Colossally disappointed.

Games like Mario 64 and Galaxy were bursting with creativity and set new sky-high standards for the industry.

This looks like a lazy, uninspired cash grab without a shred of ambition.

To go from Galaxy 2 to this seems like going from Resident Evil 4 to 5 or Starfox 64 to Starfox Adventures all over again.

Honestly since NSMB series has gotten a bit stale and released 4 games in 6 years, I think they are hoping the 3D series will take over as the next casual friendly Mario series. To me 3D Land/World seem more like the true successors to NSMB DS/Wii.

3D Land was great in my opinion and this one looks even better. I would have loved an open world Mario Universe but im happy with this game, and im sure a huge epic Mario is coming by 2015.

U have to remember there has always been a long stretch between open world Mario. The gap between 64 and Sunshine was 6 years, then another 5 until Galaxy, Galaxy 2 is the exception because it used the same engine and was primarily ideas the couldmt fit into the first one. That was 2010 so going by history 2015 is a safe bet for Mario Universe.

i am Extremely excited, the prospect of multiplayer 3D mario games is simply mindblowing to me, and playable Peach.
I love the art style, i never really found galaxy that amazing, the levels were to restrictive in my opinion so i don't understand why people are disappointed.
I can't wait for Q4 this year so many good nintendo games(Wind Waker HD, Pokemon X/Y, Sonic Lost World, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Zelda: ALBW and Mario 3D World)
Nintendo is going to empty my wallet this year, and i am excited about it.

As what I expect to be a Galaxy / main series 3D Mario replacement, extremely disappointed.

neutral i loved 3d land...on 3ds. Not sure that is something i would want on a home console, but then again i didnt want Galaxy3 either, we dont really need another one of those.

Well, I didn't set up my expectations to unreasonable levels regarding a new 3D Mario, so I'm very excited.

Mario 3D World was fantastic, and it shouldn't matter what platform it comes on to enjoy a game.

That said, I'm still holding out for a Galaxy-esque Mario game by the end of 2014.

Yes, it's going to be a while before we get a real 3D mario game.

I'd bet you it would be an even longer while before we get a real 2D Mario game : )

@Topic: I was happy to see a 3D Mario get the same treatment 2D Mario gets. And I was not surprised to see the disappointment flood the internet because of it. Crappy aesthetics, crappy music, with nostalgia thrown in. 

It was Nintendo's attempt to make 3D Mario a fun multiplayer experience, and it looks like it worked. I am somewhat disappointed that it looks like it reuses the 3DS engine, but I am more excited for it then I was for NSMBU, which I have yet to buy. I'm also a huge fan of SMB2USA so I'm really excited for the differences between characters.

That being said, I really hope an expansive single player 3D Mario is released sometime in the Wii U's life span.

Looking forward to it. Actually I can't wait for it to release.
