there's also the fact that the more time Nintendo has to reduce manufacturing costs, the better.

My idea would be to drop the price to $ 250 rather than just to $ 300, but doing it next year alongside Smash and Mario Kart, so to give the platform a more meaningful and lasting effect. Striking while the iron is hot, so to speak, with a combined effect within a small time frame to get the full attention of consumers.

If you drop the price now or for the holidays, then by this time next year the new price is old news, and another $ 50 price cut then wouldn't be as significant as the first one. And Microsoft and Sony will definitely be more agressive next year in terms of pricing and bundles as more of their key releases appear, so the competition will be much stronger then.

I never really took manufacturing costs into consideration so nice point there. It would probably help Nintendo a lot from a business standpoint to wait until next year to lower the price. At the same time, you go on to say that they should drop it next year by $100 instead of $50 this year. That would make your manufacturing point invalid because they likely can't get the cost down that much by Spring.

I guess the GP is into the whole idea of getting a good deal so a Price Cut along with Mario Kart 8 would create the illusion of a good deal even though the price would be the same if it was reduced now rather than later. In reality, it would make no difference but to the average consumer, maybe it would.

Another issue I have with waiting is the 3DS. I know that they are different markets but they still will compete with each other. I think a 3DS price cut is due in Spring 2014 to help boost its sales after the Pokemom momentum fades.

Ur right they may sell at a small loss Iif they cut it by $100 next April but they should easily be able to make up for it with software sales. Pokemon X/Y, 3D World, Mario Kart 8, DKC Tropical Freeze, Wii Fit U, will all have long legs and sell well throughout next year. $50 cut in August/Sept wont have as many big releases to offset hardware losses so thats a big reason I think they may wait.

I just hope the system won't be forgotten to obscurity when the other consoles are released.

Lower price, bundle the 2D Mario. Make Wii Sports sequel, when finished, include that in the bundle.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Been looking into it online.   Appears it does upscale to 1080p but doesn't re-render (like Dolphin) so crisper images but also more jagged edges.

Good to know. Does add some value to WiiU for me.  Thanks.

I honestly dont think it will. New marketing campaign plus an exclusive releasing every 2-3 weeks or so starting in Aug until the end of the year will surely give it a sizeable boost. On Black Friday I suspect we will see the Basic all the way down to $199 just to get rid of them and $299 Deluxe bundles with an additional game.

Nothing is goimg to prevent the new consoles from sellimg well this holiday since they will mostly be to huge Playstation or Xbox fans. Early next year when thr launch hype had died down is the right time to strike hard. Officially discontinue thr basic, drop deluxe to $250 alongsidr Mario Kart 8 will boost sales exponentially, Smash a few months later in the summer will keep momentum going.

What I would suggest to NOA:

32GB - Black or White w/Nintendo Land - $279.99 effective in late September.

+ Free Digital Download of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD through January 2014 for new owners (holiday promotion).

That's basically just taking the basic pack and dropping the price by $20 and adding in a bunch of value -- 24GB more flash RAM (cheap), copy of Nintendo Land (not going to kill Nintendo), and even the free download copy of Zelda is not a big deal ... it's just a HD port of an old GameCube game.

But put together it gives the whole system some nice value and more importantly for Nintendo will get systems hopefully moving so that Mario 3D World, DKC, Wii Fit U, Wonderful 101, etc. actually have some userbase to sell to.

I'd like to see every new system come pre-loaded with a playable demo of The Wonderful 101 as well, that game needs promotion.

Nice one...I think dropping the price to $279.99 with NintendoLand pre-installed is doable this September (even if it is late Sept) and a genius idea IMHO.  Though I doubt they would let go of WW:HD for free ( I would surely ask for the same game as an Ambassador if that happens). That would salvage a lot of time from their post-launch blunder and give a chance for the Wii U to sell decent this Holiday. I would think a price drop to $279-$299 of the Deluxe version this September is brilliant!!! A holiday bundle with pre-installed NSMB:U along with NintendoLand for $299 would make them extremely competitive and could pick up sales from people who won't be able to find an X1 or PS4 this Christmas!!!

TRUST ME IT HELPS A LOT MORE THAN YOU THINK!!!! Unless you have those $4-5K  LEDTV's (I have a $2K 60" Sharp and the upconversion of Wii U is awesome) that has an incredible upscaler the Wii U upscaler benefits your old Wii games a lot!!!

They won't be taking a loss if it is only a $50 reduction though.

With that said, you have made another excellent point about the longevity of Nintendo games and selling more systems will surely help sell games too. You have convinced me.

Nintendo should just do bundles and wait the Holiday out and price cut the deluxe Wii U to $250 in April.

I still think the 3DS should have a price cut around that time too. Maybe delay that one to Summer 2014 instead.
