Keep playing Madden 2012 he meant.
| EricFabian said: It's no big secret that Electronic Arts all but abandoned the Wii U a few months ago - a decision that went very public when an EA programmer went on a mult-tweet rant about Nintendo via Twitter. While the game developer/publisher has no current plans to work on anything for Nintendo's 8-month-old gaming console, they say there's not looking to end support for those who play its previously-released games (Madden NFL 13 in specific) on it. "We don't have any plans on turning off the off switch," states Thomas Singleton, a Producer at EA Sports. |
This is what finally pushed me over the edge with hating EA. I really like some of their developers, but MAN their corporate business culture is attrocious.
Between Nintendo rejecting Origin and the PS4/ XB1 launches, I can understand them not wanting to make Wii U games. But the professional reaction is to say "we aren't making Wii U games at the moment" or even better to focus on the positive "we are focusing on the PS4/ XB1 launch libraries at the moment." Making it a public issue like this with a twitter just to bash on Nintendo can only be a deliberate attempt to hurt Wii U sales and, by extension, an attempt to hurt Nintendo's stock price. In other words, corporate retribution.
That's not the worst business ettiquite I've seen, but it's definitely up there.
The irony is that EA's just hurting themselves with this one. I absolutely despise the Madden. Google "LordKat Rants Madden 2011" (Warning: NSFW for language) and you'll see a half-hour rant I mostly agree with. I've only played it a few times and even I can tell you that the Wii U's gamepad will stand head and shoulders above the horrible menus for the console versions. My intuition is that that's why the Wii U version has been cancelled. It would make the competition look horrible because Nintendo made a great product...and EA can't stand the thought of showcasing Nintendo's great product.
Do we cut our nose off to spite our face?
This sounds a little familiar to Microsoft's "you can keep playing your 360" comment the other week. That was widely derided.
Naturally as this is EA and Nintendo, it will be dubbed a good business decision.

Can't everyone just do the same thing, regardless of their system though?

I felt the same thing when I read that statement. And since this is tied with Nintendo, the majority will not notice the similarity... -_-'

Actually they might be good at sports if they don't buy sports games and do real sport instead, something that PS360 gamers should do too for the sake of this industry and their own.

Or they already bought the game when it released 5 months prior to the Wii U launch, complete with EA's new emotion engine. Is anyone really that shocked that people said, "Rather than drop $60 on a rushed/incomplete launch title, I'll just wait the 6 months for them to release a FULL version."? Unfortunately, Wii U owners weren't expecting EA to respond with, "You don't want to pay full price for half a game? Now you get NO game!"

Truth was told here.
Haven't bought a FIFA game since 2009 and don't feel need to buy any of the more recent games.

EA always screw the pooch on sports games for new hardware, regardless of manufacturer.

We get punished for not wasting our money on a year-old game sold at Day 1 prices (Madden 13 Wii U is really Madden 12, people). Just like we get punished for not wasting our money on a half-year old game sold at Day 1 prices when that same game was packaged with it's two previous entries in the series and sold at the same price or cheaper, and available at the same time on other systems (Mass Effect 3). So basically, EA's message here is that it doesn't like smart consumers. Fine with me. There are plenty of other firms in this industry I'll be glad to give my money to. When you release a game you put effort into, I'll buy it, like I did with Need For Speed U. Until then, EA, I'll just wait until the turds and piece of shit efforts you call ports hit the clearance rack.
