Hi people, am I the only one having this problem of not being able to take screenshots on certain games on Steam (and not being able to display the overlay). Everything works fine on Tekken 8 and Horizon Forbidden West but on The Witcher 3 and Gears 5, I can't display the overlay and therefore can't take screenshots. I've checked whether the overlay is enabled in the Steam options and it is...

If F12 (Steam-Screenshot) doesn't work, I use the Windows-Print-Shortcut.

Steam-Screenshot with Steam Deck: Steam-Button + R1

so probably Steam-Screenshot with PlayStation-Controller: PS-Button + R1

SALES /PLAYER COUNT & DEALS

Steam smash hit Content Warning has sold over 700,000 copies after giving away 6 million free copies
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/horror/steam-smash-hit-content-warning-has-sold-over-700000-copies-after-giving-away-6-million-free-copies/
I imagine all game developers get butterflies in their stomachs when they're about to push their game live, but it's not often a game previously given away for free suddenly starts asking for money. That was the deal indie studio Landfall made with players when it surprise-released Content Warning on April Fools' day.
The Lethal Company-like horror game that challenges friends to record scary videos and go viral on SpöökTube would be free to claim for its first 24 hours, after which Landfall would start charging $8. Over six million copies of Content Warning were claimed during the free period, a response that Landfall CEO Wilhelm Nylund tells PC Gamer was "completely unlike anything" they've experienced.
(...)
Those six million day one copies blew Landfall's biggest expectations out of the water, but it also made the team slightly nervous that nobody would be interested in picking it up once the $8 price tag kicked in.
(...)
In its first day, Content Warning sold over 100,000 copies, "multiple times more" copies than Landfall has ever sold in a day. The next day, it did even better: 125,000 copies. Within a week, it cracked 700,000. Now almost two weeks later, Content Warning still sits comfortably in Steam's top sellers list by revenue, at times beating out Call of Duty, Destiny, and Apex Legends.
>> And now they’re giving you the chance to go viral.

Steam is about to have a big sale on shooters of the first-person variety
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/steam-is-about-to-have-a-big-sale-on-shooters-of-the-first-person-variety/
Third-person shooters? You can keep 'em. Unless they have an option to also be played in the first-person, in which case I guess they might be included in the Steam FPS Fest, a sale on games of the Doom clone variety that will be kicking off on April 15.
Some of the games due to be discounted during the sale include Squad, RoboCop: Rogue City, Trepang2, Rust, Verdun, Ravenfield, Killbug, and Far Cry 6. It's a pretty wide selection, including recent hits and remakes as well as a few classics of the genre. Even Depth, the game where you can play as a shark or one of a team of divers trying to take them down, will be on sale.
>> It will run from Monday, 15th, to the 22nd.

The Humble Store has launched the Pioneers & Builders Sale, with up to 95% discounts during the next 6 days: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/promo/pioneers-builders-sale/.

Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 just got a new HD Texture Pack that overhauls over 890 textures
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/brothers-in-arms-road-to-hill-30-just-got-a-new-hd-texture-pack-that-overhauls-over-890-textures/
Modder ‘FCH823’ has released a new HD Texture Pack for Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 that overhauls over 890 textures. This is a must for everyone who wants to replay this classic Brothers in Arms game.
To overhaul the game’s textures, the modder used AI tools. Most textures have been upscaled x4, whereas some of the lower-resolution textures have been upscaled x8.
Going into slightly more details, this pack overhauls the textures for characters, weapons, vehicles, buildings, foliage and more. Basically, all textures have been overhauled. Not only that but the modder has remade from scratch the 101st airborne shoulder patches.

Friday news, the second part:

'The matches will be sillier': Overwatch 2's competitive changes for season 10 will finally let you play with that one friend who's been stuck in bronze since 2016
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/the-matches-will-be-sillier-overwatch-2s-competitive-changes-for-season-10-will-finally-let-you-play-with-that-one-friend-whos-been-stuck-in-bronze-since-2016/
The latest developer update for Overwatch 2 saw Gavin Winter, senior systems designer, explain some of the biggest changes coming in season 10, and one of them will hopefully help you help that one friend who can't seem to get out of bronze.

'Devs are getting ground up as collateral damage': Fallout: New Vegas lead says burnout has replaced crunch as 'the primary hazard of the game industry'
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/devs-are-getting-ground-up-as-collateral-damage-fallout-new-vegas-lead-says-burnout-has-replaced-crunch-as-the-primary-hazard-of-the-game-industry/
Crunch (imposing long periods of major overtime to meet a deadline) has been a major spectre in the games' industry since its inception, though particularly in the past few years, with developers at several studios including Rockstar, CD Projekt, Telltale and more reporting absurd expectations from their higher-ups.
That's not to say short periods of crunch are inherently a sign that something's gone wrong—racing to beat a deadline is common in a lot of creative industries, and sometimes it's self-imposed out of passion for the project. It is, however, a thing to be avoided—and several of those aforementioned studios have sworn off relying on crunch to solve their problems.
But it's far from the only issue developers are facing, especially in an industry that's been incredibly brutal as of late. Industry vet Josh Sawyer, studio design director at Obsidian (Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity) commented on the issue via a tweet responding to a GameDeveloper article on the subject yesterday (thanks, GamesRadar)

I had a peek at Remnant 2's newly-announced second DLC: The Forgotten Kingdom, which fleshes out the forests of Yaesha with gorgeous vistas and machine gun pottery
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/i-had-a-peek-at-remnant-2s-newly-announced-second-dlc-the-forgotten-kingdom-which-fleshes-out-the-forests-of-yaesha-with-gorgeous-vistas-and-machine-gun-pottery/
Remnant 2 still has a special place in my heart (...)
It's also been getting DLC that's fleshed out the world considerably. The Awakened King, the game's first expansion, was a great time—but it also made the base game better, too. (...)
The Forgotten Kingdom carries on this sound strategy by fleshing out the world of Yaesha, a verdant jungle infested by the big bad Root and filled with Satyrs. I was kindly given a hands-off sneak peek with developers Ben Cureton (principal designer) and Cindy To (principal level designer).

Disney Speedstorm community up in arms as premium pass can no longer be earned through gameplay: Starting with the next season, if you want it you'll have to pay for it
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/racing/disney-speestorm-community-up-in-arms-as-premium-pass-can-no-longer-be-earned-through-gameplay-starting-with-the-next-season-if-you-want-it-youll-have-to-pay-for-it/
The Disney Speedstorm community is in a bit of an uproar following a change to the pricing of the game's battle pass. The Golden Pass, as it's formally called, could previously be acquired using Tokens that can be earned via gameplay, but beginning with the upcoming season 7, that option is out, and it will only be available for a real-money purchase of $10.

The Fallout 4 next-gen update announced in 2022 will finally be out later this month
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/the-fallout-4-next-gen-update-announced-in-2022-will-finally-be-out-later-this-month/
Hot on the heels of the very good Fallout television series on Amazon, Fallout 4 is getting a bunch of new features, fixes, and content courtesy of a big "next gen" update that's set to go live on April 25.

Slay the Spire 2 ditched Unity for open-source engine Godot after over 2 years of development
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/card-games/slay-the-spire-2-ditched-unity-for-open-source-engine-godot-after-2-years-of-development/
I didn't learn about open-source game engine Godot until last year, when its profile was raised by an extraordinary fumble from commercial game engine Unity. Now Godot is being used to make Slay the Spire 2, which instantly became one of my most highly anticipated games when it was announced this week.

After winning every major Game of the Year award in 2023, Baldur's Gate 3 is now cleaning up in 2024 too
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/after-winning-every-major-game-of-the-year-award-in-2023-baldurs-gate-3-is-now-cleaning-up-in-2024-too/
We said in January that Baldur's Gate 3 had completed its Game of the Year sweep by claiming the top honor in the 2023 Steam Awards. What we did not anticipate is that it would continue kicking ass through 2024. Maybe we should have been a little more forward-thinking on that one, because Larian's D&D RPG just claimed the Best Game title, and four others, at the 2024 BAFTA Awards.

Blizzard is afraid of spoiling Diablo 4 seasons with regular PTRs, but says the success of season 4's 'does point in the direction of something we'd want to continue to do'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/diablo-4-future-ptr-season-rod-fergusson/
By all accounts, including my own, Diablo 4's season 4 PTR, or public test realm, was a big success: an exciting, week-long peek into all the massive changes coming to the game next month. Blizzard seems to think so too: Diablo 4 boss Rod Fergusson told IGN that the PTR had a high enough turnout that the team will consider hosting early playtests for future seasons, too.

Helldivers 2's new Eruptor gun is a beast: basically a support stratagem, but as a primary weapon
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/helldivers-2-eruptor-news/
The R-36 Eruptor is a hell of a democracy spreader.
Available in Helldivers 2's new Democratic Detonation Warbond, the Erputor is a primary weapon that fires "jet-assisted shells" which explode on impact, and can destroy fabricators, bug nests, gunships, tanks, and other vehicles and structures. Basically, it packs the power of a support weapon stratagem like the Anti-Materiel Rifle, but in a primary gun.

The PC system requirements for long-awaited Manor Lords city-building smorgasbord are mercifully modest
https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/the-pc-system-requirements-for-long-awaited-manor-lords-city-building-smorgasbord-are-mercifully-modest/
It's been in the works for years. It's been wishlisted by millions of Steam gamers. It's finally out on April 26th. And now the full system requirements for Manor Lords, everyone's most wanted city-building smorgasbord, have been released. And, huzzah, they're mostly very modest indeed.
>> They’re really low, maybe even too low.

I'm sorry but yes, here's the third part of today's news:

All Genshin Impact codes from the 4.6 livestream
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/genshin-impact-codes-4-6-livestream/
The Genshin Impact 4.6 livestream codes are here once again. These regular Primogem bonuses give you a little bump when pulling for characters in each new version, whether that's brand new five-stars, or reruns of older favourites. Hell, you might even be trying to unlock constellations on a character you already have, in which case, good luck to you!

'We try not to make it painful, except when it comes to skill': Remnant 2 design leads talk adding player-driven QoL features, and the task of making a player-friendly soulslike
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/we-try-not-to-make-it-painful-except-when-it-comes-to-skill-remnant-2-design-leads-talk-adding-player-driven-qol-features-and-the-task-of-making-a-player-friendly-soulslike/
Despite the praise I have for it now, Remnant 2's launch wasn't pitch-perfect (...)
At the time, I remember being impressed by the pace of these updates. It's always difficult for a dev to suss out fair complaints from gripes—especially in a game like Remnant 2, that's meant to be difficult. Gunfire Games, however, seemed to pull it off pretty tidily.
Talking with both principal designer Ben Cureton and principal level designer Cindy To during a preview of the game's upcoming DLC earlier this week, I had a chance to ask them about the process of doing just that—starting with the team's reactivity to builds the player base has discovered.

Ubisoft is stripping people's licences for The Crew weeks after its shutdown, nearly squandering hopes of fan servers and acting as a stark reminder of how volatile digital ownership is
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/racing/ubisoft-is-stripping-peoples-licences-for-the-crew-weeks-after-its-shutdown-nearly-squandering-hopes-of-private-servers-and-acting-as-a-stark-reminder-of-how-volatile-digital-ownership-is/
The downside of digital ownership has reared its ugly head for enjoyers of Ubisoft's open-world multiplayer racer The Crew. The publisher has revoked its licence for those who owned it on Ubisoft Connect, almost destroying fan ambitions to revive the game in both an offline and online format.
The Crew was pulled from sale back in December, with Ubisoft revealing that the servers would be shut down at the beginning of April. Frustratingly, despite a large portion of the game being doable in singleplayer, The Crew remained an online-only endeavour throughout its decade-long lifespan. That had already rendered the game unplayable, but it seems Ubisoft is determined to take things one step further to stamp out any attempts to continue playing it past its expiry date.
Fans began to notice earlier in the week that the licence to the game had been snatched away from them. A message at the top of the game's library page reads "You no longer have access to this game. Why not check the Store to pursue your adventures?" It's also been moved to its own individual section in player libraries, listed under "inactive games". Apparently booting the game directly from the installation directory will still launch the game, but only in a demo mode.
(...)
It's worth noting that it appears you can technically still download the game on Steam, but any attempt to play is followed-up with a request to input a game key
>> Ubisoft is really trying hard to win the “most hated video game company” award. I’m sure this will help them sell more games.

Japanese indie dev tells randoms begging for keys and offering exposure to 'buy it, you piece of garbage'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/roguelike/japanese-indie-dev-tells-randoms-begging-for-keys-and-offering-exposure-to-buy-it-you-piece-of-garbage/
I'll never get tired of a well-phrased "go screw yourself" from an indie dev (...)
Another such gem has come from the developers behind the upcoming Japanese roguelike Machina of the Planet Tree: Mugen Ourokaku, a game which scans as a hack-'n'-slash take on Risk of Rain, but with a skimpily-clad catgirl by the name of Retla Stoltein as the protagonist.
(...)
Sharing previews of the game on Twitter has drawn some attention, and with attention comes droves of strangers asking for keys, promises of 'we'll pay you in exposure!' in hand. While giving keys to individual influencers certainly isn't uncommon for devs, there's a pretty substantial underbelly of key-hunters looking to flog them on resale websites, so indie developers are often bombarded.
In a recent FAQ spotted by Automaton, Housenka responded to a hypothetical of "I'll promote you, give me a Steam key" with a delightfully blunt: "Buy it, you piece of garbage." Or, as Automaton translates it from the original Japanese, "Buy the game, you piece of sh*t." I can't decide which I like better, honestly. The full FAQ is worth a read, if only for Housenka's sense of humour and an insight into the absurd questions independent devs get asked these days.

And now, the GOG and Steam deals for the weekend:

+GOG

+Steam

That’s all I had to share with you. Until next time, I wish you a happy and gaming weekend.

Apparently, the first Ryzen 9000 chips have been tested in Cinebench R24, and if these results are to be believed, Intel is gonna be in a rough spot:

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X CPU tested: Zen 5 chip is 46% faster in Cinebench R24 than Ryzen 9 7950X (tweaktown.com)

Around 170 singlecore where the 7950X reached just 120 and even the 14900K only 136, and then 3000 multicore, which is miles above even the 14900K. In fact, the 14900K would only equal the 12c/24t 9900X.

If these results are anywhere near true, then AMD will crush Intel with Zen 5.

The "H" key on my sisters Alienware laptop fell off. So I contacted Dell warranty since it expires in Summer. They are like, we are gonna send down a tech to fix it. I was like wtf since it's just an H key. So the tech came and he said, due to the way that the keyboard is integrated into the laptop, he has to undo the plastic base and replace the entire keyboard at once.

Like wtf lol

Instead of a 5 second replacement, it's gonna take an hour

And probably costs as much as a replacement laptop. But hey, since it's still under warranty, that's their problem...
