I was amazed years ago when I upgraded from a crappy 6-bit Twisted-Nematic Panel to an 8-bit In-Pane-Switching panel. And now we are heading towards 12-bit panels.

12-bit per color (R, G, B), so 36-bit color depth in total... baby steps.

John Carmack wanted 64-bit color depth 17 years ago: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/carmack-looks-to-64-bit-future/1100-2565599/

I'm aware of the differences. ;)

I remember that statement Carmack made years ago, I was a PC gamer back then.

8-bit panels only display 16.7 million colours, 10-bit panels, 1.07 billion... There are of course "tricks" that monitors employ to artificially boost that as well, such as Look-Up Tables, still not as good as the real things though.

12-bit is a whopping 68.71 Billion colours. I can't wait.

Fck me, 2000$ for that new 4k monitor?!! I could get a 55 oled tv with that price.

Yeah and it would fucking suck for gaming since you can make a complete breakfast between input and rendering.

mp games are not the only thing you could play on pc

AMD allowed Linus, from LinusTechTips, to show the internals of the PC that was running the Doom demo at CES, showing the mobo with Ryzen (cooled by a Wraith cooler) and an engineering VEGA card:

Also, if you have 40 minutes, here's a PCWorld interview with Raja Koduri: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwcUMZLvjYw, but if you don't have that much time, videocardz has posted a quick recap/summary of the questions and answers: http://videocardz.com/65531/pcworld-interviews-raja-koduri-about-vega

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I remember seeing demos of transparent TVs that allowed you to see thruough them and also vending machines with a transparent front door to see what's inside, both things happened years ago, and none of them have actually become real products.

I expect the same fate with that PC case.

Meanwhile, if you feel like gambing, wanna try your luck?

One has to start to wonder - when will the push to increase screen resolution end up the same way the push to increase megapixels on cameras did? Surely 8k on a 32" screen has to be pushing the realms of what could ever possibly be noticeable to the human eye at realistic viewing distances?

Well, the Asus (and Acer) G-Sync monitor revealed at CES is 4K at 27", also a very high ppi.

The thing is that we're talking about PC monitors, there's a point where you can't make them bigger without losing practicality.

To me, that point is 27" (or 34" Ultrawide monitors).

Eh, that 8K monitor has a 275 PPI, that is quite a bit more than the 163 PPI of those 4K monitors.

I can't believe someone let Linus near that Laptop at CES .

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

http://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/tom-clancys-ghost-recon-wildlands-new-live-action-trailer-shows-cute-little-cat/
Ubisoft has released a new live action trailer for its new upcoming open-world title, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. This trailer features a cat… and we all love cats. It also features a sniper but… forget the sniper. Or the cartel. Or anything else. It’s all about the cat.

GHOST RECON WILDLANDS GAMEPLAY VIDEO SHOWS SKYDIVING EXTRACTION MISSION
http://www.pcgamer.com/ghost-recon-wildlands-gameplay-video-shows-skydiving-extraction-mission/
Skydiving into an enemy fortification may be the most impressive way to extract a target, but is it the quietest? Is it even the best way? As this new Ghost Recon Wildlands video demonstrates, it's probably the most violent. In what appears to be a co-operative mission, two separate players take out some guards before a third leaps from a helicopter and smashes through the ceiling of a warehouse.

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/half-life-3-was-a-hot-mess-had-lots-of-prototypes-including-an-rts-and-an-adventure-action-game/
It’s almost a given by now that we won’t be getting Half-Life 3… ever. Still, this doesn’t mean that Valve wasn’t working on such a game. According to GameInformer’s Andrew Reiner, Half-Life 3 was a hot mess and had a lot of prototypes from very small teams.

STARDEW VALLEY MADE WAY MORE MONEY THAN CALL OF DUTY ON STEAM, AND OTHER 2016 SALES INSIGHTS
http://www.pcgamer.com/stardew-valley-made-way-more-money-than-call-of-duty-on-steam-and-other-2016-sales-insights/
Steam sales soothsayer Sergey Galyonkin, otherwise known as the creator of Steam Spy, has released a report on sales of games on Steam in 2016. Alongside Valve's own official ranking of the best-selling PC games of 2016, Galyonkin's graphs and figures provide a more granular picture of how the estimated sales of specific games might compare to one another. It also reinforces something we already knew: 2016 was an insane year for strategy games.

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/deus-ex-mankind-divided-pre-order-dlcs-are-now-available-for-free/
Now here is a nice surprise. Similarly to a lot of publishers, Square Enix had announced some exclusive pre-order DLC packs for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Contrary to most of them, however, Square Enix has just made available for free to all owners of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided all these pre-order DLCs.

EPIC GAMES ON WHY IT FAVOURED CONSOLES OVER PCS IN THE PAST, AND THE CURRENT BATTLE BETWEEN PC VS CONSOLES
http://www.dsogaming.com/news/epic-games-on-why-it-favoured-consoles-over-pcs-in-the-past-and-the-current-battle-between-pc-vs-consoles/
It’s no secret that for a time, Epic Games was focused on console gaming. While its roots were in PC gaming, the company felt the need to focus on consoles for almost six years in order to survive. And according to Tim Sweeney, that was a wise decision as before Steam, PC game revenue started falling off a cliff.

FOR HONOR GAMEPLAY TRAILER SHOWCASES LARGE MEN GETTING MEDIEVAL
http://www.pcgamer.com/for-honor-gameplay-trailer-showcases-large-men-getting-medieval/
Ubisoft has turned loose a new For Honor gameplay trailer that showcases the fighting styles of the three warriors unveiled in December: The massive Shugoki, the nearly-as-massive Warlord, and the not-at-all-massive Peacekeeper. Game director Roman Campos-Oriola also talks a bit about the no-respawn Elimination Mode that we got our hands on a few weeks ago.

OVERWATCH DIRECTOR WARNS OF "AGGRESSIVE" ACTION AGAINST ICE WALL EXPLOITERS
http://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-director-warns-of-aggressive-action-against-ice-wall-exploiters/
For several weeks now, unscrupulous Overwatch players have been able to take advantage of a glitch in Mei's Ice Wall that puts her into normally-inaccessible areas of the game, from where she can attack but not be damaged. Naturally, that's a real game-breaker, yet Blizzard has had real trouble tracking down the problem. There is a fix in the works, however, and it may even be rolled out today—and in the meantime, game director Jeff Kaplan warned that players who take advantage of the exploit will be punished.

BLOODSTAINED: RITUAL OF THE NIGHT VIDEO SHOWS OFF CREEPY VILLAGE LEVEL
http://www.pcgamer.com/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night-video-shows-off-creepy-village-level/
For a Kickstarter project which wanted $500,000 but ended up attracting well over 5 million, it's fair to say that people are excited about Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Which means, when Koji Igarashi (he of Castlevania fame) releases a very short video showing off a fraction of a level, people are going to want to see it.

This year's event also features a brand-new category, Best VR/AR Game, with Superhot VR and Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives among the games vying for the title.

CONAN EXILES DEV DIARY SHOWCASES ITS 'FREEFORM' BUILDING AND CRAFTING SYSTEM
http://www.pcgamer.com/conan-exiles-dev-diary-showcases-its-freeform-building-and-crafting-system/
Last month, Funcom detailed incoming survival adventure Conan Exiles' survival mechanics—a list which included crafting weapons, hunting animals, and enslaving Thralls. The latest developer diary focuses on how you'll build your own villages and cities, how you'll customise them, and, crucially, how you'll defend them.

DREAMFALL CHAPTERS "FINAL CUT" UPDATE IS COMING IN MARCH
http://www.pcgamer.com/dreamfall-chapters-final-cut-update-is-coming-in-march/
Red Thread Games has announced in a Kickstarter update that Dreamfall Chapters, the five-part episodic sequel to The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in March. This is of interest to us because coinciding with that, the studio will also put out an updated "Final Cut" edition of the game for the PC.

STYLISH, FAST-PACED PLATFORMER STANDBY IS OUT NOW
http://www.pcgamer.com/stylish-fast-paced-platformer-standby-is-out-now/
Joe rightly picked out Standby as being worthy of your attention back in September of last year. It's a fast-paced, speedrunning platformer where you have to run, jump, dash, slam and shoot your way through a series of minimalist, abstract stages, and it's from the developer behind the similarly brisk Barrier X. (As a side note, Barrier X is currently free on Steam.)

RHYMING ADVENTURE GAME MILKMAID OF THE MILKY WAY OUT NOW
http://www.pcgamer.com/milkmaid-of-the-milky-may-a-rhyming-adventure-game-is-out-now/
I learn from NeoGAF of a handsome adventure game named Milkmaid of the Milky Way, and whadda ya know, that adventure game released on Steam a few days ago. Sporting lovely pixel art, a novel premise, and a rhyming script, Milkmaid is an old-fashioned point-and-click made in Norway, and partly set in Norway, that also takes its daydreaming heroine into outer space.

PLAY A CROW RUNNING A HOTEL IN CROWTEL RENOVATIONS
http://www.pcgamer.com/play-a-crow-running-a-hotel-in-crowtel-renovations/
Crowtel Renovations is basically Fawlty Towers but starring a bird. It's Poultry Towers, in that it puts you in the role of a crow who is also a hotel manager. When the health inspectors show up, you have to toddle off and tidy up your dwelling place, while checking in on your most disruptive residents. There are nine floors full of hazards and colourful characters here, as you "attempt to fix up this trashy vacation spot and save a little crow's job".

VR-EXCLUSIVE JOB SIMULATOR HAS MADE $3 MILLION IN SALES
http://www.pcgamer.com/vr-exclusive-job-simulator-has-made-3-million-in-sales/
Towards the end of last year, both Dean Hall and Joe Radak—game developers who've both worked on virtual reality-exclusive games—wrote at length about the difficulties of turning a profit in VR development. Both explored issues pertaining to exclusivity deals, player expectation, relative market pricing, and internal budgeting, among other things—the sum of which painted a pretty bleak picture for the medium and its future.
Job Simulator developer Owlchemy has however announced its VR-exclusive game has accrued $3 million in sales to date; something it chalks up to the quality of its work. "Even in these early days of VR, if you build a quality piece of content, there’s potential for a large audience and solid sales," so reads a press release.

GOG LAUNCHES NEW WEEKLY SALE FORMAT IN A BID TO REVISIT THE CLASSICS
http://www.pcgamer.com/gog-launches-new-weekly-sale-format-in-a-bid-to-revisit-the-classics/
Beyond its seasonally themed sales, digital distribution platform GOG has changed the way it handles its weekly discount periods. Gone are its loosely-linked 'Staff Picks' and 'Grand Weekly Promos' and in their place are Weekly Sales: sales which collect classics, both old and new, and last for just seven days at a time.

>>And these are the games in this week's collection.
