Friday gaming news, part two:

Indie shooter devs pull a reverse-Concord: No one played their game, but they 'make it free to play and keep the servers online indefinitely' anyway
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/indie-shooter-devs-pull-a-reverse-concord-no-one-played-their-game-but-they-make-it-free-to-play-and-keep-the-servers-online-indefinitely-anyway/
After around a year and a half in early access, Blindfire—a multiplayer FPS whose main thing is that its arenas are all incredibly dark, forcing you to rely on your other senses (and tech, naturally) to catch enemies—got its full release.
Which was something of a bittersweet event for its devs at Double Eleven, who wrote in a message to players that "We failed on our terms, and we're proud of that."
Blindfire had, quite simply, failed to set the world on fire. Despite mostly positive reviews, it never caught on, meaning its release was more of a Viking funeral than anything else. But—in a time where online games suddenly becoming unplayable is more of a hot-button issue than ever—the devs said that they were going to make the game free rather than shutter it, and committed to keeping the servers up for years to come.

This bloody vampire FPS with Splatoon movement tech is the best $5 I've spent on Steam this week
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/this-bloody-vampire-fps-with-splatoon-movement-tech-is-the-best-usd5-ive-spent-on-steam-this-week/
Blood Vial, a self-described "retro-inspired micro-FPS" that hit Steam earlier this week, is a lot like Splatoon—except instead of starring charming squid teens swimming through the ink spread by their paintguns, you play as a leaky, gun-toting vampire diving through the freshly-spilled gore of murderous pseudo-Catholics on a blood-soaked quest for revenge.

Path of Exile 2's 'biggest expansion ever' reworks its entire post-campaign grind for new and returning players alike
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/path-of-exile-2s-biggest-expansion-ever-reworks-its-entire-post-campaign-grind-for-new-and-returning-players-alike/
Path of Exile 2 has one of the best action RPG campaigns out there, and it's not even finished yet. It wastes no time pushing you through each act as you gear up and watch the world of Wraeclast unravel. But when it's over, you're handed a gigantic world map filled with dozens of locations and no advice on where to start your endgame grind.
That wasn't good enough for developer Grinding Gear Games, which is why it spent the last several months tearing everything out and rebuilding it so that PoE 2's endgame won't be as obtuse. All of it will be reworked in its "biggest expansion ever", Return of the Ancients, on May 29.
>> It will also be the last big one before it leaves early access (link).

Even seven-year-old GPUs will be able to run Subnautica 2, according to its latest system requirements
https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/even-seven-year-old-gpus-will-be-able-to-run-subnautica-2-according-to-its-latest-system-requirements/
It's finally almost here. After years of drama, legal cases, and hype, Subnautica 2 launches into early access on May 14, next week. Being the most wishlisted game on Steam right now, there's a lot of excitement for the release, and the developer's latest dev log gives some updated specs and info on whether you can run it.
The video in question, titled "Subnautica 2 Dev Vlog - Welcome Aboard, Captains", is the team's last dev log ahead of launch. The team say that you will be able to play on a ROG Xbox Ally or Steam Deck with no problem.

All Genshin Impact 6.6 livestream codes
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/genshin-impact-codes-6-6-livestream/
The Genshin Impact 6.6 livestream codes have arrived, or should I say, the Luna 7 codes, since we've hit the 7th version since we first entered Nod-Krai—time flies, huh? As was revealed in the recent Snezhnaya livestream, which previewed some of 7.0, the next major version is arriving on August 12. This means there are still a few more versions between now and then that will tie together and conclude Nod-Krai's story.

Skywind, Morrowind Remake in Skyrim, Gets 2026 Development Update
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/skywind-morrowind-remake-in-skyrim-gets-2026-development-update/
The team behind Skywind, the Morrowind Remake Mod for Skyrim, has released a 2026 development update video for it. In this video, the team highlights all of the tweaks, fixes, improvements, and changes that it has made to Skywind since 2025.
For those unaware, Skywind is a free fan-made mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It’s a project that aims to recreate the world of Morrowind with Skyrim’s graphics and features. Not only that, but Skywind’s user interface, combat, graphics, and system requirements will be similar to those of Skyrim. So, if you can run Skyrim, you’ll be good to go for Skywind.
According to the team, all the base game art is complete, and they are now working on nice-to-have art and extras.
All base game writing is also complete, and the team is now working on flavor texts and extras. Spellcrafting and the UI are close to complete, and all the essential 3D creatures have been modelled.
2D art is 99% complete, and 3D art is 90% complete. 86% of the exterior levels are complete, and 79% of the interiors are finished. Exterior and interior meshes are 75% complete, and 75% of all the animations are complete.
Visual Effects are at 80% complete, whereas Sound Effects and Music are at 65% and 73%, respectively. Writing and Voice Acting are almost complete as they are above 90%. Quest implementation is also at 87% complete.
The project also has full NPC class systems and traps that can be disarmed using probes. Underwater combat has evolved, and there was progress on UI and controller support in menus.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Unofficial PC Port Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess-unofficial-pc-port-released/
Zelda fans, the time has come. The first unofficial native PC port for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has just been released. This port will let you experience this Zelda game on your PC, without having to rely on emulation.
Going into more details, this PC version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has uncapped framerates. That’s right. You will be able to play this classic Zelda game with framerates higher than 30FPS or 60FPS. This will be a dream come true for a lot of its fans.
Here is how the devs have achieved this:
“Dusk essentially allows the game to render frames at a faster rate than which the game world updates (or “ticks”). Much like the original game, Dusk still ticks 30 times per second. This ensures that the game is faithful to the original experience and behaves as expected, which is important to certain types of players like speedrunners.
When the frame rate is faster than the tick rate, you end up having to render frames between ticks – even though the game world isn’t actually updating. Dusk uses information about how objects are moving through the world to create a close approximation of what the world would look like at that moment in time and renders that. This is very similar to how many modern, well-built game engines work.” Moreover, the PC version comes with full Gyro aim support. Plus, it’s fully compatible with the Steam Deck.

And that’s not all. While the PC version has all the features of the console version, it also comes with some QoL improvements. For instance, there is fast climbing, you can skip dialogues, there is fast transformation, and you can use Sun’s Song to change the time of day.
All in all, this is currently the best way to experience The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. And, as with all the unofficial PC ports we’ve seen these past couple of years, Nintendo will not be able to shut it down.
You can go ahead and download it from this link. As always, you will also need the North American (NTSC) or the European (PAL) GameCube ROM file of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. For those wondering, no. Otherwise, you won’t be able to play it. There is no support for the Wii version as of yet.

22 Minutes of Gameplay From the Morrowind Mod for Elden Ring
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/22-minutes-of-gameplay-from-the-morrowind-mod-for-elden-ring/
It’s been almost six months since our last look at the Morrowind Mod for Elden Ring. So, in case you’re wondering, this ambitious mod is not dead. In fact, a couple of days ago, modder ‘InfernoPlus’ released a new video, showcasing 22 minutes of gameplay footage from it.
For those who did not know, this mod aims to mix the world and story of Morrowind with the combat of Elden Ring. Right now, the world map is finished, and each region has its own weather and lighting. However, a lot of work still needs to be done.
In this video, we get to see the main protagonist talking to some NPCs and completing some quests. In fact, most of the quests and game systems are now functional. However, they are still rough around the edges.
We also get our first look at the game’s alchemy system. The mod, like Morrowind, will also have a Crime and Punishment system. If you commit a crime and there are guards around the area, they will come and arrest you.
As I’ve said before, this feels like a very ambitious project. I don’t believe FromSoftware or Bethesda will shut it down. Or at least I hope not. Unlike other companies, Bethesda has been very friendly to modders.

The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Gets Support for DLSS 4.5 Multi-Frame Gen & Dynamic MFG via Mod
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/the-witcher-3-next-gen-gets-support-for-dlss-4-5-multi-frame-gen-dynamic-mfg-via-mod/
Modder ‘PureDark’ has released a new mod that adds support for DLSS 4.5 Multi-Frame Gen and Dynamic MFG to The Witcher 3. Thanks to this mod, owners of an RTX 50 series GPU will be able to take advantage of the latest DLSS features.
Now, as with most of PureDark’s DLSS mods, this is behind a Patreon wall. So, that’s kind of a bummer. Still, this is something that may interest some of our RTX 50 series readers. It’s a shame NVIDIA or CDPR has not updated the game with official support for DLSS 4.5. As such, we have to rely on this kind of mods to get the game’s next-gen ray-traced version to run smoothly.
And look, I know that some people hate DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Gen. However, this tech is essential for games that heavily use RTGI or Path Tracing. Not only that, but The Witcher 3 Next-Gen had major CPU optimization issues with Ray Tracing when it came out. And while the devs tried to improve CPU performance, DLSS 4 Frame Gen remains the best way to improve overall smoothness.

Immediately after putting The Elder Scrolls in Fallout 4, hero modder gets Fallout 1 working on the Pip-Boy too: 'This was so heavily requested, I couldn't pass it up'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fallout/immediately-after-putting-the-elder-scrolls-in-fallout-4-hero-modder-gets-fallout-1-working-on-the-pip-boy-too-this-was-so-heavily-requested-i-couldnt-pass-it-up/
Modder RPGKing117 has had a busy month: He committed the blasphemy of putting Skyrim quest markers in Morrowind, achieved the triumph of cramming Morrowind into Fallout 4, and has no come back for one last job: Making Fallout 1 playable on Fallout 4's Pip-Boys and assorted vacuum tube, monochrome computer terminals.
This sequel mod does not yet have a public release, but will presumably be made available on RPGKing117's GitHub and Nexus pages like the Morrowind project before it. We do, however, already have a YouTube video of the mod in action for our viewing pleasure.
The Morrowind Mod used Fallout 4 Script Extender and the OpenMW source port to run both games at the same time, rendering Morrowind on the in-game screens of Fallout 4. Script Extender allows the player to launch Morrowind from within Fallout 4 and pass your control inputs through both games. A custom version of OpenMW streams its framebuffer—the data sent from your GPU to your screen—onto the in-game screens of Fallout 4.
As for how the Fallout 1 mod differs from the Morrowind one, we won't know the full story until RPGKing117 releases the full project on GitHub. There's a source port like OpenMW available for Fallout 1, Alex Batalov's Community Edition, and my assumption would be that this is what RPGKing117 used in his own project.

This very normal Half-Life mod lets you play as 'queen of spacetime' Max Caulfield, and it's convinced me that the next Life is Strange should be a full-on boomer shooter
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/this-very-normal-half-life-mod-lets-you-play-as-queen-of-spacetime-max-caulfield-and-its-convinced-me-that-the-next-life-is-strange-should-be-a-full-on-boomer-shooter/
I've always thought Half-Life didn't have enough teenagers in it. I mean, what's an underground research facility for if not navigating the relationship challenges of adolescence? It is, frankly, shocking that Valve so flagrantly neglected this demographic in its depiction of alien invasions and military coverups. I demand justice! I demand action! I demand Max Caulfield!
Fortunately, modder ThePriceFielder has picked up the baton Valve dropped, increasing the number of young adults in Half-Life from zero to one. Half-Life is Strange switches out Gordon Freeman as its protagonist for the lead character of the first series of Life is Strange, as well as Life is Strange: Double Exposure and the recently released Life is Strange: Reunion.
"Half-Life is Strange lets you play Half-Life as the queen of spacetime herself and use her rewind powers," writes ThePriceFielder on the mod's ModDB page. No further explanation is provided, and I suppose none is required. Max Caulfield is, essentially, Generation Z's G-Man, so who's to say she wouldn't rock up to the resonance cascade and dispatch headcrab zombies with a crowbar and unconvincing slang?
While ThePriceFielder doesn't provide much in the way of a description, there is a video of Half-Life is Strange in action. The various clips that comprise the video show Max using her powers to manipulate combat scenarios. In one clip, we see a scientist dash down a staircase before being shot by marines in a standard Half-Life sequence. But then, Max intervenes and time skips backward, letting her eliminate the squaddies before the boffin dashes to his death.
Some interactable objects are highlighted with Life is Strange's distinctive chalk-sketch tooltips, which blend surprisingly well with Half-Life's lo-fi visuals. Alongside her powers, Max can also wield all the weapons that Gordon can. There's a scene later in the trailer where Max murks a pair of marines before saying "Don't mess with Max, bitches," thus justifying this entire endeavour in a five-second clip, and making a compelling case for the next Life is Strange being a no-holds-barred boomer shooter.
Half-Life is Strange is still very much a work-in-progress, with no release date as yet. But I'm already sold on the concept. In the meantime, you could check out some other excellent Half-Life mods, such as a mod that lets you definitively rescue Half-Life scientists, or the hugely ambitious total conversion, Diffusion, which has now replaced its AI voices with proper actors.

I went back to Grand Theft Auto 4 for a Call of Duty zombie mod mash up and came away wondering how the heck I got this old
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/grand-theft-auto/i-went-back-to-grand-theft-auto-4-for-a-call-of-duty-zombie-mod-mash-up-and-came-away-wondering-how-the-heck-i-got-this-old/
There's something fitting about a bygone zombie mod that simply refuses to die. That's exactly what Cheyron's Nazi Zombies is—a hybrid throwback to Call of Duty's earliest undead horde mode that's 10 years in the making and set within Grand Theft Auto 4.
I hardly need an excuse to return to GTA 4's faux slant on New York City, so at face value Cheyron's work is great fun. Re-filling the shoes of Niko Bellic with an assault rifle in-hand, fending off wave after wave of faceless bad guys feels as good now as it ever did decades ago; as does revisiting some of the game's iconic map locations, such as the Times Square-aping 'Star Junction' of Liberty City.
Beneath the familiar veneer of this fan-made project, though, sits something a wee bit more powerful: my warped perception of time. The first time a zombie horde mode made its way to the Call of Duty franchise was in World at War, which was released in 2008 just a few months after the fourth main series entry of Rockstar's enduring crime sim.
There have been 13 variations of COD's undead horde 'em up offshoot since, and so with this in mind, plus the fact Grand Theft Auto 4 just celebrated its 18th birthday, I suddenly feel very old. I had just turned 22 when GTA 4 arrived on consoles, and while we joke about how long Grand Theft Auto 6 has taken on its way to hitting store shelves, I'm now 40 and wondering where the hell the time has gone.
Anyway, lest I bore you further with my personal existential dread, know that the perfect tonic for all of the above lies within Cheyron's Nazi Zombies. Its rhythmic waves of virtual murder are simple yet effective, and I'm having loads of fun simply hanging out in a world that time hasn't quite forgotten. Cheyron says Nazi Zombies is 10 years in the making, having just released the project onto Nexus Mods.
Here's Cheryon themselves on their work: "A faithful recreation of Call of Duty Nazi Zombies in GTA 4. Relive the old magic. Try to beat your top score! Includes sounds and mechanics of Nazi zombies.
"Buy colas, buy new weapons at the box, play co-op with NPCs and go for headshots! Every level gets harder."

This Team Fortress 2 zombie mod looks so good, we almost thought it was official
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/this-team-fortress-2-zombie-mod-looks-so-good-we-almost-thought-it-was-official/
My high school years were spent pumping thousands of hours into games like Killing Floor 2 and Team Fortress 2, so I'm glad a mod like the upcoming Mann Versus Zombies—a total conversion which turns TF2 into a zombie-blasting horde survival bonanza—didn't come out during my high school years. I probably would not have graduated.
The details are on its Steam page, and if it weren't for the yellow wrench banner informing me that this is a mod I might have confused it for a real spinoff. The trailer is an Source Filmmaker-powered treat, showing off some new guns as well as zombified versions of each of TF2's iconic mercenaries as cartoony as they are macabre.
It doesn't share any gameplay footage, just a few screenshots, but the feature list is impressive: co-op with up to eight players, unique perks, and a barricade mechanic, and endlessly scaling waves of increasingly intense difficulty. You can even wear the cosmetics you've snagged in the regular game—and if you've ever played TF2, you know that's really all that matters.
While the new guns are a touch more grounded than the game's standard arsenal, they strike a nice balance between tacticool and cartoonish. You're already well-served if you want a zombie survival game from Valve or a horde mode within TF2, but this mod seems specifically excited to take TF2's zany world in a slightly bloodier, more grim direction.
If it feels as good to play as it looks, it should be a treat for fans of the venerable shooter looking for a change of pace. That said, there's no release window just yet.
>> There’s only one screenshot in the article, but the Steam page has a few more, as well as a trailer.

Resident Evil Requiem & Pragmata Get Major Ray Tracing and Path Tracing Upgrade With New Mod
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/resident-evil-requiem-pragmata-get-major-ray-tracing-and-path-tracing-upgrade-with-new-mod/
One of the biggest issues of Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata was the underwhelming Ray Tracing effects. These two Capcom games looked great with Path Tracing. But the Ray Tracing implementation was not that great. However, a new mod has surfaced that aims to push their Ray Tracing effects to higher levels.
Created by JoHien, this Graphics Enhancement Mod aims to push the visuals further with improved raster quality, expanded RT settings beyond the in-game High cap, and minor PT improvements. It also includes shadow preset, SSR, SSAO, GI/reflection tuning, Radiance Cache, and more.
Let’s start with some improvements for the rasterized versions. So, firstly, the mod adds support for XeGTAO, which is a higher-quality temporal accumulation approach. It also allows users to enable distance-field AO for occlusion beyond screen space. Furthermore, it provides broader screen-space shadow coverage around characters and objects at small distances. It can also allow you to disable Small Object Culling. This will prevent small distant objects from being culled, reducing pop-in at a higher draw cost.
On the Ray Tracing side, we get a new Quality Mode that goes beyond the in-game High cap. We also get support for RTAO. Plus, you can enable ray tracing for translucent geometry such as glass and foliage. There is also a new aggressive denoising in the RT pipeline. This may reduce some of the awful noise issues these games had, but it can introduce some ghosting.
It’s also worth noting that there is experimental support for Radiance Cache acceleration for both Ray Tracing and Ray Tracing. Enabling it will expose settings for ray bounce, scene scale, and tile size.
Finally, get some Path Tracing improvements and enhancements. For instance, the mod increases the number of ray bounces for the path tracing pass. Higher values will produce more accurate multi-bounce lighting. In Resident Evil Requiem, we get strand-based shadow rendering for hair in the PT pipeline. We also get experimental support for ReSTIR GI. In Pragmata, the mod can disable the shadow map fallback for path tracing, forcing the PT pipeline to handle all shadows natively.
Naturally, this mod comes with a noticeable performance hit. From what I’ve seen, the new Ray Tracing Ultra sits somewhere between Ray Tracing High and Path Tracing. So, if you can’t run Path Tracing in either of these two games, you can try this RT Mod.
You can download the mod from here and here. At the end of the article, you’ll also find some comparison screenshots. The vanilla shots are on the left, whereas the modded shots are on the right. I’ve also included a video in which the modder compares a scene in Pragmata. The video includes performance metrics as well, which will give you an idea of the mod’s performance impact.

Final Fantasy 14's newest expansion name almost broke the series' 12-year tradition as Yoshi-P 'really wanted' his original idea

The last few times Square Enix has unveiled the name of a new Final Fantasy 14 expansion, I've wondered whether the team plans to stick to its love for a good compound word. As it turns out, the answer is "yes" every time: Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker, Dawntrail, and now the upcoming Evercold.

2K Games confirms layoffs at Project Ethos shooter studio and hints at new design direction: 'It's become clear that changes need to be made'
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/2k-games-confirms-layoffs-at-project-ethos-shooter-studio-and-hints-at-new-design-direction-its-become-clear-that-changes-need-to-be-made/
2K Games studio 31st Union has confirmed the layoff of an undisclosed number of employees, first reported by GamesIndustry, as it continues to develop Project Ethos, the free-to-play hero shooter announced in 2024.
In a memo sent to 31st Union employees and shared with PC Gamer, 31st Union studio head Ben Brinkman, who left Respawn to take the role in October 2025, said "it's become clear that changes need to be made to our team in order to realize our goals and deliver this experience for players."

True permadeath: You can never play this game again if you let its immortal snail assassin touch your mouse pointer
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/true-permadeath-you-can-never-play-this-game-again-if-you-let-its-immortal-snail-assassin-touch-your-mouse-pointer/
I've seen a few different versions of the "snail assassin" or "immortal snail" or "snail hunting you down" meme over the years, but it looks like it originated from an episode of the Rooster Teeth podcast back in 2014, where the question was basically this:
Would you take $10 million dollars, but an immortal snail would always be slowly crawling toward you no matter where you were, and if it touched you, you'd die?
(...)
Soon you'll be able to live out that scenario on your desktop, including the life or (perma)death stakes. Don't Touch The Snail is a game where a snail slowly, ever-so-slowly, is always moving toward your mouse pointer. If the snail touches your pointer, it's game over… forever.

Arrowhead addresses the Helldivers 2 community as recent Steam reviews slump to Mostly Negative: 'We want to be clearer about what we're working on and what's coming next'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/arrowhead-addresses-the-helldivers-2-community-as-recent-steam-reviews-slump-to-mostly-negative-we-want-to-be-clearer-about-what-were-working-on-and-whats-coming-next/
It was only in February that we reported that Helldivers 2 was in the best shape it had been in since launch. The siege of Cyberstan galactic campaign was the glittering jewel in the game's live-service storytelling crown, delivering new toys like the Bastion tank and colossal new enemies called Vox Engines, as well as a dramatic invasion of the Automatons' home planet where every dead patriot reduced the chance of success.
Yet only three months later, Helldivers 2's recent reviews have plummeted to 'Mostly Negative', with a host of issues from alleged hidden changes to weapons to underwhelming warbonds putting the community at loggerheads with developer Arrowhead Studios once again. This came to a head on Friday, with Arrowhead publishing a Steam post addressing the community's grievances.

Anticipated supercannon sim PVKK delayed until 2027, but for the kind of reason you want to hear
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sim/anticipated-supercannon-sim-pvkk-delayed-until-2027-but-for-the-kind-of-reason-you-want-to-hear/
PVKK, or Planetenverteidigungskanonenkommandant if you're particular, is a game we've been eagerly awaiting: It was named one of our most anticipated games during last year's PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted rundown, largely by virtue of how badly we want to fiddle with the many deliciously tactile switches, levers, knobs, cranks, and buttons it offers for the operation of its titular planetary defense cannon.
Unfortunately, we've now got a longer wait before we can play the Papers Please-like supercannoneer sim for ourselves. In a Steam news post, game director René Habermann announced that PVKK has been delayed until 2027 "to make sure PVKK is in the best shape possible at launch."

Abiotic Factor just got another massive update that adds better pets, a ludicrously involved chemistry system, and most importantly, a mop for cleaning up all your failed experiments
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/abiotic-factor-just-got-another-massive-update-that-adds-better-pets-a-ludicrously-involved-chemistry-system-and-most-importantly-a-mop-for-cleaning-up-all-your-failed-experiments/
Abiotic Factor is already a massive game; you could easily spend 80+ hours exploring its sprawling, Black Mesa-ish research facility. But that hasn't stopped developer Deep Field Games further extending the tendrils of its labyrinthine, interdimensional science lab. Last December's "Holiday Cryosphere" update added a giant, living snowglobe that players could frolic festively around, and its latest patch opens up another strange dimension for your expeditious scientists to investigate.
The Cosmic Companions update invites players to brave the Dunkeltaler Forest, a coniferous portal world home to the Alpen Signal Observatorium. Accessible via a portal in the Hydroplant, the portal world will challenge you to track down the source of the signal picked up by the Observatorium. Mysterious!

Europa Universalis 5's 'biggest update yet' expands the Balkans, overhauls the economy, and fixes more than 2,000 bugs
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/europa-universalis-5s-biggest-update-yet-expands-the-balkans-overhauls-the-economy-and-fixes-more-than-2-000-bugs/
Paradox Interactive has rolled out its "biggest update yet" for Europa Universalis 5. This is a slightly cheeky way to phrase things, considering this is only the second major update for Paradox' latest, dizzyingly complex grand strategy. But it's also accurate. With patch notes that Paradox claims would fill 72 pages of a Google doc, the Encinades update overhauls several of the game's major systems and squashes more than 2,000 bugs.

Stellaris is getting space nomads and scenarios for its 10th birthday
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/stellaris-is-getting-space-nomads-and-scenarios-for-its-10th-birthday/
Most strategy games that make it to 10 years old have already passed the event horizon of their development cycle and are being pulled apart like spaghetti by the gravity of the thousands of new games released every day. Not so for Stellaris, Paradox's spacebound grand strategy 4X. How it got to where it is and is still drawing in intrepid stellar statebuilders is a saga worthy of a Star Wars title crawl. But it's not even done yet, with the newly announced Season 10 finally bringing space nomads to the table.
Nomads, with a current release date of Q2 2026, will finally let you play a species without a homeworld. This is something that Paradox has wanted to do for a long time, but posed significant technical challenges. We got to chat with game director Stephen Murray about what's coming.

Rust's latest update adds mortars but 'no visual guide to help you land shells,' so get ready for some chaos
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/rusts-latest-update-adds-mortars-but-no-visual-guide-to-help-you-land-shells-so-get-ready-for-some-chaos/
Facepunch Studios may have only just released S&box, but the launch of its spiritual successor to Garry's Mod has done nothing to slow down its monthly Rust update. It is as predictable as the tide, or having your base raided by your half-naked neighbours. This month's "Upgrade hard, raid harder" patch brings a major overhaul to one of Rust's key systems, though personally I'm more interested in the addition of mortars, sicko for explosions that I am.

Two Point Museum's latest DLC features a buildable studio where artists can create 'millions' of unique artworks, and there's 'no generative AI involved' whatsoever
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/two-point-museums-latest-dlc-features-a-buildable-studio-where-artists-can-create-millions-of-unique-artworks-and-theres-no-generative-ai-involved-whatsoever/
I'm a big fan of Two Point Museum, the latest and greatest of Two Point Studios' revival of the Bullfrog-style management sim. But I am also a fan of how the developer has approached the release of its DLCs. You can pay for expansions like Zooseum and Fantasy Finds to get a big chunk of extra stuff to build, but you also get a portion of the DLC for free with each of the game's updates.
Such is the case with Two Point Museum's latest add-on, Arty Facts. As the name implies, this expansion lets you add an art gallery to your institution. The pack adds 27 new art exhibits for your guests to gaze meaningfully at, but it also adds a new "art studio" room where your experts can create paintings of their own. According to the expansion's launch trailer, the art studio facilitates "millions of potential outcomes", thus providing an "endless" stream of custom art.

Elder Scrolls 6 is a ways off, but who needs it? The world's most specific game jam is back with 40 playable entries based off Oblivion's wonderful/awful persuade-o-wheel
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/the-elder-scrolls/elder-scrolls-6-is-a-ways-off-but-who-needs-it-the-worlds-most-specific-game-jam-is-back-with-40-playable-entries-all-based-off-oblivions-wonderful-awful-persuade-o-wheel/
Remember Oblivion's wheel system for grinding NPC disposition? You probably do, since a very popular remastered version of that game came out a single year ago. But if not then, well, you Skyrim kids don't know what you're missing. Where the most recent Elder Scrolls (the one that's 15 years old), only let you affect your relationship with NPCs by completing quests and joining factions, Oblivion would let you affect everyone's opinion of you granularly, via a wheel-based minigame you could drop into mid-conversation.
Was it good? No. Was it intuitive? No. But was it representative of the actual experience of building up a rapport with other human beings? Again, no. No wonder then that it has become an object of cathexis for a certain generation of videogame players who found themselves developmentally T-boned by Oblivion's jelly-clockwork world at precisely the right age. We miss it, we yearn for it, and some of us have brought it back—for the second time.
Wheeljam 2 is the second iteration of a game jam that tasks participants with the speedy creation of playable things that feature "either the lockpicking minigame or persuasion wheel in some capacity." That's right, folks, the lockpicking minigame is in there too now.

Yeah, pretty bizarre, having full 2048 shaders like 9060XT, especially if those rumored clocks are true, since it pits it at pretty much the same TFLOPS as 9060. I can really figure how that would be cheaper than 9060, which most likely uses silicon that was not good enough for 9060XT.

At this point I'm thinking it must be a false rumor - 1024 shaders would make much more sense for 9050.

Either that, or a lower memory bandwidth by using cheaper memory chips with lower clock speeds (like GDDR5 instead of GDDR6 for instance, or simply lower clocked chips), which probably would result in a lower price point than a binned chip right now.

Yeah - really eager to see what that 9050 will look like, though whatever it is I think it's too little, too late.

From my current POV, AMD ultimately botched RX90 series - great launch of series and 9070/XT and 9060XT are great cards, but while nVidia not only has cards in lower price bracket than that, but can also rely on previous generations to act as lower tiers (due to DLSS support and RT features), being even as cocky as to relaunch 3060 12GB (and yes, as someone who has one of those in one of the rigs, that card is still good enough for most things as entry level GPU), AMD has nothing similar to offer in that bracket with similar performance/features.
