Oh, and, as I said on Friday, I won't make the news today. There's a ton of articles and I'd need to use the headline + link style, which isn't great.

So, feel free to check DSOGaming (here) or PCGamer (go to archive here to get them all) to find out what happened during the weekend.

You may also want to check the different live streams that PCGamer has done of the conferences:

I wonder what price range of GPUs people who used to buy $200 or $300 graphics cards (e.g. GTX 1060 or RX 480) are using today.

One of my PC's is exactly that type of budget - it had 1060, than I upgraded it with 3060 few years ago. 3060 is somewhat above that price range, but having 12GB and DLSS keeps it still very usable for some time in the future (just tested over weekend Hell is Us Demo on it, runs more than fine), until RT heavy games of 10th generation hit the market - and even then, at least in first year or two, most games will be cross gen, and 3060 is about the same power as PS5 - so, I'd say, it turned out to be a good buy.

The GPU of my last PC was in that price range... actually, it was slightly below. In my PC from 2010 I put a Radeon HD 5770 into my PC back then, and it cost me about 180€.

My entire PC from 2010 was 1500€, but that included things like:

  • Assembly, stress-testing and shipping (~180€)
  • Monitor (~185€)
  • Printer (90€)
  • Blu-Ray burner (175€)

In other words, my actual PC components that would be in a current build with a quad-core CPU (Athlon II X4 635) and upper mid-range GPU (Powercolor Radeon HD 5770), a mid-range Motherboard with WiFi (Asus 880G) and Windows 7 Ultimate cost actually less than 900€. Nowadays GPU of the same range (9070XT) and motherboard (B650)  together would break that.

In fact, I made a calculation with similar equipment as my old PC a couple weeks ago (with a High-end Cardreader instead of Blu-Ray and secondary HDD instead of the printer, though I forgot the stress-test) and got to twice the price:

So yeah, too expensive for me right now, I'll have to stick to my laptop for the time being

Still no word on FSR4 coming to older generations of Radeon cards outside of RDNA 4. Personally I think the way Radeon sells it's multi-generational gpu lineup at the same time with different features is dumb. You have some gpus that have the latest features like RDNA 4 but then you have things like Strix Halo and Z2 handhelds featuring RDNA 3.5 which doesn't have FSR 4 yet being sold at the sametime. Hell, Z2A is actually Zen 2 and RDNA 2 just to make it even more confusing.

We'll see if MSoft also manages to improve the performance of the device with that lighter version of Windows.

Also, and because they've proved that they can alter the way Windows runs depending on the programs and hardware (making games run only on the X3D cores), it would be great if they can bring some of what they're doing for that handheld version of Windows to the regular desktop one, so that there are less stuff running in the background and there are moe CPU cycles for games.

Looks good. Too bad the requirements to get one will make it something very few people will have.

It's quite clear to me that AMD won't bring FSR4 to older hardware, but they didn't want to say that because they wated to avoid as much negativity around the new products as possible. Now that they no longer care, see the "8GB is still fine" mishap rom Azor, I'm sure they'll bring the news sooner rather than later.

Apparently nVidia GPU partners are accelerating production and supply of GPU's into the American market before tariffs come into effect... Which MAY actually explain the lack of AMD GPU's charting anywhere... nVidia and it's partners are just stockpiiling and selling everything and dwarfing AMD's higher sell-through rate.
