They don't have to push it into next year for that to happen. They can just release it and you buy it when you get the 3050ti maybe even save some money and get it at a discount.

I'm just wondering what the headline will be for a 3080Ti, seeing how small the actual practical performance between a regular 3080 and a 3090. That's a really narrow gap. Aren't Ti versions historically at least about 15% faster? I seem to remember my 980Ti being a great deal better than its dad. It would have to outpace a 3080 with a decent margin for it to have any right to exist, but it can't very well beat the 3090 or even perform on the same level as it would lower the 3090's value proposition relative to the rest of the series. Alternately; the price the shit out of it and create artificial price points for minuscule performance increases compared to the lighter cards, which could go wrong if AMD prices their cards competitively (which they likely will). Damn, this is some intense shit.
I'm guessing it will slot right in the middle. 3090 is around 10-11% faster on average over the 3080. So maybe 5-6% on average and price it $200-300 higher ($900-$1000) and put it up against the 6900XT. With more VRAM than a regular 3080 it should at least be a bit more future proofed for a few more years. There's not much they can do with the 8nm Samsung node and architecture in terms of pushing performance. They are already pushing these cards to the limit and going way above the efficiency threshold.
I think they are waiting for AMD to show their lineup first and then they'll think of a strategy on how to counter their cards in each segment.
