Forums - Sales - Global HW&SW UP! 15th June 2013

The Last of Us sold incredible well considering it released on a Friday here in the US. I expect week 2 sales to be very good and I expect this game to have legz. The PS3 boost isn't very big but not surprising since it didn't get a bundle. But hey PS3 is outselling the 360 nearly 2:1 this week!

OMG! The 3DS exploded!

Remember guys... its all about teh phones and the tablets! Why are you buying 3DS'?! Them silly analysts.

DS/PSP in the same week

2006: 401k/140k
2007: 429k/188k
2008: 446k/217k
2009: 363k/123k
2010: 280k/115k
2011: 138k/127k

When the 3DS exploding is still well below what the DS was doing normally, I'm not sure it is the analysts that are silly.

Gap between PS3 and Wii decreased by 0.55% in 1 week.

Assuming no drop in PS3 sales, only 3.5 years to go!

12,259m Jan-Dec 2012 PS3
4,938m Jan-Dec 2012 Wii

4,308 Jan-Jun (this point in time) 2012 PS3
7,951m Jun-Dec 2012 PS3

3,597 Jan-Jun 2013 PS3 = 83.5%
6599 (predicted) Jun-Dec 2013 @83.5% of 2012, though should be lower

funny, 3.5 years is exactly what the numbers point to (including future price cut)

Will easily be beyond 2M by the end of the month.

Why dont you compare the home console numbers aswell? Its not the same envyronment and economical conditions today that you had back then. The 3DS outsold every other gaming platform platform by alot. It did double what the second one did. Yes, it exploded. Tablets and phones have nothing on the gaming market. Its silly to think that because its inherintly wrong. Phones and Tablets cant replace the games market because the controls are piss poor for gaming.

If they were to put some button inthere they would in turn lose a part of the phone market, so they cant. Therefore its all just a fad. Phones and tablets are good distractions but arent full gaming machines. It would be good for you friends the analysts to stop spewing such nonsense.

I'm not sure how the console decline helps your argument.  Wasn't it about how smartphones and tablets were no threat to dedicated gaming, and the analysts are silly for suggesting it?  The Wii U would probably be doing better if tablets didn't exist.

Certainly the pertinent piece of information is phone and tablet sales which have gone up tremendously since those years of 400k+ weekly DS sales.  It doesn't matter if the 3DS did double (80% more actually) what the PS3 did.  What matters is this explosion is still less than what the DS used to do on a normal week.  So how were the analysts wrong exactly?

Your argument seems to boil down to you not liking smartphone/tablet gaming.  So because you don't like it, it doesn't matter how much phones sell or how much the 3DS declines compared to the DS, it just doesn't count.

Sounds like most people's arguement against ignoring Wii sales most of last gen.

In any case, I agree that phones/tablets are still a major factor in this gen's handheld market, no matter how much of a fad they may seem.
