I'm very disappointed. Super Mario 3D Land is by far the worst 3D Mario.

3D Land made a lot of sense on the 3DS, and I disagree it was fantastic. Not a console experience though.

What do you disagree with? I never said it wasn't fantastic. I just said it is by far the worst 3D Mario game.

Even when seen as a 3D Land follow up, that in itself is a disappointment; 3D Land was an excellent portable game, but that just doesn't cut it as a flagship console title.

Mario 64 and the Galaxy games are looked back on as some of gaming's greatest achievements; this looks utterly forgettable.

First of all, this game looks NOTHING like anything the Wii could handle. The game is of a considerably higher graphical quality. If you're talking about art style...well, what do you expect? This is how a Mario game looks. All of the One/PS4 games I saw at E3 just looked like shinier, smoother versions of what was possible on the previous consoles.

Technically, it is beyond the Wii, but it's also far behind fellow Wii U games. Mario Kart 8 loks far better.

Visually, Mario Galaxy still spanks 3D World overall though. Less plain colours, more interesting lighting and effects, more beautiful backdrops...

Not really. Even though I see it as another rather shameless attempt of making the 2D Mario audience gobble up 3D Mario, it looks like, for once, it's actually taking an approach that might work to some small degree. Obviously not because of the aesthetic style or the carnival-esque soundtrack, both of which seem to have been adopted from the NSMB games (you know, the bad aspects of NSMB), but because of the multiplayer aspect, the branching paths that already appear to be much more common than they were in the Galaxy games based on just the four demo levels we've seen, and (since this is a follow-up to 3D Land) the absence of a needless hub world. The cat suit looks nice, because it looks like the first regularly encountered power-up in 3D Mario (aside from Yoshi in Galaxy 2) that could actually be convenient for offensive purposes, instead of defensive ones and/or puzzle solving.

It does look fun, even though I dislike what they're trying to achieve with the game, and hadn't intended to buy a 3D Mario after Galaxy 2. It won't convince me to buy the system, but I might pick it up if something does.

I'd like to hear the explanation for this. The only game I've played that I feel is legitimately better on handheld is Animal Crossing because it uses real world time so accessibility is key.

1. The camera angle made a lot of sense on the 3DS. It really helped the platforming when the 3D was on. Many of the stages were just much better with 3D on and I think that's why it's been quite successful.

2. It's like 2D Mario on a 3D scale. The stages are quite short which imo suits handhelds as sometimes I just want to play 15-20 min at a time. On consoles most people like at least an hour's play. I'd rather it be a continouous, longer and more fulfilling on the Wii U. 3D Land was quite fun but shorter and quicker levels.

3. The levels are more linear with less space for freedom. Yes Galaxy was more linear than 64 and Sunshine ut it did it smartly. There was still room for a lot of exploration in Galaxy and the whole notion of jumping from planet to planet in itself is liberating. Also you can sway from the main mission to get other stars. 3D Land doesn't have that, it's quite straight forward, it's literally like 2D mario where the goal is to get to the flag.

Again for a handheld it suits it more but for a console it just feels much more restricted. I want to be amazed when I play a console game not just get through the levels quickly.

4. Also the name sucks. 3D World doesn't make sense, there's no 3D here. Mario as a brand is strong enough, they didn't need to use the "3D Land" brand and it shows they're going for something quite similar.

I don't think the game will suck at all, I just don't think that 5 years from now I'll still be thinking of 3D World the same way I think of Galaxy now. Maybe it will sell well, maybe it will be extremely fun but I know for a fact I won't be wowed or appreciate the effort as much as its Wii counterpart.

Also Galaxy had one of the best implimentations of the Wii Mote (very underrated). 3D Land won't do the same from what I've seen which is extremely disappointing. That is a bit off topic, but I liked the Galaxy features. It felt like the ultimate Wii game, and I really doubt 3D world would do the same.

I think you have to take in context that it's on the 3DS. I think it was the best 3D Mario game they can possibly make on it. That's my preference though. I genuinly wasn't hyped for the game but it blew my expectations.

Ppl have the right to be disapointed. Your argument is exactly like Nintendo announcing next year that the WiiU zelda is a spiritual successor of Four Sword and then saying ''ppl should'nt be disapointed, it's NOT a TP or OoT follow-up, it's your fault and that's what you get for expecting a TP successor and this game looks worthy of being a Four Sword successor so everything is fine''

I get it though.

I also rather had 'Mario Universe' now, and 3D World later. If they did the same to Zelda, I'd be similarly disappointed; disappointed in the fact that I had to wait longer for the game I really wanted, but made due with the offering of the day. Ignoring the fact that Four Swords s*cked of course .

Microsoft: Show exclusives

Nintendo: Show Exclusives

Sony: were not doing DRM and 100 dollar cheaper and barely show anything. *CHEER!!!!!*

....lol what?!

I think Okr summed it up pretty well. Nintendo fanbase is just hard to please. I mean lot of them don't like the new Donkey Kong game either and that is not based on a portable game. It could just be the internet though.

"Internet rules:

- Nintendo fans, always disappointed for no reason.
- Sony fans, always excited for no reason." okr

People don't hate DK they hate the fact that the top secret game Retro has been working on is DK. Retro pushed the gamecube to amazing heights. People were expecting to get their socks blown of with finally a true HD game from Retro hsowcasing what the WiiU can do.

Dude, i liked the game a lot. I just said it was the worst 3D Mario by far. Yet you 'disagree'? What do you consider the worst 3D Mario bro? I think 'Sunshine' is a much more memorable experience than '3D land' even though it is usually considered the weakest console 3D Mario game.

I was actually the opposite to you. I was so excited about it before release (probably more than any other game ever) and was kinda disappointed after I played it.
