I wonder what price range of GPUs people who used to buy $200 or $300 graphics cards (e.g. GTX 1060 or RX 480) are using today.

The GPU of my last PC was in that price range... actually, it was slightly below. In my PC from 2010 I put a Radeon HD 5770 into my PC back then, and it cost me about 180€.

My entire PC from 2010 was 1500€, but that included things like:

  • Assembly, stress-testing and shipping (~180€)
  • Monitor (~185€)
  • Printer (90€)
  • Blu-Ray burner (175€)

In other words, my actual PC components that would be in a current build with a quad-core CPU (Athlon II X4 635) and upper mid-range GPU (Powercolor Radeon HD 5770), a mid-range Motherboard with WiFi (Asus 880G) and Windows 7 Ultimate cost actually less than 900€. Nowadays GPU of the same range (9070XT) and motherboard (B650)  together would break that.

In fact, I made a calculation with similar equipment as my old PC a couple weeks ago (with a High-end Cardreader instead of Blu-Ray and secondary HDD instead of the printer, though I forgot the stress-test) and got to twice the price:

So yeah, too expensive for me right now, I'll have to stick to my laptop for the time being
