It's why it should be classed as gambling.
15 grand on Ass Effect Multiplayer Cards is ridiculous.

That's an extreme example, and shouldn't be taken out of context.

The thing is that "we" (gamers in general) also have part of the guilt for this. Had we said no to that Oblivion horse armor, haven't bought the Team Fortress 2 hats or skipped Overwatch's loot crates, we wouldn't be in this situation.

Actions speak louder than words, specially when only a minory on the internet claim against those things, and so far publishers have only seen the equivalent of a green light from "us".

Hey hey hey! Don't lump me in with those schmucks. :P
I did say "no" to Horse Armor. I didn't buy hats for Team Fortress 2. And I ignored Overwatch's loot crates. (And was vocal against them. :P)

But you are right, money talks.

Well, I'm kinda finished with ELEX. The main story with all the side quests is done after around 40h, which is terribly short. There is content after the end and still stuff to explore which will probably add another 10h.

Final verdict: It's not Gothic 3. Everything feels small and short despite a world that is about as big as Gothic 3 by sheer size. Along with the usual issues in PB games you get a handful of stuff that are weird omissions that were present in Gothic. Overall it's a clear step back from Gothic 3 and about on the level of Gothic 2. They should've taken another year on this to make something out of this waste of potential.

And so the wait begins for the next game if they don't shut down after this.

On lighter news, I started playing South Park. This might be a bit worse than the first one but we'll see. It controls horribly with mouse and keyboard. My DS4 does not work with it if I don't explicitly turn on DS4 compatibility in Steam.

Maybe they'll add more content with future DLCs?

There won't be any DLC and DLC won't fix the problem anyway.

Well, you said last week that there weren't enough caves to explore. Maybe they could launch a "subterranean DLC" with lots of caves and underground places to explore.

I mean, if the main problem of the game is content, they could try to add more of that with additional content.

Slightly off-topic, but it's weird to talk with Pemalite about how damaging some DLCs, microtansactions and loot boxes are, and then talk with you, viv, about waiting for DLC to improve a game. I feel, and rightfully so, like an hypocrite.

DLC is fine. The problem is how it's implemented today and how it is going to be even worse. If we just look at Warner's patent, it's disgusting but that is just the start. And people actually try to defend that shit.

There are people that defend impossible things, even when that goes against their interests. I remember during the last gen of consoles, how some greedy publishers compared the second hand market with piracy, and how some users here totally agreed and used that fallacy over and over again.

Anyway, there's a spanish saying, "Cada minuto nace un tonto", which would be something like "Every minute a fool is born", and that is clearly visible in cases like these.

Skyrim Special Edition celebrates its first birthday this week, which seems as good a time as any to revisit its host of neat player-made mods. In search of something new, I happened upon L3st4t's Every Tree Different—a passion project that inserts real life photography of Finnish forests into the fifth Elder Scrolls.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus does not feature any multiplayer because it would dilute it all
http://www.dsogaming.com/news/wolfenstein-ii-new-colossus-not-feature-multiplayer-dilute/
Like it or not, Bethesda may be the only big publisher that is currently supporting single-player games. Dishonored 2, PREY, The Evil Within 2 and now Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus are single-player experiences only. Wolfenstein 2 releases in a few days and according to MachineGames’ Tommy Tordsson Björk, a multiplayer mode would definitely jeopardise the quality of its single-player mode.

Tuesday news, part two:

Celebrate the best PC games you're still playing in the Golden Joysticks
http://www.pcgamer.com/celebrate-the-best-pc-games-youre-still-playing-in-the-golden-joysticks/
At this year's Golden Joystick Awards presented with OMEN by HP, we're not just celebrating the best games of the last 12 months. We'll also be spotlighting those enduring classics that we return to again and again. We did this for a few reasons—for many people, these are still the games that they play the most, whether it's an MMO, a long-running sports series, a multiplayer shooter or an endless journey for more loot.

>>deskpro2k3 has made a thread about the Golden Joystick Awards.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is not getting single player DLC
http://www.pcgamer.com/grand-theft-auto-5-is-not-getting-single-player-dlc/
In December 2013, Rockstar appeared confident Grand Theft Auto 5 would receive single player DLC in the new year. Now, almost four years on, the developer has all but confirmed GTA 5's future updates will be exclusive to GTA Online.

Destiny 2 PC DLC, patches and updates will arrive 'day and date' with console
http://www.pcgamer.com/destiny-2-pc-dlc-patches-and-updates-will-arrive-day-and-date-with-console/
Bungie will give everyone a week to get "raid ready" before releasing the raid. Once that's out, the plan is for the PC and console versions of Destiny 2 to run absolutely in sync.

>>That's ok, but...

Destiny 2 PC and console builds could diverge 'if we need to' says Bungie
http://www.pcgamer.com/destiny-2-pc-and-console-builds-could-diverge-if-we-need-to-says-bungie/
Destiny 2 is finally coming to PC tomorrow, and development partners Bungie and Vicarious Visions are keen to stay flexible in the face of the new audience. The teams have built tools that will allow them to tune PC and console builds differently should the need arise.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 campaign is '5-7 hours' long
http://www.pcgamer.com/star-wars-battlefront-2-campaign-is-5-7-hours-long/
Electronic Arts is putting a good chunk of effort into promoting the campaign side of Star Wars Battlefront 2. The tale of Inferno Squad's retaliation against the Rebellion for blowing up Death Star 2.0 and snuffing the Emperor, set up in the recently-released single-player trailer, looks very promising. Just don't expect it to last very long.

>>And given EA's last week actions, they may even think that we should thank them for a single player campaign, even if it's that short. But hey, it's not like the guys at DICE are known for their single player games, right?

Watch lots of people get slo-mo murdered in the Assassin's Creed: Origins launch trailer
http://www.pcgamer.com/watch-lots-of-people-get-slo-mo-murdered-in-the-assassins-creed-origins-launch-trailer/
Assassin's Creed: Origins, the game with the $60,000 headphones (and by the way, I still haven't received a reply to my inquiry about getting a review set), comes out on October 27, which is just four days away. What the game is all about has already been pretty well established, and the title is a pretty big spoiler in that regard too. But maybe you need a quick catch-up, or maybe you just want to spend a couple of minutes watching a guy cinematically disembowel a bunch of other guys. Either way, the launch trailer is here to help.

Battleborn bids farewell with its final update
http://www.pcgamer.com/battleborn-bids-farewell-with-its-final-update/
Pity poor Battleborn, a good game that did some interesting things with the hero shooter genre, that got stomped into the ground for its troubles. Gearbox hung in with it for as long as it could, but not even the move to free-to-play was enough to save it. The studio announced last month that development would be halted following the release of the fall update, an unhappy event that took place just ahead of the weekend.

Blizzard is giving away Hearthstone card packs to mark the launch of Battle.net gifting
http://www.pcgamer.com/blizzard-is-giving-everyone-a-hearthstone-card-pack-to-mark-the-launch-of-battlenet-gifting/
The new Battle.net social features, which were announced earlier this month, including Blizzard Groups, user profiles and avatar, and the ability to appear offline, are now live. Along with all that handy goodness is a feature we haven't heard about previously, "Gifting," which enables players to purchase and send in-game goodies to their friends. To encourage people to give it a look, Blizzard is giving out free a Hearthstone Classic card pack to everyone who logs into the new Gifts page prior to December 31.

The Escapists 2 drops Wicked Ward DLC in time for Halloween
http://www.pcgamer.com/the-escapists-2-drops-wicked-ward-dlc-in-time-for-halloween/
The first Escapists game was no stranger to crossovers—having partnered officially with The Walking Dead, and unofficially with James Bond, A-Team and Escape from Alcatraz by way of similarly-themed spin-offs. The Escapists 2 landed in August and has now dropped its second themed DLC, this one focused on Halloween.

Second hand has the exact same effect as piracy. The only difference is that one of them is socially excepted.
