Forums - Sony - Titanfall may come to PS4 after all

CGI-Quality said:

The list doesn't even have any of the PS3's most notable franchises, rendering it meaningless. Singstar games available in one territory, Japanese-only games, and compilations aren't the bulk of Sony's 7th gen strengths at all. They merely add to the quantity.

In regards to MAG, it didn't fail, no, but it's hardly worth pointing out when discussing sales.

Still can't get over it can you?

Someone said MAG sold poorly because it was online only. So I pointed out it sold better than most of Sony's PS3's releases. Even if you remove Japan only releases or comipilations, MAG is still closer to the top of the list than the bottom. You know its true.

Hence, that was an example of Sony's online only shooter being a more worthwhile endeavor than most games Sony has released on PS3. People are concerned how an online only game can perform. Well offline games flop quite often.

You're being defensive for no reason and you're completely missing the point.

I cant and thats my point, IMHO they have been mediocore at best. Its a combination of being online only and those games not being all that to begin with that  leads to just ok sales. THe only game tha seemed to be alright is that DUST game and thats online only so who knows how well its doing.

No, COD wouldnt have reached the heights it did without a strong SP campaign, lets be real here. COD didnt become big till COD4, so it took many entries for it become the juggernaut it is today, and people werent exactly playing the early CODs for strong MP component, they are NOW. BF has always been a PC game and it now has SP modes so that game is kinda moot here.

DOnt know about the lists im still waiting for all the games that sold better than MAG so we can have a real comparison.

That's exactly what we are saying, the games thrown up for comparison have been mostly pretty ho-hum games that wouldn't have sold great no matter what. DUST is free to play.

I didn't say CoD would have reached "the same heights", only that it still would have sold in the millions. Your reply says as such. CoD didn't become huge until CoD4, even though it had always had amazing SP campaigns.

The part of my reply about the list was not really directed at you unless you're the one who took the time for a rebuttal list. But you can just count the games on that list higher than MAG. I think there were only 24 or so. It's clearly outsold most other Sony games on PS3.

those amazing SP campaigns are one of the reasons its as popular as it is now, maybe not the main reason. You think COD would have been as popular had it ALWAYS been a MP affair? I somehow doubt that, NOW? sure they could take away SP and still do alright but its already been established.

Dust 514 is an amazing game, and features one of the best FPS experiences out there. However, it is not a casual shooter like COD and has a fairly steep learning curve as it relies on team oriented tactics rather than run and gun. On top of all that there is a depth that is unparalleled in any other shooter game FPS or otherwise. However, that depth is also a draw back for me as it can require a great deal of time investment on the user's end to improve, upgrade, and fine tune your character/s

For the record, nobody is anticipating Titanfall to acheive mega numbers like a CoD. Which is probably why MS was able to get it as an exclusive.

The game has story in the multiplayer, I'm curious to see how that works. But perhaps in future releases they will create some sort of traditional campaign.

Yeah seems strange that he saw the list and immediately assumed it was some sort of attack on Sony, or a testimony to the strength of their games or something. Someone made a comment about MAG's sales and you expanded on it in a factual, unbiased manner.

But it always had amazing campaigns and never put up anywhere near those numbers. I think MP is the biggest reason it puts up those numbers. SP and offline MP are two other big reasons. Again, no one said "as popular". Of course it's not going to put up 20+ million, or even 10+ million. But it can move a lot of units.

The word of mouth about how this is the next game from "the CoD guys" and the marketing machine MS will throw behind it, are going to ensure some massive sales. Not to mention the game just looks fantastic. Also, lets not forget that Call of Duty started out as a next gen console exclusive for MS on the 360, just like Titanfall will for Xbox One. And CoD3 was a great MP game, but did not do amazing numbers. It took a really phenomenal game hitting a market desperate for a killer FPS game and hitting it at just the right time for CoD to catch lightning in a bottle. It might not be realistic to expect any FPS franchise to ever put up "CoD numbers" ever again. But at the same time, Titanfall has the best chance of doing so. It doesn't have to dominate right from the start. CoD2 certainly didn't.

There's nothing to get over, Puggs (in fact, you quoted me). I got your point about MAG, but my quote to Allard didn't require any further input from you. :)

I quoted you because you were still pissing and moaning. Your comment showed you didn't get the point I was making with MAG.

Yeah, that's what I thought I was doing. But some Sony fans took offense to it.

Also, the part I bolded you nailed it right on the head. CGI-Quality said "Sony's biggest releases all did well above what MAG did. Thus, they have a very good track record on PS3."

That was never the argument.

I dont think amazing is a word i would use to describe their campaigns prior to COD4, really name a couple of oh crap moments from any of those prior games. I would argue that COD4's campaign was the reason word of mouth spread so much about that game in the first place. Soap, the nuke attack on the Marines, the compelling villians, being taken out of WW2 setting. People were and still talk about that campaign. Yes they stayed for the multiplayer. But the multiplayer of COD today isnt even the same as it was when it first came out. I dont work for Fringe division so i have no idea how well a COD game with just multiplayer from the get go woudl have done, but we can agree it wouldnt  have done anywhere near the numbers they put up now, especially if they were going to be charging full retail price and start out on consoles that were still iffy on the online thing.

They won GOTY awards before CoD4 based off campaign work. I would certainly use the word awesome to describe it. As for epic moments.. 2 that immediately come to mind are Crossing the Volga and Pointe de Huc. Two things I still remember years later. To be honest I don't even know what you're referring to with Soap, or compelling villians really. Just a matter of personal opinion I guess. COD campaigns suffer from Michael Bay syndrome to me lately. The only real epic moment I remember from CoD4 was All Ghillied Up. That was an epic mission worthy of standing next to some of the CoD 1/2 missions.

We have agreed a CoD without SP wouldn't have done as many numbers from the start. The discussion is how much a shooter like Titanfall can do without SP. It can most certainly outsell MAG. If the measure of success is "CoD numbers" then there's hardly a game out there that will pass.

You do realize it could be both? Because different people have different opinions.

Your kind of reasoning happens when you think emotionally
