Welcome to the world of PC gaming 2021 where there's a shortage on just about everything... T_T

Yeah it's rather depressing. Not that you can get a ps5 either, nor Series X here.
32GB ram gaming laptops start are CAD 2,000 here, 2,400 to get a worthwhile GPU upgrade with it.

Anyway, more RAM should help a lot! Flying over Madrid on my current laptop

DF did their Control on PS5 video:

And the PC setting the PS5 was using is as follows at 1440p 30fps:

In the video, he also says there are a few settings that's lower than low on PC. He also got those settings straight from the devs. Now if you do watch the video and these settings may not seem like much... The one impressive thing that the video (as well as other videos) showcases is that even with Ray Tracing on low settings, it can make a night and day difference compared to screen space reflections.

I just tried these settings (custom = low) with my 3070 and it ran with 80 - 90 fps in most areas, still over 70 fps in heavier firefights. Then I turned DLSS on with these settings and it ran with 120 - 140 fps in most areas, still over 105 fps in heavier firefights.

And I also wonder why they settle for medium textures on PS5. Textures don't use performance, only video memory... with 16 GB unified RAM, there should be enough for ultra texdtures (or at least high textures).

Yea that is pretty weird. I am waiting for their console comparisons to see if the Series X/S has any difference in texture quality cause yea, it really doesn't make much sense with textures.

In other news, we may have found AMD response to Nvidia's DLSS or, at least, the hardware for it:

AMD files a new patent for a chiplet-based Machine Learning Accelerator design
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/amd-files-a-new-patent-for-a-chiplet-based-machine-learning-accelerator-design/
It appears that AMD has recently filed and published a new patent titled “Chiplet-integrated Machine Learning Accelerators”, in which techniques for performing machine learning operations are outlined. AMD describes what the company calls a new MLA (Machine Learning Accelerator) chiplet design.

The patent application is for a machine-learning chiplet, which is going to be integrated into a package coupled with GPU cores as well as the cache, in order to create an “APD” or Accelerated Processing Device in AMD’s terminology. GPU cores here might refer to the upcoming RDNA 3 architecture, and the cache unit most likely being a version of AMD’s Infinity Cache design, if taken as an example.

It's either for that, or for AI for the compute variants of their cards.

Yea, RDNA3 is more realistically when I'd expect AMD to actually start competing against Nvidia with the more next gen features like Ray Tracing and DLSS. Hopefully this accelerator does come to their consumer chips and they make software for it as well.

If the patent only came out now, then it's probably way too late for RDNA3, which should be close to tape-out by now. Unless of course it's been a while since AMD applied for that patent, then it's quite possible to be part of RDNA3.

So maybe it will make it? And if it's a chiplet design similar to how their CPUs work, it shouldn't be too hard to add it in. It's the software that might take a while to get optimized though.

Possible. Could be too late, but also just squeeze in. It's a bit of a toss-up depending on how far the basic design had advanced and the willingness to throw it overboard for a chiplet design.

Don't forget current console comparisons are still without resizable BAR. Can't wait for that to drop this month.

The game is optimised better on Nvidia cards. On desktop Ampere cards stomp the 6000 series cards in this game. And when you factor in mid tier GPU's.. and RT having a heavy impact on performance on RDNA 2, the devs at Remedy will have drop settings keep FPS at a playable level.

But yeah, not a very good look on this on console. The 60fps mode is probably the better choice here.

The Super Nintendo World theme park is under construction in Minecraft
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-super-nintendo-world-theme-park-is-under-construction-in-minecraft/
Unless you're currently living in Japan, your chances of heading to the new Super Nintendo World park when it opens on February 4 are pretty darn slim. But thanks to a group of creative Minecrafters, the park can soon be experienced from the comfort of your own home.
Planet Minecraft's Dippy22 has been working on a 1:1 faithful recreation of the upcoming Super Nintendo World Japan park. It's not fully finished yet, currently sitting at around 45% completion, according to the Planet Minecraft page (thanks PCGamesN.)
Areas like Toad's cafe, Peach's castle, and the Mario and Luigi Meet and Greet have been built. While it's not quite ready to be visited by the masses right now, Dippy provided an update on January 28, which says they hope to soon open the server for previews.

Fashion-wrestling RPG Bravery Network Online releases in Early Access this month

Bravery Network Online, a stylish RPG where you can unbutton your shirt for massive damage, is coming to Steam early access this month.
Revealed at the PC Gaming Show all the way back in 2018, Bravery Network is a nod to the competitive Pokémon scene—albeit one where instead of a lightning rat punching a dragon, you're pitting 5-man squads of impeccably dressed fighters against each other.

Apex Legends could get Fortnite-style game-changing live events someday
https://www.pcgamer.com/apex-legends-could-get-fortnite-style-game-changing-live-events-someday/
Apex Legends is an excellent battle royale, but one thing it doesn't offer (that some of its competitors do) is live events that actually change the course of the game. When Fortnite's Marvel themed season 4 came to a Galactus-fueled finish, for instance, the whole thing wrapped up in a big-ass in-game event; by comparison, the arrival of Fuse in Apex Legends and all the changes it wrought unfolded entirely through cinematic trailers like the one up above.

Lady Dimitrescu is 9'6" and that's an official Capcom fact
https://www.pcgamer.com/lady-dimitrescu-is-96-and-thats-an-official-capcom-fact/
Lady Dimitrescu, the tall lady from Resident Evil Village, is officially tall. After a few weeks of fan speculation regarding how tall Lady Dimitrescu is (is her seeming tallness born of an awkward camera perspective? Is her seeming tallness a result of her witches being short?) Capcom has issued some important clarification: She's tall to the tune of 2.9 metres. That's about nine feet, six inches.

Bungie has announced Season of the Chosen, the next chapter of Destiny 2's Beyond Light era, due out next week on February 9.
The headline feature this time around is Battlegrounds, a new three-player matchmade activity featuring ritual combat against Cabal warriors under the command of Empress Caiatl, daughter of our ol' pal Calus. Three new (or, at least, "new") Strikes are planned, too. The Devil's Lair and Fallen SABER Strikes—both from the original, console-only Destiny—will go live at the season's launch, with the actually new Proving Grounds Strike due later in the season.
