King of the Hat is a fighting game where you die if someone steps on your hat
http://www.pcgamer.com/king-of-the-hats-is-a-fighting-game-where-you-die-if-someone-steps-on-your-hat/
Hats have earned kind of a dodgy reputation in the realm of videogames. Sure, a classy chapeau can have you looking good when you're out for a night on the town, but does there really need to be so many of them in our digital diversions? But King of the Hat isn't like that. In this game, you get just one hat, and if something happens to it, well, you die.

Turn-based roguelike Deep Sky Derelicts channels Darkest Dungeon in space
http://www.pcgamer.com/turn-based-roguelike-deep-sky-derelicts-channels-darkest-dungeon-in-space/
I always struggle to come up with comparisons that don't overshadow new games and are also useful for readers. Thankfully, developer Snowhound games has done the legwork for me with Deep Sky Derelicts, which they describe as "a mix of Darkest Dungeon and XCOM with a pinch of Hearthstone and FTL: Faster Than Light added on top." It's coming to Steam Early Access next month, and it's definitely one to keep an eye on.

Unruly Heroes is a stunning 2D action game from former Ubisoft veterans
http://www.pcgamer.com/unruly-heroes-is-a-stunning-2d-action-game-from-former-ubisoft-veterans/
Unruly Heroes is irresponsibly beautiful. It's a 2D action game from French developer Magic Design Studios, which is largely staffed by former Ubisoft veterans. Members of the core team previously worked on the Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed and Rayman series, and you can really see that DNA in Unruly Heroes' early trailers. More importantly, you can also see its positively breathtaking art.

Card game Duelyst adding new Generals and 100+ other cards
http://www.pcgamer.com/card-game-duelyst-adding-new-generals-and-100-other-cards/
Duelyst is a damned good card game. In fact, there's an argument for it being better than Hearthstone, the behemoth that helped inspire it. Since its release last year developer Counterplay Games has dealt regular expansions to players, and next month's one is a biggie. It's adding 100+ cards, but perhaps more importantly there's a new crop of Generals, cards that are at the core of every deck.

Well, the development team plans to ramp up the damage that the blue zone deals to try and get players to focus on combat inside the play area, it announced yesterday.

Competitive horror game Hide and Shriek is free this Halloween
http://www.pcgamer.com/competitive-horror-game-hide-and-shriek-is-free-this-halloween/
Horror games often feel like one-on-one experiences, whether you're hiding from a specific Baker in Resident Evil 7 or the titular serpent in Alien: Isolation. Multiplayer horror game Hide and Shriek takes this idea a little more literally: it's PvP horror where your goal is to out-scare your opponent in a 10-minute match. Oh, and find them, because you're both invisible. It's like somebody played Screencheat and thought, "you know, this could just more jump scares," and it's now free to try.

Pawarumi is bringing a new kind of shoot-'em-up to Steam
http://www.pcgamer.com/pawarumi-is-bringing-a-new-kind-of-shoot-em-up-to-steam/
Generally, people play shoot-'em-ups for their fluid controls, their flashy visuals, maybe their music and sound design. It's not often that the setting and story of a shoot-'em-up are enough to warrant a second glance, but here we are. According to five-man developer Manufacture 43, Pawarumi is "a modern shoot-'em-up set in a retro futuristic sci-fi pre-Columbian universe," and it's coming to Steam Early Access this Monday, October 23.

EA 'pushing for more open-world games [because] you can monetise them better,' says ex-Bioware dev
http://www.pcgamer.com/ea-pushing-for-more-open-world-games-because-you-can-monetise-them-better-says-ex-bioware-dev/
Mass Effect: Andromeda wasn't our favourite of the sci-fi series, and poor sales led to both Bioware Montreal being merged with EA Motive and the game's single player support being dropped earlier this year. Ex-Bioware developer Manveer Heir reckons scope for monetisation lies at the heart of the latter.

Not just GPU's. But CPU's as well.

The i7 3770 is far above the FX 8350 to the tune of 50-90% more performance depending on game/load.
A first gen i7 like the Nahelem i7 940 would be a better equivalent to the FX 8350, neither are substantual increases over a heavily overclocked Core 2 Quad.

Having higher specs in general though is okay in my eyes. We do generally get better visuals and framerates than other lesser (from a hardware perspective) platforms, that's not usually free.

I mean... If we looked at Doom on PS4... It is not always 1080P and 60fps 100% of the time, it is even more depressing on the Xbox One... Neither device is using max graphics either.

Essentially we should expect similar results in visuals/performance/hardware as Doom on PC vs Consoles with Wolfenstein PC vs Consoles.

Sure, PC gets better visuals, but that's what recommended requirememnts are for - when dev reveals minimum system requirements, that's exactly what they should be - game running on lowest settings at something like 720p.

But regardless of that, I hate seeing wild difference between Intel/AMD and nVidia/AMD requirements - I honestly wonder sometimes if big devs even test on anything else but Intel/nVidia rigs.

Well, I'm kinda finished with ELEX. The main story with all the side quests is done after around 40h, which is terribly short. There is content after the end and still stuff to explore which will probably add another 10h.

Final verdict: It's not Gothic 3. Everything feels small and short despite a world that is about as big as Gothic 3 by sheer size. Along with the usual issues in PB games you get a handful of stuff that are weird omissions that were present in Gothic. Overall it's a clear step back from Gothic 3 and about on the level of Gothic 2. They should've taken another year on this to make something out of this waste of potential.

And so the wait begins for the next game if they don't shut down after this.

On lighter news, I started playing South Park. This might be a bit worse than the first one but we'll see. It controls horribly with mouse and keyboard. My DS4 does not work with it if I don't explicitly turn on DS4 compatibility in Steam.

That's an extreme example, and shouldn't be taken out of context.

The thing is that "we" (gamers in general) also have part of the guilt for this. Had we said no to that Oblivion horse armor, haven't bought the Team Fortress 2 hats or skipped Overwatch's loot crates, we wouldn't be in this situation.

Actions speak louder than words, specially when only a minory on the internet claim against those things, and so far publishers have only seen the equivalent of a green light from "us".

Well, that kinda sucks - though I personally think that Gothic 2 is better game then Gothic 3 (with 1st being the best).

Honestly, they always lack resources and I'm really wondering why don't they just do remake/reimaging of Gothics - outside of us PC folks, nobody played them and given they are (along with TES) grandaddies of modern open-world action RPGs, which are quite popular, they would get additional funds for making proper Gothic 4.
