King of the Hat is a fighting game where you die if someone steps on your hat
http://www.pcgamer.com/king-of-the-hats-is-a-fighting-game-where-you-die-if-someone-steps-on-your-hat/
Hats have earned kind of a dodgy reputation in the realm of videogames. Sure, a classy chapeau can have you looking good when you're out for a night on the town, but does there really need to be so many of them in our digital diversions? But King of the Hat isn't like that. In this game, you get just one hat, and if something happens to it, well, you die.

http://www.pcgamer.com/visual-novel-maker-is-coming-to-steam-on-november-16/
RPG Maker dev Degica has announced the release date for its latest game-making tool, Visual Novel Maker. It’s close, too. The tool will launch on Steam on November 16, only a few weeks away. Time to start thinking about that magical murder mystery set in a Japanese High School that I’ve always wanted to make.

http://www.pcgamer.com/battle-royale-survival-game-the-darwin-project-begins-alpha-testing-next-month/
The battle royale survival game show The Darwin Project was revealed in June at E3 with a trailer that was half-cinematic and half-gameplay. It's been kept well under wraps since then, but the first closed alpha weekend is coming in November and while most of us won't be able to play it, it will give us our first proper look at real, unedited gameplay.

Turn-based roguelike Deep Sky Derelicts channels Darkest Dungeon in space
http://www.pcgamer.com/turn-based-roguelike-deep-sky-derelicts-channels-darkest-dungeon-in-space/
I always struggle to come up with comparisons that don't overshadow new games and are also useful for readers. Thankfully, developer Snowhound games has done the legwork for me with Deep Sky Derelicts, which they describe as "a mix of Darkest Dungeon and XCOM with a pinch of Hearthstone and FTL: Faster Than Light added on top." It's coming to Steam Early Access next month, and it's definitely one to keep an eye on.

http://www.pcgamer.com/northgard-update-adds-thor-worship-tiles-and-a-new-trading-faction/
When T.J. tried it out Early Access RTS Northgard in February he enjoyed the Viking theme and the Age of Empires-style combat—and the game has come a long way since then. Developer Shiro Games has pushed out regular updates, the latest of which adds a new faction to the game called the Kobolds, as well as fresh resource tiles and a mystical hawk that will scout the map for you.

Unruly Heroes is a stunning 2D action game from former Ubisoft veterans
http://www.pcgamer.com/unruly-heroes-is-a-stunning-2d-action-game-from-former-ubisoft-veterans/
Unruly Heroes is irresponsibly beautiful. It's a 2D action game from French developer Magic Design Studios, which is largely staffed by former Ubisoft veterans. Members of the core team previously worked on the Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed and Rayman series, and you can really see that DNA in Unruly Heroes' early trailers. More importantly, you can also see its positively breathtaking art.

Try the demo for promising 2D brawler Flynn: Son of Crimson
http://www.pcgamer.com/try-the-demo-for-promising-2d-brawler-flynn-son-of-crimson/
The dynamic combat and beautiful sprites of Flynn: Son of Crimson convinced us to feature it in our Indie GIF Showcase, and judging from Flynn's now-successful Kickstarter campaign, have caught the attention of a few others as well. So it's fortunate that players can now sample Flynn for themselves by way of the free demo available via Itch.io.

Card game Duelyst adding new Generals and 100+ other cards
http://www.pcgamer.com/card-game-duelyst-adding-new-generals-and-100-other-cards/
Duelyst is a damned good card game. In fact, there's an argument for it being better than Hearthstone, the behemoth that helped inspire it. Since its release last year developer Counterplay Games has dealt regular expansions to players, and next month's one is a biggie. It's adding 100+ cards, but perhaps more importantly there's a new crop of Generals, cards that are at the core of every deck.

Build your own rave in Party Hard Tycoon

Party Hard was a tongue-in-cheek murder sim in which you killed night club revelers for disturbing your sleep, and now the dancing shoe is on the other foot. Party Hard Tycoon, set in the same universe, lets you own and manage a nightclub, design the best raves, and rake it in from drunk punters.

PUBG will test a deadlier blue zone next week
http://www.pcgamer.com/pubgs-blue-zone-is-about-to-become-more-deadly/
One of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' defining features is its ever-tightening play area. Anyone caught outside of that area is said to be in the blue zone, and gradually takes damage over time. Well, the development team plans to ramp up the damage that the blue zone deals to try and get players to focus on combat inside the play area, it announced yesterday.

Competitive horror game Hide and Shriek is free this Halloween
http://www.pcgamer.com/competitive-horror-game-hide-and-shriek-is-free-this-halloween/
Horror games often feel like one-on-one experiences, whether you're hiding from a specific Baker in Resident Evil 7 or the titular serpent in Alien: Isolation. Multiplayer horror game Hide and Shriek takes this idea a little more literally: it's PvP horror where your goal is to out-scare your opponent in a 10-minute match. Oh, and find them, because you're both invisible. It's like somebody played Screencheat and thought, "you know, this could just more jump scares," and it's now free to try.

Pawarumi is bringing a new kind of shoot-'em-up to Steam
http://www.pcgamer.com/pawarumi-is-bringing-a-new-kind-of-shoot-em-up-to-steam/
Generally, people play shoot-'em-ups for their fluid controls, their flashy visuals, maybe their music and sound design. It's not often that the setting and story of a shoot-'em-up are enough to warrant a second glance, but here we are. According to five-man developer Manufacture 43, Pawarumi is "a modern shoot-'em-up set in a retro futuristic sci-fi pre-Columbian universe," and it's coming to Steam Early Access this Monday, October 23.

EA 'pushing for more open-world games [because] you can monetise them better,' says ex-Bioware dev
http://www.pcgamer.com/ea-pushing-for-more-open-world-games-because-you-can-monetise-them-better-says-ex-bioware-dev/
Mass Effect: Andromeda wasn't our favourite of the sci-fi series, and poor sales led to both Bioware Montreal being merged with EA Motive and the game's single player support being dropped earlier this year. Ex-Bioware developer Manveer Heir reckons scope for monetisation lies at the heart of the latter.

>>The best part is when he says: "I've seen people literally spend $15,000 on Mass Effect multiplayer cards".
