Everyone and their mother wants to move away ASAP from Huang's insanely priced hardware. The thing is, they will want to replace Tesla GPUs with their own in-house product, not AMD's alternative.

And that's assuming generative AI proves to be a viable product, an AI winter soon due to diminishing returns in LLMs would screw AMD all the same. Nvidia too, but at least they'd have gaming to fall back into.

So, it doesn't matter what they do, they can't win. Yeah, it sucks to be AMD right now.

I mean, look at Intel's revenue, it's way way higher than Nvidia's. AMD is competing for the server and professional CPU market, which isn't going anywhere.

The margins are smaller since that's a mature market but still.

The great party game Sportsfriends is now free on all platforms, because the studio behind it says it's 'not in a position to support or update it' anymore
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sports/the-great-party-game-sportsfriends-is-now-free-on-all-platforms-because-the-studio-behind-it-says-its-not-in-a-position-to-support-or-update-it-anymore/
Sportsfriends is a collection of multiplayer party games released in 2014 by indie studio Die Gut Fabrik. It's an oddball thing, but also really good: We rated it as one of the best local multiplayer games on PC a few years after it came out, calling it "intense, entertaining, and varied." And with its 10th anniversary now looming, the studio has decided to make it fully free on Steam and every other platform where it's available.
It's not just a birthday celebration: Sportsfriends producer Doug Wilson said the decision came in part because "we're not in a position to support or update Sportsfriends moving forward," a situation presumably brought about by Die Gut Fabrik's recent troubles: Earlier this year, the studio "halted production" after it was unable to find funding for its next project.

'My kids weren't born yet, and now they're in primary school learning how to make their own games': Game Dev Tycoon studio head talks taking 10 years to make his upcoming inn sim, Tavern Keeper
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/life-sim/my-kids-werent-born-yet-and-now-theyre-in-primary-school-learning-how-to-make-their-own-games-game-dev-tycoon-studio-head-talks-taking-10-years-to-make-his-upcoming-inn-sim-tavern-keeper/
Game Dev Tycoon, a fun little management game about running a development studio that went viral in the early 2010s, turns 11 years old in August—an age it'll reach around the time its creators, Greenheart Games, are ready to send their next title into early access.
That's a long old time, even by game development standards. I recently had a chance to sit down at a roundtable with the studio's director and manager Patrick Klug to get an early peek into Tavern Keeper.

Helldivers 2 player encounters a bug that gives them infinite gas, and haven't we all been there?
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/helldivers-2-player-encounters-a-bug-that-gives-them-infinite-gas-and-havent-we-all-been-there/
We've all at some point encountered a bug that gives us what feels like infinite gas, typically after spending time around small children or eating a dodgy kebab. One Helldivers 2 player had a much more extreme effluvial experience while battling the Terminid scourge, suffering a case of infinite gas so bad that it ultimately killed them.

A Warzone collaboration with Fallout was leaked showing rugged operators dressed up like vault dwellers, but it may have missed the mark

A couple of files for an upcoming collaboration between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Warzone, and Fallout have leaked, and so far, the reaction hasn't been too positive. But all I can question is how many times Activision is going to dress Captain Price up before they just leave him be.

In this brutal Lovecraftian survival game, my entire village was wiped out in the time it took you to read this sentence

The goal is pretty clearly stated in the title of survival settlement builder The Tribe Must Survive, but so far my tribe can't survive, at least for very long. My current record is just 17 days before I goof something up, my campfire goes out, and everyone is dragged off into the woods but whatever the hell those things are lurking in the darkness.
It's brutal but I kinda like it. I've never seen a Lovecraftian take on the Stone Age, and I've never played a settlement-builder where the end can come so swiftly and surely. (...)

Valorant boss announces new measures to crack down on toxic players, with harsh words for the worst offenders: 'We won't miss you'

Private Division has canceled a deal for Bloober Team's unannounced survival horror 'Project C', but the mystery game from the Silent Hill 2 remakers might not be dead yet
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/horror/private-division-has-canceled-a-deal-for-bloober-teams-unannounced-survival-horror-project-c-but-the-mystery-game-from-the-silent-hill-2-remakers-might-not-be-dead-yet/
Private Division, Take Two Interactive's indie publishing label, has canceled a deal with Polish developer Bloober Team to publish a survival horror game known only as Project C.
(...)
The deal for Project C was originally signed by the two parties in September 2021, but it seemingly included a clause by which Take Two could cancel the agreement 'without giving any reason'. It appears the publisher has now put this into effect.  As pointed out by Mauro, this isn't the first time Take Two has enacted such a clause either. Two years ago, it terminated a similar agreement with People Can Fly for a game known as Project Dagger.
(...)
The termination of the deal doesn't necessarily mean the end for the mysterious Project C, however. The press release notes that Bloober Team "took such a scenario into account and are prepared for potential alternatives" which includes the possibility of finding a new publisher. In any case, work on Project C is continuing for the time being.

Broken Roads, the wonky Aussie Fallout, receives a major update that lets you pet koalas and explains the meaning of sex trophies
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/broken-roads-the-wonky-aussie-fallout-receives-a-major-update-that-lets-you-pet-koalas-and-explains-the-meaning-of-sex-trophies/
I quite liked Broken Roads when I reviewed it in April. Its Aussie take on the post-apocalypse was rich and characterful, and I admired its attempt to ground your in- game choices in real moral philosophy. But there's no question that it was a wonky experience, with a world that often felt fragmentary, a confusing questing system, tedious combat, and an abrupt ending.
Since launch, developer Drop Bear Bytes has been working to address the game's problems, dropping a new patch earlier today that makes some substantial changes. This includes fixes to a couple of problems that particularly bugged me during the review.

The new Helldivers 2 major order has some major issues, as the super colony of Meridia proves a little too super
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/the-new-helldivers-2-major-order-has-some-major-issues-as-the-super-colony-of-meridia-proves-a-little-too-super/
The same dark fluid that spaghettified some scientists in Helldivers 2 is now being used to obliterate a Terminid supercolony, as per the most recent major order. However, there's a problem—the bespoke dark fluid missions are, uh, they're really hard. Cruel, even. And I don't mean hard in a "git gud" or "just play a lower difficulty" way, I mean in the way where something's clearly gone wrong.

And these are the GOG and Steam deals for the weekend:

+GOG

+Steam

That’s all for this week. Until the next time, I wish you a happy and gaming weekend.

If those specs are true, it will be interesting to see how Zen5 performs. The clock bump is minimal, so any gains will have to come from the new architecture. At least AMD seems to have learned from Intel's and have decided to keep power consumption at bay, with only the higher one keeping the same TDP.

And if the TDP is kept in place, maybe the X3D chips won't have to ship with lower clocks this time and there won't be a trade off between productivity and gaming capabilities. That would be great.

My first experience was with Quake and what I learned from it was that I liked the genre... but I suffer from motion sickness . I still played it, but only in bursts of 30 minutes or so before having to take a rest. Not the best way to play it.

Things have improved with time, but it's on a game per game basis. For example, I played the new Wolfenstein games without a problem, but the demo of DOOM 2016 was very unpleasant.  That's why I don't risk it and don't buy a game unless I've been able to try it with a demo or a free weekend.
