So I decided to run the FFXIV benchmark tonight. I got some curious results. Same score on all resolutions, wtf.

Spoiler!

Yeah, the 1440p-score should be around the double of the 4K-score:

Did you run it in borderless window or in exclusive fullscreen?

Fullscreen. I'm thinking it's that 6 year old i7 4790k that's holding my system back.

This was my score last year on my old 980ti btw.

Spoiler!

I don't think so. Why should the 1920x1080-score be much lower on your 3070 than on your 980Ti?

Are the fps capped to 60 for any reason? Check it with an fps-counter-overlay (Nvidia experience, MSI afterburner...)

Tuesday news, the sequel:

John Lin's beautiful physics sandbox gives me Minecraft vibes
https://www.pcgamer.com/john-lins-beautiful-physics-sandbox-gives-me-minecraft-vibes/
For about a year now, programmer John Lin has been quietly working away on his own, untitled voxel sandbox. Recently, Lin's work got some more attention on Reddit thanks to a feature by youtuber BlueDrake42, who uses Lin's own video material since there is no way to download and try the sandbox for yourself yet. What you get to see is a stunning forest in which you can count every individual blade of grass and leaf, softly moving in the wind, while raytraced… rays of sunshine peak through the canopy. The world isn't just there to be looked at—you can break off any piece, bend it, form it into something else or dig around at your leisure. Together with the simulated water Lin has been working on, his sandbox could serve both as a cool showcase for what's possible with voxels, and could simply be fun to explore. You know, the same way Minecraft isn't just about building things.

Tinkertown is a Terraria-style multiplayer sandbox coming to Early Access in December

If you can't get enough of exploring open, procedurally-generated worlds, you can look forward to German publisher-developer Headup Games' Tinkertown, which goes into Early Access on Steam next month. There are many different ways to play, as showcased by the new trailer, whether you want to explore different biomes and collect loot, do battle with large enemies, or simply build a nice village without being bothered by anyone. Additionally, Tinkertown works for up to three players in co-op or PvP.

Rune 2 lawsuit update: 'It makes complete sense' to ask for $100 million, a lawyer tells us
https://www.pcgamer.com/rune-2-lawsuit-update-it-makes-complete-sense-to-ask-for-dollar100-million-a-lawyer-tells-us/
In December 2019, Rune 2 publisher Ragnarok Game filed a lawsuit against Human Head Studios, alleging that it actively attempted to sabotage the game by very publicly abandoning it on launch day. In October 2020, it amended the suit to include Bethesda Softworks and ZeniMax, which effectively acquired and rebranded Human Head as Roundhouse Studios on the very same day that it announced its closure. Ragnarok is seeking at least $100 million in compensatory damages.

Powerslave, the 1996 Build Engine classic, is coming back in an 'Enhanced Edition'

Crusader Kings 3's 1.2 update lets you design your own monarch
https://www.pcgamer.com/crusader-kings-3s-12-update-lets-you-design-your-own-monarch/
The latest update for Crusader Kings 3 brings back an old favourite from CK2, the 'Ruler Designer'. This is not a tool to design strips of wood to measure stuff with, but a complete character creator, which lets you customise not only your emperor's visual appearance, but also their various traits, which is arguably the best thing about Crusader Kings—watching virtual human beings go completely off the rails due to their own peculiarities.

Ubisoft's first partner for this new initiative is AbleGamers, a US charity founded in 2004 to supply players with various disabilities with controllers and other assistive technology that suits their specific needs. AbleGamers also raises awareness of disabilities, for example by offering courses in Accessible Player Experience (APX) to developers around the world.

Playful stealth western El Hijo releases December 3
https://www.pcgamer.com/playful-stealth-western-el-hijo-releases-december-3/

Beckham is reportedly making £40 million from FIFA 21, while Ibrahimovic is livid about being in it
https://www.pcgamer.com/david-beckhams-reportedly-making-pound40-million-from-fifa-21-while-zlatan-ibrahimovic-is-livid-about-being-in-it/
The UK's Daily Mirror reports that David Beckham is being paid £40 million over three years to appear as an 'icon' in FIFA 21 and future games. A source told the paper that "FIFA makers EA Sports offered him £30million over three years but he managed to get a better deal. It is a big addition to the Beckham brand and the easiest money he’s ever made."
Can't imagine too many at EA Sports will be happy about that last line. More amusingly, these reports seem to have set off Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a man who is never knowingly undersold (Twitter bio: "Lions don't compare themselves to humans.")
>> Imagine what could happen if all the players asked EA for money? There would be no more Fifa games.

Hitman 3's engine will support over 300 active NPCs at once

Fortnite's subscription service goes live on December 2
https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnites-subscription-service-goes-live-on-december-2/
Earlier this month, Epic Games began asking Fortnite players if they'd be interested in paying a monthly subscription fee that would include access to content like the battle pass, cosmetics, and some bonus V-Bucks. We noted at the time that it was just a survey, something developers do quite often to get the lay of the land, and that the hypothetical subscription service might never actually come to pass.

Thanks for that. Turns out vsync was capping my frames during fullscreen, so I switched it off for the benchmark. Also thought that the 1080p score was especially odd.

Here are the accurate benchmark scores.

 3070

Spoiler!

980ti

Spoiler!

Seems about right. 3070 giving an over 100% performance boost at 4k when compared to the 980ti. Much smaller boost at lower resolutions, apparently due to a CPU bottleneck.

Glad to help.

By upgrading the CPU you should get the 1080p-score from 15k to 23k:

This is mostly why I hardly bother with midnight launches. The servers are always unstable and limited during those times.

I'll be picking up a copy for me and my gf tomorrow, along with some game time to boot. Then I can join up with my guild and we can finally start to plan out this month's expeditions.

This time I actually plan to fully finish my professions, because each expac I always reach halfway and give up on gathering mats, mostly because ppl are already farming them.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Yeah there are usually massive issues (TBC and WOLTK comes to mind) with logins, queues and server problems but this was really smooth launch.

Nice, enjoy. Only played a few hours with some friends and was quite fun doing new quests. Nicce you have a proactive guild. I just went and joined a casual one (though large) they don't raid or anything like that.

About professions same lol. It just takes too much money to buy mats when people are farming. Going to level up engineering on my main while leveling and max it out for the good stuff.
