel a bit riped off if bad 2D to 3D conversions stopped coming out of holywood. 3D doesn't have to die, but should be focused on movies that are shot iwith 3D in mind and benefit from having 3D.

In terms of gaming, 3D is always welcome as well...especially on PCs where it can still provide breathtaking experiences.

Except you still get all the downsides, less color saturation and contrast, restrictions in film style, mostly in composition and editting of the content.

I'm not opposed to a good 3D CGI blockbuster fest, but I don't see it as an evolution of movies, only another style. Just like b&w, hand-drawn/computer/stop motion animation, documentary, hand-held, film noir, expirimental, stylized, hyper realism, and whatever I forgot. 3D is suited to mix with some styles, not most.

The price hike for 3D tickets is currently forcing directors to opt for 3D with theaters heavily promoting the 3D version. They either don't show the 2D version or have very limited 2D viewings. This current trend is restricting the richness of film making.
Movies like Cloverfield, District 9, Natural born killers, Moonrise Kingdom, City of god to name a few are all incompatible with stereoscopic 3D in their intended form.

Get rid of the premium price, let the content do the speaking again instead of theaters pushing 3D.

Apart from Avatar, I've yet to see another 3D movie where the 3D effect was good. Nowadays I avoid 3D movies since I don't see any real added value and the regular version is cheaper.

You should have watched; OZ the Great and Powerful & The Great Gatsby & Star Trek Into Darkness & World War Z in 3D.

And watched; Iron Man 3 & Man of Steel & G.I. Joe Retaliation in IMAX 3D.

You can still see World War Z in 3D, and Man of Steel in IMAX 3D.

I would suggest seeing Pacific Rim in 3D, because the pure live-action is soooo good in 3D, and the pure CGI is equally as good in 3D too in this same movie.

R.I.P.D. Is good in 3D too.

I'm not big on 3D and couldn't care less about it. I find the 3D stuff that pops out are blocking the entire view solely because your eyes are just focused on the 3D part.

Nothing pops out of the screen in 3D Movies.

I'm guessing the last time you saw a 3D Movie was in 2010 or earlier, huh?

Well everything 3D is completely INWARD since 2011, including 100% of Nintendo 3DS games (if you exclude the one particular 2D sprite eShop game: Samurai Sword Destiny).

I hate the 3D on my 3DS XL. The ghosting is just really horrible. Sometimes when I play Donkey Kong, I move the system just a little bit and can't see anything. Then I die. That's why I always play with 3D off. It's nice when you see it for the first time, but it gets old with time.

I also happen to have a 3D TV, but I barely use that feature anymore. I played Killzone 3 in 3D but it just doesn't add anything. Instead, it tires my eyes.

I think there is a pretty good reason why most TV manufacturers do not advertise 3D anymore (at least where I live). Sure modern TVs are all capable of doing 3D and so the sales of 3D TVs do increase on paper. But nobody really wants it all that much.

But don't get me wrong, I don't want 3D to disappear. If you have fun with it, that's fine by me. I just want 2D to stay, that's all.

I heard of people always falling asleep for the ones that can't handle 3D.

Do you ever go into a deep sleep when viewing 3D?

Anyways all 3D electronics can view 3D in 2D like 3D TV & 3DS & so fort. I don't see a reason for 3D to go away, since everyone can still watch it in 2D. I just think some of these other users are extremely 2D bias. If you can watch all 3D things in 2D (which you can), then there is no reason to make threads like this nor wish for 3D to go away, and this thread just seems really fanboyish when you consider reality.

Falling asleep? What? Close your eyes or look away maybe to get rid of that umcofortable feeling caused by the mismatch in focus and convergence. A headache possibly but falling asleep, never heard of that.

I do see a reason for 3D to tone down a bit as it is limitting film and editting techniques. It restricts the artistic expression. It would not work with or ruin most of my favorite movies.

I'm not sure what you mean with this:
*looks at Pacific Rim 3D trailer in theaters and disagrees with statement*

For me it affirms everything about it being a gimmick. It reminds me of the Star tours attraction in Disneyland, that trailer belongs in a simulator ride. Anyway it's impossible to judge a movie from a trailer, just a bunch of special effects thrown together.
I really like Pan's Labyrinth from Guillermo del Torro, and I don't see how 3D can be anything but a distraction while watching that. Plus it wouldn't have looked that way if it had been made for 3D. Pacific rim I can't get excited for at all.

I have come across people who say within 10 minutes of watching 3D movies like Avatar, they will get headaches & nausea and then fall into a deep sleep.

And they say they don't know how they slept thru the entire movie for some of these 3D movies, because some if them where soo loud like avatar, at least when they fell asleep it was soo loud.

Well, that's what a bunch of people who also hate 3D movies say.

Pacific Rim 3D in the pure live-action scenes is what I was referring to, but the pure CGI scenes have equal 3D greatness (there are also mix scenes, which are also equal in 3D greatness). Despite such an extreme gap created by 3D depth, you still see all of the backgrounds & foregrounds fully focus all at once (like a million 3D movies & games before it, i.e. The Great Gatsby & Kid Icarus: Uprising & etc. etc.) and no amount of imagination can do any good in comparison no matter how much propaganda some people will try to spread about all 3D movies, when only a few of them are actually bad (referring to 3D movies from 2011 or 2012 and beyond).

When it comes to gimmicky, well audio & color with thru the same exact phase when they where trying to be establish as the norm. (see Batman series from 1960's starring Adam West, and also see any movies from the first several years of Audio Hollywood movies)

We have went from everyone speaking super fast in movies & Tv, to speaking like normal people. (audio was equally gimmicky as 3D)

We have went from color movies & shows being riducoulus in appearance (more gimmicky then 3D) to being like real life in later years movies & shows. (color was even more of a gimmick in its use when it was new for everything, then 3D has been)

3D is just going thru the same phase that both Color & Audio did. (color use to limit films in good filmmaking even more then 3D has)

I guess I'm the only person here who ever took Film Introduction in College (we only saw 2D movies, and only learned about 2D films anything).

@OdinHades

You are clearly playing your 3DS outdoors, wi direct enough sun exposure during gaming with the 3D ON.....just move a little to the left OR move a little to the right OR move your 3DS upwards OR go under a shade OR move to cast your own shadow over the 3D screen OR lower the depth slider to 50% to 40% volume of 3D (this last solution which i bolded, is the easiest to do, and you don't have to move at all by using the lower volume of 3D solution).

I mostly play my 3DS indoors, so NO ghost effects.

Problem solved.

The bold is happening.

And you forgot that its e filmakers who love 3D, which is the real reason so many movies are being done in 3D.

Not that many movies are being done in 3D for the premium prices which are going away later this year or during next year. (they are going to increase the cost of 2D movies, and decrease the cost of 3D movies, and the ticket prices will literally be the same, but I'm guessing IMAX will still screw people LOL)

The people who run studios are clearly fanboys of 3D (I'll even name some: Warner Bros. & Paramount & 20th Century Fox & Disney & Dreamworks), and it's these same people who wanted to reboot Superman in movies, and had the power to do so, so they did.

A minimum of most directors are currently big giant fanboys of 3D (for example: George Lucas & Steven Speilberg & Martin Scorsese & the director of Watchmen & Man of Steel & so way toooo many many more).

You should read what George Lucas said about 3D, instead of going out of your way to find one of the few directors that opposes 3D. (that was a pretty bias move you did, to find one of the few directors who says anything bad about 3D)

I saw Avatar with a group years ago in 3D. Was not impressed by film or the effect and never saw another 3D film again. The odd part is everyone I know agrees it is worse and would never pay more for it. Yet, every time a major release comes out it is in 3D as well. Someone out there likes it, but I have never met them.

Just go watch "The Great Gatsby" in 3D, and you will understand.

I guess at this point you will need to find someone with a 3D TV, and VuDu or a 3D Blu-Ray of the movie.

I agree with Kaizar.

You should all go out and buy a 3D-enabled PS3 and a 3DTV.

They have a cheap PS3 3D display to play PS3 games (display should be capatable with PS4 if Sony pays attention).....I think it's currently $199.99¢ (at least the last time I saw them at GameStop)

I would suggest a 3D TV that converts 2D into 3D, this way you can play all GameCube games in 3D, as well as all 7th Gen Home Console (PS3 & Wii & 360) games in 3D. And DS games can be played in 3D (probably need 3D PC with DS emulator).

PS2 games look like flat pieces of cardboard with space in between when you convert 2D into 3D...and I assume the same with the first Xbox.

@brendude13

If you were being sarcastic, you should know that text isn't the best form to detect (LOL).

Thankfully 3D seems to be on the decline. Cinema's in my area are showing more and more 2D sessions and less 3D. 3D TV's are on the increase, but that is only because the better TV's also support 3D, I doubt many are buying them for that. Both my TV's support 3D, neither of them will ever have a 3D movie played on them, in fact I ebay'ed the set of glasses that came with them to get some of the money back for that useless feature.

Ur right about not many people buy 3DTV for the 3D. A survey showed that was the 4th most wanted feature behind screen size, resolution and smart apps for people who purchased 3DTVs.
