Forums - Gaming - Does the PS4 have Extra power for no Reason? (Like PS3)

Also the PS4 will be a lot easier to develop games for than the PS3.

PS4 games will have to be 1.2 TFlops to look the same as Xbox One games...since the PS4 can do 1.8 it should not be hard to look the same....Any PS4 games that do 1.5 Tflops or more should look better than Xbox One games..

My buddy who doesn't even play video games recognizes that PS3 exclusives look better than 360 exclusives. Not sure what you're seeing.

the 50% faster GPU and 2 gb more and faster RAM for games will at least sound impressive to most consumers, especially with that lower price.

Did you already talk up the PS3 to your buddy? Just asking because someone who has no knowledge on a subject will be easily influenced to think something is better just because somebody else had that opinion.

@B: That will not sound impressive to the normal person though. Obviously, I can't speak on behalf of the world but I have been playing games since Genesis and been visiting game sites for a while now, and have no clue what that means. I guarantee without a doubt, nobody in my family will either. The GP will not only not understand what it means but they will also not care.

The power difference will be even greater next gen than last. PS3 seldom had better looking games, most noticeably multiplats which most of the time ran better on 360. That was due to the difficulty of the PS3's architecture. PS4 looks to, if not be easier to develop for, be as easy as it gets to develop for, allowing the power to actually be utilized. With the hardware similarities between X1 and PS4 it shouldn't be hard for devs to tweek up the graphics on PS4, or should I say tweek them down to X1 as PS4 will probably be the target hardware.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

For multiplayer games I doubt the PS4 will the traget hardware..I can't wait to compare The Divison next winter....

What? No. His brother has an Xbox 360 and he has watched him play it numerous times. He Sometimes watches me and another buddy play PS3. He came to the conclusion on his own. If he only believed it because i told him it was the case, I wouldn't have used him as an example. That would be moronic.

50% more powerful doesn't sound impressive to the average person? You don't need to know anything about technology to realize that when something is 50% better than something else, it's a big difference. I have very little faith in the GP's intelligence, but even I think most people can comprehend and appreciate that when something is 50% better, it's significant.

As long as exclusives can use it of course it doesn't have it for no reason. So far we can't tell any of this because it's not out yet so we will have to see if 3rd parties will push the hardware.

Here's a chart of Crysis 3 running 2560x1600 with different graphics cards.  The GTX680 is 3.0TFlops while the Radeon HD 6870 is 2.7TFlops.  A 10% difference in power, yet the GTX680 pushes 24fps while the 6970 only pushes out 12fps.  10% difference and the framerate is half on the weaker card.  On medium settings, it's not quite half the FPS, but it's close, 79fps over 43fps.

So when the consoles are running pretty much the exact same specs with a different, more powerful graphics card, and better memory,I think it's safe to say that what you see on paper does matter.

It will matter eventually. The 360 has kept up with the PS3 somewhat easily because of issues like development. Later in the Gen, games looked great on the PS3 though with the 360 still keeping up. The PS4 will not have that issue and we should see differences between exclusives within a few years.

For experiences like Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, and The Last of Us. Things you don't see on the competitors machine.

you forgot God of War III...
