Your Steam client can now help load certain games a little more smoothly. The new shader pre-caching feature, which went into beta in November and now comes to all users via the latest stable client update, allows Steam to download pre-compiled shader code for OpenGL and Vulkan games. So instead of having your PC compile high level shader code into a version tuned for your GPU, Steam will snag it for you before you ever launch the game.

Back in October, we informed you about the termination of Revive; a mod that re-enabled multiplayer functionalities in a number of Battlefield games, including Battlefield 2142. Thankfully, a team of modders has figured out another way in order to restore multiplayer in Battlefield 2142.
Battlefield 2142 fans will have to download and install GameRanger. They’ll then have to create a Gameranger account, log in, find the Battlefield 2142 server in the list, and double-click it to join the pre-game chatroom.

Welcome to the terrifying and stressful period of time on the internet when a new Star Wars film is out and all you want to do is avoid spoilers until you see it. You have nothing to fear from me—I haven't seen it yet myself, and my only purpose right now is to show you this mod that will let a cute Jawa follow you around in Skyrim.
The mod carefully calls this fellow a Ja'wa (another mod by the creators at Haem Projects adds a BB-8 inspired droid called Snippy). In the original Star Wars movie, Jawas were the little dudes in brown robes who scavenged and resold old robots (most notably R2-D2 and C-3PO) to gruff dirt farmers and their whiny nephews. I daresay, in terms of short Star Wars creatures with indecipherable languages, Jawas are far more appealing than Ewoks.

Things are not looking good for Star Citizen and Squadron 42. Crytek has sued Cloud Imperium and Roberts Space Industries for violating their contract. According to the suit, Cloud Imperium was to develop only one game with CRYENGINE (Star Citizen) and not two (Star Citizen and Squadron 42). And while some may say that Squadron 42 is just the single-player mode of Star Citizen, the game is being sold as a standalone title, thus giving the impression of a second, separate game.

We got our first look at Trailmakers, a sandbox construction game that looks like Besiege but with cars and planes, at PAX West earlier this year. Today, developer Flashbulb Games announced Trailmakers will hit Steam Early Access on January 31, 2018, with a free open beta weekend planned for January 11 - 14. It will cost $20 at launch, and its Steam page says the price "will be reviewed" when the Early Access period ends.

I'm noticing a trend, readers: dinosaur park sims. Frontier has been drip-feeding us Jurassic World Evolution details for months, and just last month Parkasaurus was announced. Prehistoric Kingdom is the latest game to pick up this suddenly popular torch. It's currently on Kickstarter, with developer Shadow Raven Studios asking for $55,000. At the time of writing, its campaign has raised $24,000 and will run for another 22 days.
