Today we have a remarkable story to share with you. Some of you will recall that Gameplanet recently partnered with the teams behind Metro: Last Light to give away a gaming PC.
We challenged you all to come up with a design for a new weapon that could be cobbled together from items found in the post-apocalyptic Moscow metro system. Entries were to be judged on their relevance to the world of Metro: Last Light, their practicality, and their innovation, or humour.
There were many exceptional designs, but there could be only one winner: the 'Multi-Barreled Bicycle Shotgun' by Alexandre "Hypron" Bannwrath.
"A great design that looks far too feasible for our liking, Hypron's Bicycle Shotgun is simple yet gloriously demented," we wrote as we declared Alexandre the winner. "It fits the design brief perfectly, and it will be scandalous if 4A Games doesn't immediately release it as free DLC for the game."
What we haven't been able to share with you until now is that the team behind Metro: Last Light were as impressed with Alexandre's detailed design as we were, and they immediately reached out to see if they couldn't make our lighthearted challenge a reality.
We're very pleased to welcome 4A Games to Gameplanet, and in this special guest feature to recount how a Victoria University student's submission went from fan-made design to in-game reality.
4A are awsome

@Poll: There should be the option for multi vote, one serious and then the Basil one.

Takedown: Red Sabre, the tactical shooter from Serellan – made up of former Ghost Recon, Halo, SOCOM, SWAT and F.E.A.R.developers – is now available through Steam. According to the link, it will launch in three hours, so while it is “technically” not available, well, you know what I am saying. Watch the launch trailer below.

La-Mulana 2 was announced during TGS 2013 today for PC, Joystiq reports. The team on the ground took a shot of the logo, and says the game will star the daughter of Lemeza Kosugi – the original’s protagonist. A short gameplay video was shown by Nigoro’s Takumi Naramura, showing a bit of a Norse themed world. The game is slated for release in 2014.

Valve has announced that next week it will be “talking about the steps” its taking to make Steam more accessible on televisions and in the living room.
According to the firm, it has three announcements to make beginning with the first one on Monday morning.
The announcements will be posted here.
The splash pages says: “The Steam Universe is Expanding in 2014,” so expect something interesting.
Gabe Newell said earlier this week at Linuxcon 2013 that announcements would be coming, so the notice today backs his comments up.
During the event, Newell said Valve was looking to the more open platform of Linux as the future of gaming, as “none of the propriety closed platforms are going to be able to provide,” a grand unification between “mobile, the living room, and the desktop.”
“Next week we’re going to be rolling out more information about how we get there and what are the hardware opportunities that we see for bringing Linux into the living room and potentially pointing further down the road to how we can get it even more unified with mobile,” he said.
In other words, watch this space on Monday, September 23.

Whilst I generally hate announcements of announcements, I'm looking forward to see what Valve have up their sleeves.
Earlier today, vice president of Epic Games, Mark Rein, tweeted something that instantly caught the tech world's attention. In his tweet, he said that earlier this week while at NVIDIA, he saw the most amazing thing and it was not a GPU. This is led to much speculation as Rein is a longtime supporter of Oculus VR's Rift technology.
Could this mean that NVIDIA is working on their own VR technology? This could be the case, but I won't jump the gun too soon as NVIDIA has been working hard at enabling mobile GPUs to play more graphically intensive games. With Project Logan, we're already seeing super high frame rates thanks to tessellation technology that is running on Tegra-based processors. I feel that this is the safer bet, but only time will tell what Rein was talking about.

Seems the speculation is that it is this
which looks very promising

If I'm honest, all this excitement over those headsets or glasses mean nothing to me. It's not something I'm interested.
With that said, and respecting the work that those guys at Nvidia are doing, I see those glasses as something useless... in games, of course.
You see, one of the biggest reasons for the Oculus or Sony's devices is increasing immersion in games. Big (fake) screens in front of your eyes, dolby stereo (or whatever), motion tracking sensors to change the in-game camera, etc. All those things go in the direction of improving immersion. That's also the reason why they are headsets and not glasses, to separate you (at least your eyes and ears) from the real world.
But what kind of immersion will you get from those "sunglasses" when you can still see and hear everything surrounding you?
I hope Mark Rein is hyped about something else (maybe Nvidia is launching their own console Steambox to pair it with Shield?), otherwise this seems just pointless.
Please excuse my bad English.

I have my doubts about the VR headset future myself. I haven't really been sold on actually buying a product anyway. The concept is appealing in a sci-fi nerd way for sure, but actually playing games that way for many hours? I am not sure that it will be more than a novelty. Light-field displays are also somthing that interests me in a nerdy "that is some cool tech" way as well that I have my doubts of it's practicality. Especially in real-time rendering as the different lightfields required will no doubt have a pretty big performance impact (which is probably why Nvidia are interested in it lol).
Who knows what Mark Rain actually saw tho, could be anything lol. Nvidia work on a lot of weird stuff these days.
also check out this kinda depressing article be the Race the Sun devs
