By the sound of things it appears that the launch Xbox One consoles will come with DRM and always on enabled but will have a day 1 patch applied when you connect to Xbox Live. It dawned on me that these consoles may be one of a kind as the update will probably be pre-applied to second batch of consoles. Someone at Microsoft will enable a hack or a trick for this update to be bypassed for their own enjoyement. People at Microsoft don't deal with physical media...they will not want to bypass the cloud due to fears of their own DRM eating their children. They will tell 2 freinds, and they will their their friends about it...etc. Sooner than you know it, it will be on tech blogs and XDA Forums alike... For those that want the cloud experience for all purchases and they want to experience Xbox One the way its meant to be played, with fast game and app switching and no loading, disk swapping nonsence...it may be very wise to stock up on Xbox One unit or two and wait a few months. |
I wana say, "Nice Try Bill G." Just kiddin'
But I do know Microsoft has much enhanced the security of the Xbox One. It is thought that is why they didn't allow a removable hard drive - something I quizzed the team about. (As hard drives are the most common computer component to fail within the first year - and usually easy to replace.)
I think if you only buy game all digital you would still be able to fast swap. That is what I am planning to do - I will miss going to gamestop. :-/
Anyway, it would be sad to get a launch Xbox One and not play it.
Really? You do realize that the "way it was meant to be played" means that within the first 24 hours, you'll have to connect to the internet. One can only assume that as soon as you try to connect to the internet, it'll say that there is an update and you need to update it before you're able to play a game. That alone will shatter your dreams of playing the Xbox the "way it was meant to be played." Unless of course you buy a first wave Xbox One and never connect to the internet giving you a whopping 23 hr and 59 min play time until XDA and other hackers find an exploit....Have fun.

Yeah its doubtful but crazier things have happened. Microsoft tends to be very chillaxee when it comes to security for updates they dont find appealing. For example, on windows phone, most carrier or OEM specific updates that lock things down like internet sharing or device specific exploits usually have a backdoor bypass available pretty fast.
Ill be there all digital too when it comes to game purchases, but Id love to rub it in friends faces if my xbox could do full disk installs :)
"Can your Xbox check in every 24 hours?...Hah, I didnt think so."

It wouldnt, hence why im saying youd have to wait for a hack to bypass this patch...which may never come. Regardless your xbox would be a different breed from what will follow even if non functional :)
The only reason they will be worth anything is because they will be customized a bit. I believe the box is detailed with something and so is the controller.
Also given how people act towards achievements that day one achievement you get, if it is a physical code, may be worth a pretty penny if you shop it around that community after a year or 2.

I think Microsoft should find a way to get a share when these valuable consoles will be resold
“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
- George Orwell, ‘1984’
no you can avoid disk you should avoid disk.... because if the nextbox one 2.0 1080 comes out disk drive less and you require a disk to play your old games well you know what that means.... if backward compatibility is available it will only be true for DD purchase in the current state of things.....

That would work if the server support required for the Xbone to work in its original way exists, which won't.
