The fuck? The creators of the games you mentioned could put up easily that fee. Again, ever heard of loans? We're not talking about a million dollars here. We're talking about money that's above teenage pranksters and way way below what actual developers spend to create a game.

In the context of building a game and selling it on the biggest storefront there is $1000 is nothing. It's only a barrier when you don't care to actually make a game, which is where all the trash comes from.

It would be fine if there was a program for developers to let Valve review their game beforehand and lower if not scratch the fee for them. But we're talking about Valve actually proactively doing something and that's just not physically possible. So "money barrier of entry" it is.

You're looking at it from the perspective of quantity of money, but you're forgetting the mental aspect of it, the moment of that guy that has made the game in his spare time and just for fun, thinking "will there be someone out there that will be interested in playing it... or even paying for it?". If you tell them just then that they'll have to pay $1,000 to put it on Steam... well, they could have second thoughts.

Either you want your game to be on the biggest storefront on PC or you don't. Every single developer who wants it will not see some measly $1000 that have a good chance of being refunded in total as any kind of monetary or mental barrier. If they don't think their game, that they worked on thousands of hours and have put all their passion and savings into, is not worth $1000 entry fee they shouldn't even be on the biggest storefront PC has to offer.

And if they do have a problem with that, there are other outlets that care about quality control and don't need a giant barrier of entry to keep out trash because they selectively choose what ends up there.

And yes, I find it ridiculous that we are trying to find a solution for a problem that would be instantly solved if Valve put some actual effort into their store.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

It's called having second thoughts, viv . Also, you can have all the faith of the world in your game, but that doesn't guarantee that it will have success.

And yes, if Valve decided to put the same effort they show in expanding the store into improving the store, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I totally agree. Small developers in the '80s and '90s would have killed to get on a platform with more than a hundred million potential customers for a mere $1000 fee.

Friday news, part two:

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 multiplayer update has new modes, maps, guns
http://www.pcgamer.com/sniper-ghost-warrior-3-multiplayer-update-has-new-modes-maps-and-guns/
After suffering frame rate and load time issues at launch, CI Games thereafter suggested Sniper Ghost Warrior 3's scale was "just too ambitious" for a team of its size. The developer has since supported the tactical shooter with a number of updates and DLC, though, and has now confirmed its multiplayer update will arrive on January 26, 2018.

Genghis Khan and the Mongolians are invading Civilization 6
http://www.pcgamer.com/genghis-khan-and-the-mongolians-are-invading-civilization-6/
In what you might call a study in contrasts, last's week announcement of the upcoming addition of the Netherlands to Civilization 6, led by the Mary Poppins-esque Queen Wilhelmina, has been followed up by word today that the rapacious Mongol horde is on the way too, headed up by the mighty Genghis Khan.

Blizzard says sorry for Hearthstone quest glitch with free Kobolds & Catacombs packs
http://www.pcgamer.com/blizzard-says-sorry-for-hearthstone-quest-glitch-with-free-kobolds-catacombs-packs/
Shortly after the Hearthstone expansion Kobolds & Catacombs went live, Blizzard discovered that the game wasn't behaving exactly as it should. Some players were experiencing delays in receiving new daily quests, because of the load placed on Blizzard's infrastructure by the apparently-unforeseen popularity of Dungeon Runs. It still hasn't been fully fixed, but Blizzard said today that a hotfix has "significantly reduced" wait times, and most players shouldn't notice any extra wait at all.

Wild West Online expands character creation suite
http://www.pcgamer.com/wild-west-online-teases-character-creation-suite/
So far, Wild West Online is more mild than wild, reckons our Chris—pointing out that while he did moderately enjoy his time with the in-development open world cowboy adventure, there isn't a whole lot to it as yet. Developer 612 Games has now expanded the game's character creation suite, which is also a work-in-progress.

GTA Online gets snowfall, a new 4x4 and a free muscle car
http://www.pcgamer.com/gta-online-gets-snowfall-a-new-4x4-and-a-free-muscle-car/
Snow is falling. All around. Stealing cars and shooting guns. It's the season of snow in Los Santos. Merry Christmas, GTA Online.
Okay, so that's not quite as catchy as Shakin' Stevens' esteemed Christmas banger, but GTA Online is nevertheless feeling the spirit with snowfall, a new vehicle fit for fighting the elements, and a complimentary Albany Hermes Muscle Car.

And that's all the news for this week. The next edition will be next Wednesday, after Christmas and San Esteban/Boxing Day (it's festive here in Catalonia), so let me wish you a happy and gaming weekend and also an excellent Christmas/Hanukkah/Holiday/Whatever you celebrate!

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

So, I've been trying to play Quake on PC, and being used to twin-stick controls in FPS games, I must say that I am having a bit of difficulty getting used to WASD and mouselook. Do you guys have good suggestions for me to adapt to the controls?

Yes, stop playing FPS with a controller

Honestly, I stopped buying those kinds of games on consoles because I can't stand using the right analog for aiming. Mouse is soooo superior.

As long as TimeSplitters 1-3 are console-exclusive, I don't think I can do that!

There are a few contests that include a keyboard among the products so, if you can wait a month or so, you could try to win one of them instead.

The chances of winning one is super slim though.

With that... Boxing Day (26th December) is not far away, so there will be lots of sales/deals, I'll wait until then.
