I'm not sure how the console decline helps your argument. Wasn't it about how smartphones and tablets were no threat to dedicated gaming, and the analysts are silly for suggesting it? The Wii U would probably be doing better if tablets didn't exist. Certainly the pertinent piece of information is phone and tablet sales which have gone up tremendously since those years of 400k+ weekly DS sales. It doesn't matter if the 3DS did double (80% more actually) what the PS3 did. What matters is this explosion is still less than what the DS used to do on a normal week. So how were the analysts wrong exactly? Your argument seems to boil down to you not liking smartphone/tablet gaming. So because you don't like it, it doesn't matter how much phones (it) sell or how much the 3DS declines compared to the DS, it just doesn't count. |
Sounds like most people's arguement against ignoring Wii sales most of last gen.
In any case, I agree that phones/tablets are still a major factor in this gen's handheld market, no matter how much of a fad they may seem.
