I just wanted to see who here feels Kinect is an important and essential feature for you and your use of a console, so I decided to do this survey.

Part of my asking here, is to get a pulse on people here, and now it comes down to the Kinect camera being a major reason for the One being more expensive.

It's far from essential. Personally I value it at $10, possibly $20.

I play video games to relax, not to jump around like Michael J Fox on crack.

I would much prefer it to be optional and the console $100 cheaper.

Not paying for it till it is at least 100 cheaper + Halo 5. PS4 and Wii U till then. Kinect, Move and anything that is not a conventional controller are all garbage to me. I dislike that I have to buy it no matter what. At least I have the option to skip Sony's crap. I have the same issue with the Wii U, and that's why I'm waiting for a serious price drop. Tried the tab and it's not worth me shelling out 300+

Absolutely not.

I saw very little at E3 that made use of the Kinect to justify the added cost.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

I think it's vulgar having this camera constantly pointing at you. For me it's a hideous feature and a hideous idea. Im not a fan =p

pretty much a gimmick game wise and it's introduced to resolved a non issue controller wise

yes i really like kinect (well, kinect 1 could be obviously better) and i'm happy that every console will have it. only then, developers will really think about using it for stuff like in skyrim which is awesome and will probably also work much better with kinect 2. and i also like something like fantasia or kinect sports but kinect sports only when i have visitors.

i also really like the idea to play as example fifa against a friend and see him on the screen while playing. to see his reaction after you shot a goal and so on... or for co-op games like gears of war. it's much nicer to see your friends which live around the country when you play with them.

My opinion on Kinect is slightly more complex than a simple "great" or "shit".

I definitely like the idea that every console ships with a camera and microphone. I think Nintendo and Microsoft have made the right decision with Wii U and Xbox One, and I think it was a bad decision of Sony to ship the PS4 without the camera.

BUT the fact that I welcome Microsoft shipping every Xbone with a camera and microphone does not mean that I like all aspects of Kinect. In my opinion, the (definitely interesting) depth-sensing technology used in Kinect is simply way too expensive in relation to how little it brings to the table. When people talk about what they love about Kinect, they always only alk about voice control, and hardly ever about features that are only possible because of the expensive depth sensor that is responsible for probably 90% of the costs. Microphones are very cheap, yet they allow for great possibilities. They should definitely ship with every console.

The PS4 camera in my opinion has the best concept: Instead of relying on special and expensive depth-sensors, they are instead going for a stereoscopic 3D solution using two cheap standard cameras. This makes the device much cheaper to produce, allows for the same depth sensing that Kinect has, but unlike the Kinect camera, it also enables capturing stereoscopic 3D video, which will be a great feature in the next years when 3DTVs will become standard.

i'm with criss...
