Overclocking my CPU is a bit too risky for me. I know I have a dual BIOS but I recall that I already used the backup BIOS last time when I tried to overclock. Is the old BIOS reverting back immediately after you run the backup BIOS or do I have to do something to align them again?

I just need to find the option that drags CPU the most. When I set the graphics preset to high I got an easy 10-15fps more. Then I turned up some graphics again and it went back to the CPU limit. I could test it myself for every option but the problem is there are a lot of options and the game demands a restart for most of them.

Sounds very good! I played, and ejoyed, every Assassin's Creed game from 1 to Revelations, but then came AC 3... I couldn't finish it, and except for Black Flag (which I still have to play) I've stayed away from the series.

It looks like Origins could bring me back to the series.

I played the first game for a few hours... But could never really sink my teeth into the franchise despite multiple attempts. I'll likely get this game when it's in the bargain bin.

The second game is usually viewed as the best one, so you could try that one, if you can still find it in a bargain bin.

Most second BIOS chips are read-only. So once you screw up, it will boot from the second BIOS, reset things and boot from the main BIOS again.

You can reset your BIOS though if you screw things up, there is usually a jumper on the motherboard which will do it... Or you can take out the BIOS battery on the motherboard and disconnect your PC from the mains to give the BIOS a thorough reset.

Overclocking can always be reversed to a point. - Unless you overclock far to high and apply to much volts accellerating the effects of electromigration, rendering your chip a paper weight, only ever happened to me once 20 years ago though... But the motherboard was still good. :)

You could just increase your CPU's turbo speeds a good 400mhz, the extra clocks will then be available when you need it.
Turbo modes usually operate at higher voltages naturally, so are less likely to be prone to causing errors.

I have every game in the franchise, I did give the second one a fair whack but couldn't get into that either. Just not my kind of game I think.
I have always preferred a really good Sci-Fi to be honest... And Ass's creed is Sci-Fi wrapped in fantasy.

That's... err...

If you didn't like the first two games, why did you buy the rest?

He only said he has them...wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Kidding...but really strange if he doesn't like them.

But I kinda fell for Black Flag, though I only liked 1st one - ACII was way to easy for my liking, I never felt any danger, like in the first AC, so I barely finished it. I thought Black Flag might be good, but it was more my desire to play something even remotely similar to Sea Dogs and Age of Pirates then AC itself...it managed to keep me for some time, but eventually crappy arcade sailing and battles were too much for my taste.

I'll have to check some reviews and gameplay thoroughly before I decide what to do with ACO...it seems interesting, but I'm always catiuous with Ubi games.

That's a very sensible approach.

I don't remember if AC 2 was easier than the first one or not, but I do remember that the game world was much richer and there were more things to do, so I found it to be more entertaining.

I've yet to play Black Flag. I promised myself that I would finish AC 3 first, and I still haven't done it.

Yeah, combat was way easier than in first - I pretty much had the same problem with Hitman 2 back in days - you could power through a lot of things, unlike the first one.

And I liked the setting in AC1 much more - renaissance Italy does little for me....that's why I hope they revisit Rome during the Empire.

For me, the advantage of the first game over the second was that deserts between the cities, which gave it something else to explore. But the added verticality and ability to swim of the second one (a weird omission on the first one) more than made it up for me.

And I agree that there are a lot of eras or periods that would have been great for an AC game like the ancient Rome as you said (Caesar's murder?), or the Russian revolution.

I am a collector of course. And what kind of collection would it be if there was a franchise with such renown that was not present? ;)
