Does any of you have (recent) experience with Razer mice?

My current mouse has started to miss clicks and I'm honestly tired of replacing them every couple of years or so. I'm at a point where I don't knwo if it's worth spending more and get a mouse with optical switches to see if they really last longer or just say f*ck it and go with the cheapest mouse I can find that's comfortable knowing that it won't last long.

The reason for the Razer question is that I've found a Razer DeathAdder V3 for a bit less than 60€, which could be the mouse to get if I go that route.

Also, no more Logitech mice for me. They're very comfortable, but I'm done with them and their POS switches.

I have never used a Razer mouse. I have recently had a trackball from Kensington, sadly the mouse wheel sensor started behaving erratically. I now have a Delux M618 Plus vertical mouse, feels rather comfortable.

Digiphile has released the RTS Renaissance bundle, several tiers filled with RTS goodness.

Thanks for your reply. I don't think I'm ready for a vertical mouse and, to be honest, I've never used a trackball. I prefer "traditional" mice, at lest for now.

My longest-lasting mouse is from Roccat (Roccat Draconia), but since they got bought by Turtle Beach they, and the model of my mouse, don't exist anymore.

For my second (work) laptop, I bought a rather cheap Sharkoon Shark Force 3 for just 15€, and despite the heavy use at work haven't had any issues with  in those 19 months

Here's the mouse: https://www.sharkoon.com/product/40254

Edit: just to precise, the mouse comes with zero software to install, which is one of the reasons why I chose it in the first place (wouldn't be able to install it on work laptop), the other being the very high DPI of 12800 in that price segment and the amount of buttons if it has to replace my Draconia one day.

Funny how things work. I've used two Draconia mice, but from the Sharkoon brand. They looked like this:

I found it after a stint with Logitech, when I got a M500 that I loved for a couple of years until it started to have problems and I replaced it with another M500 because I thought I got bad luck with a defective unit... only to have the same problem roughly after the same amount of time.

So I looked for a new mouse that was big enough (I'm a palm guy when using mice) and found this one. And I liked it so much than, when it started failing after a reasonable amount of time, I bought a new one. The packaging was different, not surprising after a few years, and the mouse didn't last much. I got refunded and found that Logitech had launched the M500S, which I thought could be a new revision with better switches. That was roughly 2 years ago ...

I'll look into that Shark Force 3.

Thanks for your reply.

Is Intel banking on Haswell nostalgia with that naming scheme?

Also, the Snapdragon test and headline are extremely misleading.

The test it wins is an AI test and depends entirely on the NPU and not the CPU or GPU, so thermals and power consumption are totally meaningless here. As pretty much nobody will run their big AI models on just an APU, this test is totally is irrelevant for 99.95% of the people.

Well in the article, it says

"Testing the chips in Geekbench 7, Signal65 found the X2 Elite Extreme to be "up to 53% faster" than Intel's chip and "up to 83% faster" than AMD's chip.

In Cinebench 2026, which is used to test multi-thread rendering performance, the X2 Elite Extreme was "up to 87% faster" than the Intel and AMD chips."

The Ai part is

" Qualcomm's specialized chip that runs AI locally almost hit 2x the AI performance compared to Intel, climbing to about 2.4x the performance of AMD's NPU in the Procyon AI Computer Vision test."

So the headline using up to 87% faster (in Cinebench) isn't that missleading imo. If they said 2x faster without saying Ai, I would have agreed. The only potential red flag is

"This report from Signal65 was commissioned by Qualcomm, but there's no reason for me to think that any of the numbers were fudged. Signal65 is independent and generally credible."

Geekbench... ARM chips tend to do extremely well there and then IRL they don't come anywhere close to those results anymore. I'm waiting for more independent reviews with other tests - and not just synthetic ones.

And that's fair. Everyone should. Not to mention ARM cpus real problem is compatibility with x86 applications in general so even if it is faster, it still won't be worth going into for most people. But your original statements were not correct. It's not just the Ai test that it wins in and even if you discount Geekbench, the headline was based on Cinebench which is a much more universal CPU test. But I do 100% agree that no one should be buying any products based on preliminary tests and to wait for full reviews before buying any product really.

I also never had a Razer mouse yet.

My first mouse was the Amiga "tank" mouse (bundled to my Amiga 500). I also discovered another compatible mouse in my computer archive... don't remember if I bought it for the Amiga or as GEOS mouse for the C128:

I got my first PC in 1993 and I bought it with the "Microsoft Mouse 2.0", which was released in the same year:

I loved it, so my next PC Mice were also from Microsoft: the first "IntelliMouse" in 1996 (mouse wheel!!!), the IntelliMouse Explorer in 1999 (optical sensor!!!) and the Microsoft Habu in 2006 (Razer tech inside).

The Microsoft Habu survived 9 years and I replaced it 2015 in 2015 with my current mouse: the SteelSeries WOW Gold Edition.

Already in it's twelfth year, not as pretty anymore... but it refuses to die!

https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/controllers/the-latest-windows-11-update-is-borking-some-multiplayer-games-but-arc-raiders-developer-has-a-quick-workaround/
If your games started unexpectedly crashing after getting a Windows update on or after August 11, you aren't alone. And Microsoft says it's looking into the problem. Microsoft reports the following "symptoms" popped up for "a limited number of games":

  • The game application becomes unresponsive
  • The game application closes without notice
  • The error "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" is displayed
  • The device restarting without warning

Microsoft has only confirmed crashes in Arc Raiders, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and The Finals so far, but you can send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app if you've also found a game crashing since the update.
(...)
But Embark, the developer of Arc Raiders, claims on Discord that the “This is a crash related to the file inpoutx64.sys, which changed with the Windows update" (via Windows Latest).

12 years?! Man, you're lucky. I'd be happy if any of mine would have lasted half of that.

That means I'll have to give Steelseries mice a look, even if the new ones are full of RGB.

It's surprising that it doesn't work to make big panels, and will start by focusing on small ones.

If the claims are true, it could be a game changer in the battle against Samsung and their QD-OLEDs.

Well, it's AMD. They needed three generations of ray tracing cores before launching something competing, and hardware is something they're more used to than these extra layers of software.

They hopefully get it in another revision, maybe two. Who knows.

I got a SteelSeries Rival 100 in 2016 and then a SteelSeries Rival 3 in 2022, so that would be almost six years (it's missing three months), assuming I didn't have any other mouse between the two - I don't think I had, but I'm not 100% sure. Regardless, I'm still using the Rival 3, so that's about four years now. I don't love the RGB part, but for a pretty basic mouse, I don't have many complaints. My main gripe is SteelSeries pushing its 'ad'/software (don't remember what exactly but very much unwanted) through Windows Update, I think. It was a get annoyed once kind of thing and hasn't bothered me since, but I still hate that it happened. Not sure if things are any better with other gaming equipment manufacturers.
