Epic’s Tim Sweeney shares first details about Unreal Engine 6
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/epics-tim-sweeney-shares-first-details-about-unreal-engine-6/
In an interview with Lex Fridman, Epic Games’ Tim Sweeney shared the first details about the next version of Unreal Engine, Unreal Engine 6. According to Sweeney, UE6 is a few years away, but we might see preview versions of it in 2 or 3 years.
Epic Games is currently working on two different aspects of UE5. Right now, there is Unreal Engine 5 for developers and Unreal Engine 5 for Fortnite creators. As such, there is different bits of development that are only in one area of it, and they are not applied to both. For instance, not all of the UE5 features are available in Fortnite because Epic hasn’t figured out or hasn’t gotten to the point where they can deploy them to all seven platforms in an independent way.
As Sweeney claimed, the place where all these different threads of development come together is Unreal Engine 6. In short, the aim for Unreal Engine 6 is to bring the best of both worlds together. It will offer much easier gameplay programming for both the Fortnite community and developers. Sweeney also stated that UE6 will offer more scalability to large scale simulations of all sorts. Plus, it will offer greater ease of use. This means that studios will be able to hire programmers who are familiar with and experienced with the engine.

MODS, EMULATORS & FAN PROJECTS

Fallout 4 fans, here is something for you today. Modder ‘GlowingPeketo’ has released a new cool DLC-sized expansion mod for Fallout 4, called Atom’s Retribution 2. So, let’s see what’s in store for you, shall we?
Atom’s Retribution 2 offers over 27 hours of new content. The mod comes with over 30 main quests and 10 side missions. Moreover, it adds a new worldplace for players to explore. There are 20+ unique voiced actors and 200+ additional NPCs, with over 4000 lines of fully voiced dialogue.
And that’s not all. Atom’s Retribution 2 has a new weather system and unique atmospheric music. Players can also expect new faction conflicts with the Institute, Brotherhood of Steel, and Railroad. Plus, there are 8+ new robot parts and a unique robot upgrade system. You will also find 3 new playable weapons and 10+ new faction-exclusive weapons. Oh, and there are two new companions for you to find.
In short, this is a pretty big DLC-sized mod for Fallout 4. It’s also compatible with some other big DLC mods, like Sim Settlements and Mind Game.

RealDOOM 3 Version 4.0 is now available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/realdoom-3-version-4-0-is-now-available-for-download/
Modder ‘AgentLoginov’ has just released a brand new update of the RealDOOM3 Mod for, you guessed it, Doom 3. So, let’s see what this new update brings to the table.
For those who don’t know, RealDOOM3 is a mod that aims to update the game’s atmosphere and graphics. It also updates the maps, adds new creatures, and new sounds.
Version 4.0 improves the GUI and weapon textures. It will also make different creatures appear on each map. This may increase the game’s replayability as you will now face different enemies in different places.
The modder also claims that he has updated and improved the story of the base game, as well as its Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Mission DLCs. Sadly, he did not go into more details about these changes. So, I don’t really know what has been improved.

Free Dino Crisis 2 Fan Remake Demo in Unreal Engine 5 Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/free-dino-crisis-2-fan-remake-demo-in-unreal-engine-5-released/
Last week, Stefano Cagnani released a demo for his fan remake of Dino Crisis 2 in Unreal Engine 5. Now, the reason I did not share this project back then was because it was put behind a pay wall. Thankfully, though, Cagnani has decided to make the demo free to everyone.
Since this is created by a single person, you should temper your expectations. This is NOT what an official remake of Dino Crisis 2 will look like. Still, it can give you a vague idea of what a remake of it could be.
The original Dino Crisis 2 used fixed camera angles. On the other hand, the fan remake took a page from Capcom’s remakes of the Resident Evil games. As such, it uses a third-person camera viewpoint. In the demo, players can explore some of the game’s environments. They can also collect cards, solve puzzles and fight some dinosaurs.
As you will see, the demo is rough around the edges. Animations are not that smooth, and Regina’s 3D model feels weird. Still, you have to keep in mind that this is done by one person. Yes, it’s rough. However, it’s also a free demo that some DC2 fans may find interesting.

First 4K Texture Pack for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/first-4k-texture-pack-for-the-elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion-remastered/
Modder ‘Canarious’ has just released the first 4K Texture Pack for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. This pack focuses on improving the textures of armors, weapons, clothing, and jewelry. So, let’s take a closer look at it.
Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered came out last month on PC. For the most part, the game has high-quality textures. However, there are instances in which you can find some low-res textures.
As said, this first pack aims to enhance the game’s armors, weapons, clothing, and jewelry. The pack is 16GB in size, and you can download it from this link. Canarious has used AI tools to upscale the original textures. As such, the modded textures retain the art style of the original ones. At the same time, they look crisper and more detailed than before.
In future versions, the modder plans to enhance the textures for landscapes. After that, he will overhaul the game’s vegetation and building structures.
Sadly, Canarious did not provide any before-and-after comparisons. However, we did share some screenshots that showcase the new 4K textures. You can find some of them at the end of the article.

Doom mod Blitz: Race Against Time only gives you half a minute per map, so it's a good thing Doomguy runs at 50 mph
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/doom-mod-blitz-race-against-time-only-gives-you-half-a-minute-per-map-so-its-a-good-thing-doomguy-runs-at-50-mph/
Not everyone has years, weeks or even hours to commit to demon slaughter. Not all of us can be Coincident, fighting through the armies of hell for six hours solid. Sometimes you've not even got a minute to spare, and if that's the case, I recommend seeking better work-life balance. Also to check out madcap Doom mod Blitz: Race Against Time, a collection of 32 maps, each with a 30 second timer. Ready, set, kill!
Having played through about half of the set over lunch, I can confirm that Blitz is a genuinely fun collection of levels built around OG Doomguy's absurd 50 mph run speed. The second each level begins, you've got to make a beeline to the finish before the exit door seals itself shut. Each map starts you out with just the basic pistol, but the weapons you'll be picking up here have been re-tuned with speed in mind, making for a satisfying little scramble. The bad news is that the enemies are a bit twitchier as well, along with a few new baddies that can stop a run dead.
The main difficulty comes from the sheer chaos of it all. Given that there were 17 mappers involved in this project, you'll have to think fast and adapt to wildly varied environments. From a sprint across crumbling rooftops taken straight out of Evangelion to barreling through an office building in search of the toilet, there's never a dull moment, and there's a surprisingly cool and varied soundtrack to be heard, even if you won't get through half a track most of the time.
>> There’s one screenshot, a trailer, and the links to not only the mod, but also DSDA or GZDoom to run it.

Monday news, part two:

The Breach update for No Rest for the Wicked is an overhaul so massive that old save files just won't cut it
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/the-breach-update-for-no-rest-for-the-wicked-is-an-overhaul-so-massive-that-old-save-files-just-wont-cut-it/
No Rest for the Wicked has had a bumpy ride through early access so far. While I thought the initial release was an impressive overhead blend of Diablo-ish action RPG systems and Souls-like tropes, it was held back by performance issues and limited scope, and only saw one major update after release (the Crucible patch) before developer Moon Studios fell largely silent.
I'm chalking most of that quiet spell up to behind-the-scenes shenanigans, as Moon Studios have now successfully reclaimed the rights to the game from publisher Take-Two, making this a fully independent production. And now, in what feels like a publisher-free relaunch (and first anniversary celebration), No Rest for the Wicked has gone through a bit of a growth spurt, roughly doubling the size of its world and overhauling a lot of the underlying systems in what the studio are calling the Breach update.

Elden Ring Nightreign's overview trailer lays it all out for the quirky co-op spinoff
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/dark-souls/elden-ring-nightreigns-overview-trailer-lays-it-all-out-for-the-quirky-co-op-spinoff/
For all the trailers and articles dedicated to it, unless you got in on the 'network test' open beta event back in January, it can be surprisingly hard to pin down exactly what Elden Ring's upcoming co-op spinoff Nightreign actually is. A glorified boss rush? Some weird Fortnite-esque live-service Forever Game? Or is it an official replacement for Elden Ring's seamless co-op mod? None of the above, really, and the latest trailer aims to dispel some of those myths and explain exactly what players are getting into through ten minutes of soothingly infomercial-esque narration.

Lead Diablo artists say the best way to design endless spiky armor sets is to go look at anything that isn't Diablo: 'You can come back with a fresh mind and create new things'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/lead-diablo-artists-say-the-best-way-to-design-endless-spiky-armor-sets-is-to-go-look-at-anything-that-isnt-diablo-you-can-come-back-with-a-fresh-mind-and-create-new-things/
In April, I had a chance to ask lead Diablo 4 developers how tough it is for their dev teams to continue coming up with ominous names for gameplay activities when they've spent 30 years exhausting every thesaurus in the demonic lexicon. Their answer: Pretty tough.
Last week, PC Gamer spoke to the lead artists in the Diablo franchise, and we took the opportunity to pitch a similar question. After designing thousands of barbed, demonic armor pieces, how do they stay inspired when they have to design new Diablo gear pieces and ghouls—whether for Berserk collaborations or otherwise?

This 'narrative simulator' about a delivery driver in deeply rural Russia is giving me serious Mudrunner meets Disco Elysium vibes
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sim/this-narrative-simulator-about-a-delivery-driver-in-deeply-rural-russia-is-giving-me-serious-mudrunner-meets-disco-elysium-vibes/
Mudrunner in the style of Disco Elysium is maybe not the most obvious videogame mashup imaginable, but that's pretty much what seems to be going on with Zarya, an upcoming "narrative simulator" about a guy named Vasily who's just trying to earn a living and do the occasional solid for his friends in a deeply rural post-Soviet backwater.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 actor celebrates the Grand Theft Auto 6 delay: 'WE'RE IN WITH A SHOT! GOTY!'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/kingdom-come-deliverance-2-actor-celebrates-the-grand-theft-auto-6-delay-were-in-with-a-shot-goty/
The big news of the day is, without question, the Grand Theft Auto 6 delay from fall 2025 to May 26, 2026. Despite the reassuring words of Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who said the company is still going to make a great many truckloads of money this year, just about everybody was unhappy to hear the news: Gamers, analysts, Take-Two shareholders, and PC Gamer senior editor Rich Stanton are all taking it quite poorly.
In fact, I'd go so far as to say pretty much everyone is unhappy about it—except for, as noticed by GamesRadar, one guy. And that one guy, well, he's thrilled.

Sea Of Stars' 8-hour epilogue expansion won't cost you a penny when the circus comes to town on May 20th

Whether it's reworked old classics you're after or fresh picks inspired by '90s gems, you don't have to look far for a good JRPG these days. While Clair Obscur might be stirring up discourse on whether a French game can carry the genre name, let's not forget the powerfully Québécois Sea Of Stars, which dropped back in 2023. It's gearing up and winding the clocks for an encore performance this month, and surprisingly, this hefty self-contained epilogue adventure is coming as a free update.

Once hidden in a Friday Night Funkin' fangame, surreal free exploration sandbox Garn47 gets a major makeover with the 'Glorgle update'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/once-hidden-in-a-friday-night-funkin-fangame-surreal-free-exploration-sandbox-garn47-gets-a-major-makeover-with-the-glorgle-update/
Oh dear, I'm writing a news story about Garn47, which means I now have to explain Garn47.
Okay, so hear me out: Garn47, developed by the largely mysterious solo developer/artist/musician Floombo (she wears many hats), is a very strange open world exploration sandbox that started out hidden in a Friday Night Funkin' fangame, but you can get it now direct on Itch free. It is deeply strange and you should try it. Ideally figure it out yourself. And if not, watch one of the many youtube videos trying to explain just what the hell is going on.
(...)
However it happened, Garn47 caught on and has been a regular fixture across many big Youtube channels. With development now Patreon-funded, major updates expand its strangely dreamlike story, giving a hungry community more secrets to hunt for and ARG-adjacent puzzles to solve. The latest release—the 'Glorgle Update', whatever that means—feels more like an overhaul. A new, more polished, slightly more accessible Garn.

Blizzard accidentally left a placeholder item in Diablo 4 and a couple of lucky players went god mode with it
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/blizzard-accidentally-left-a-placeholder-item-in-diablo-4-and-a-couple-of-lucky-players-went-god-mode-with-them/
It wouldn't be a new Diablo 4 season without someone figuring out how to deal so much damage the game can't compute it anymore. A couple of lucky players looted a pair of placeholder gloves and proceeded to go god mode with them, crushing the action RPG's hardest dungeons before Blizzard disabled them in an emergency patch.

Fallout 1 and 2's source code isn't lost after all, thanks to one hero programmer: 'I made it a quest to snapshot everything'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/fallout-1-and-2s-source-code-isnt-lost-after-all-thanks-to-one-hero-programmer-i-made-it-a-quest-to-snapshot-everything/
Tim Cain, lead developer of the original Fallout, recently lamented the loss of Fallout's earliest development materials. When he left Interplay he was told to delete his copies of early builds and even his notes from development meetings, and apparently Interplay has since lost not only the source code but also the original Fallout artwork and the clay models that were scanned to make the 3D talking heads some of its NPCs are blessed with.
Fortunately, it turns out Interplay cofounder and programmer Rebecca Heineman kept copies of the source code for Fallout 1 and 2, as she told VideoGamer.

Bungie's attempt to dismiss the Destiny 2 copyright case using YouTube videos describing 'vaulted' elements of the game has been shut down by a judge who is not going to sit through a 10-hour lore explainer
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/bungies-attempt-to-dismiss-the-destiny-2-copyright-case-using-youtube-videos-describing-vaulted-elements-of-the-game-has-been-shut-down-by-a-judge-who-is-not-going-to-sit-through-a-10-hour-lore-explainer/
In October of 2024 science-fiction writer Matthew Kelsey Martineau accused Bungie of lifting ideas for its first Destiny 2 campaign from a story published on his blog under the pseudonym Caspar Cole. While some of the ideas in question are fairly generic sci-fi elements, like consciousness transfer and the use of emergency failsafes to prevent disasters, both storylines involve groups called the "Red Legion" who use flamethrowers and trained hounds of war. It's entirely possible that's a coincidence, but Bungie is struggling to prove it since all the relevant parts of Destiny 2 are now unplayable and tucked away in the 'vault'.
(...)
While Bungie's always maintained that old Destiny 2 material is just sitting in the vault for now, when the lawsuit was filed it suddenly turned out that material in the vault couldn't be restored. The engine had been updated, and it simply wasn't possible to restore the Red War. Instead, Bungie insisted "the attached videos are the best possible way for the Court to review the accused work." The videos in question included, as Exhibit B, a 10-hour lore video put together by YouTuber MynameisByf. Exhibit C is a cutscene compilation, again put together by a fan, that's a mere two hours and 40 minutes long. As The Game Post reports, Judge Susie Morgan does not have time for that nonsense. When Bungie filed a motion to dismiss the case using only citations from the Destinypedia fan wiki and ridiculously long YouTube videos, the judge disregarded it.
"The Court will not consider the exhibits attached to Defendant's motion to dismiss and will not convert the Defendant's motion to dismiss to a motion for summary judgment," the decision went. "There has not been sufficient time for discovery, and the attachments are admittedly of third-party origination. Their authenticity has not been established."

Star-trekking sandbox roguelike Approaching Infinity launches after more than 12 years in development
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/roguelike/star-trekking-sandbox-roguelike-approaching-infinity-launches-after-more-than-12-years-in-development/
Us old-school rogue-likers are eating good. It feels like we've barely had time to digest the fantastic 'final' version of Caves Of Qud (there's more coming, of course), and already we've got another massive indie roguelike passion project to dive into. Approaching Infinity by micro-indie outfit Ibology has been in development for over twelve years now. It's a massive turn-based sandbox heavily inspired by classic Star Trek, and now freshly launched out of early access after many an update.

Inspired by Dwarf Fortress and Oxygen Not Included, adorable side-scrolling city-builder Ratopia burrows out of early access
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/city-builder/inspired-by-dwarf-fortress-and-oxygen-not-included-adorable-side-scrolling-city-builder-ratopia-burrows-out-of-early-access/
If you're in the market for a technical, complex city-builder sim, you're kinda spoilt for choice right now, but few games in the field can claim to be even half as cute as Ratopia, from Korean indie outfit Cassel Games. After a couple years scurrying around in early access, it's officially a complete game and out now on Steam. While I've yet to dig into it myself, I've had half an eye on this one for a while, as it seems to be drawing inspiration from all the best in the genre: Dwarf Fortress, Oxygen Not Included and Rimworld.

Tales of the Shire embraces a 'clutter-core experience' with grid-free decorating for your hobbit house
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/life-sim/tales-of-the-shire-embraces-a-clutter-core-experience-with-grid-free-decorating-for-your-hobbit-house/
Cozy Lord of the Rings life sim Tales of the Shire is embracing the comforting mess of Hobbiton by allowing players to decorate without being locked into a grid.
Currently slated for release on July 29, Tales of the Shire invites players to live the hobbit life in the village of Bywater, where they can garden, fish, cook, craft, and, of course, decorate. In a dev update posted on YouTube this weekend, the developers shared some new details about how decorating will work in the game, or rather how it won't work.

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/grand-theft-auto/you-cant-escape-us-devolver-plots-to-release-a-game-on-gta-6s-release-date-no-matter-when-that-is/
While every other publisher runs from the new GTA 6 release date, Devolver Digital is determined to have its own 'Doom Crossing' moment.
This weekend, Devolver shared a post on X in response to the Grand Theft Auto 6 release date announcement, with the ominous message, "You can't escape us. May 26, 2026 it is then."
This challenge was a follow-up to a post from back in March where Devolver casually vowed, "Gonna release a game the exact same day and time as GTA 6."

75,000 people are playing a fantasy football game where you guess the new pope: 'You have to choose 11 cardinals, the ones you think are the most papal'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/75-000-people-are-playing-a-fantasy-football-game-where-you-guess-the-new-pope-you-have-to-choose-11-cardinals-the-ones-you-think-are-the-most-papal/
On Wednesday, the College of Cardinals will be locked in the Sistine Chapel to decide who gets to be the next pope. It's called the Conclave, from the Latin for "with key", and it takes more than a hundred cardinal electors and multiple rounds of voting to decide who gets to be the new pontiff.
In the webgame Fantapapa, 75,000 people have cast their own votes in a kind of Catholic fantasy football. Players assemble a team of contenders they think are likely to win the vote. "You have to choose 11 cardinals," Fantapapa's co-creator Pietro Pace told Euro News, "the ones you think are the most papal."

In The Shadow Syndicate you're a dog detective who shoots people in bullet-time and wears a cursed ring
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/adventure/in-the-shadow-syndicate-youre-a-dog-detective-who-shoots-people-in-bullet-time-and-wears-a-cursed-ring/
In a world where we've had Chicken Police and Blacksad: Under the Skin and Duck Detective: The Secret Salami, the idea of playing an anthropomorphic animal who solves noirish crimes has stopped seeming all that strange. So the fact that The Shadow Syndicate has you play a private detective in a version of 1933 Brooklyn where all the people are dogs and cats and birds and frogs isn't that strange. What is strange is that you play a dog detective with a magical Sacrifice Ring that gives you supernatural abilities.
>> At least it’s a ring, not a collar.

This game has 100 endings, and it's pushing the creators to the brink of bankruptcy
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/this-game-has-100-endings-and-its-pushing-the-creators-to-the-brink-of-bankruptcy/
Some games are clear passion projects. Pure creative outlets, profitability be damned. The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy from Too Kyo Games (a collaborative outfit set up by the writers and directors of both the Danganronpa and Zero Escape franchises) is clearly among them.
Despite the game racking up plenty of positive reviews and seemingly selling well for a visual novel/turn-based tactics hybrid, studio CEO and Danganronpa writer Kazutaka Kodaka has been painting a bleak picture for the studio across several posts on Bluesky.

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion's power-suits will let you beat giant monsters to death with their own body parts
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/daemon-x-machina-titanic-scions-power-suits-will-let-you-beat-giant-monsters-to-death-with-their-own-body-parts/
There are few joys in videogames as pure as beating one bad guy to death with another bad guy. Upcoming mech-masher sequel Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion might be replacing its predecessor's Armored Core-esque mechs with more human-scaled power suits, but its potential for spectacular violence only seems to have increased.
In the new gameplay showcase trailer below, developers Marvelous break down just how much you can break down your enemies. Some of the damage type details are a little dry (use bullets on fleshy enemies, lasers on armored ones), but there's some juicy combat tidbits like tearing huge chunks off giant monsters and proceeding to bludgeon them with their own extremities. Brutal.

I'll believe it when I see it, but I really hope AMD manages to close the gap, especially when it comes to path tracing. In any case, Nvidia should still have an advantage as UDNA5 will face Nvidia's next generation, not Blackwell, and we don't know how much Nvidia will improve in that area.

Intel’s High-End Battlemage Arc B770 GPU Could Be Unveiled As Soon As Computex 2025, Could Compete With NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 Series

I hope Intel launches them. The more competition, the better, and the driver overhead issues should be less of a problem in that segment as people likely have better CPUs.

Please excuse my bad English.

I mean, AMD doesn't need to beat nVidia they just need to be "good enough" where the difference is irrelevant.

Case in point, their geometry throughput for Tessellation has never been able to beat nVidia's Polymorph engines, but the difference is so insignificant these days it's a pointless comparison.
They need to do the same with Ray Tracing, RDNA4 needs a little bit more refinement on the Ray Tracing side, but they are definitely going in the right direction.

The 9070 series is slowly creeping up in price, the 9070XT is double the price of the 7800XT now... Which sucks. Need an upgrade, but refuse to spend more than the price of a gaming console.

I been enjoying Oblivion Remastered. They did a very good job keeping all the charm of the original while upgrading the graphic. It rare I play a remake that both looks like a major upgrade graphically without losing any of what made the original feel special. I guessing they manage that because they somehow kept the original engine for handing gameplay while doing the graphic rendering using unreal engine 5.

I wonder is this something that been done before with remakes? I don't remember another case where 2 engines was use in the same game in this way but that might just be because I never paid enough attention.

I officially decided am going to keep using my 3090 until at least 60 series/udna 5 comes out. After I finish mowing my grass yesterday my allergies was killing me and thinking I could of spent last 2 hours playing Oblivion instead of being missable mowing my grass. I started doing some research and ended up taking the money that I had put aside for a 5090 and spending it on a MAMMOTION LUBA 2 AWD instead. Not really a gaming purchase but if things go as plan it will give me a extra 2 hours of gaming a week during the months grass need to be mowed so somewhat related.

The "Good enough" is where AMD is sitting at currently with RDNA4. Raytracing performance is good enough to keep up with NVidia without performance dropping like a rock, FSR4 is good enough to not see a difference between it and DLSS anymore, and so on. While AMD doesn't beat NVidia with their technologies, just keeping up with the competition also means you lack any killer or "must buy" features.

As for 9070 prices, are those really that high outside of Europe? Here the bigger issue is availability, as they are often lacking stock, especially the non-XT versions, but when they are available, the prices are okay-ish (630-700€ for the 9070,760-830€ for the 9070XT), certainly better than the 5070Ti and 5080 (850-980€ and 1149-1439€ respectively), but with the 5070 widely available for 599€, either can be a tough sell for people who don't need (or think they don't need) 16GB VRAM.
