Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One vs PS4 post policy change. An honest outlook.

1. The damage is done. MS tried to take advantage of us and we won't forget.

completly agree - this will be soon forgotten.

2. The Xbox1 is priced $100 more then the PS4.

this is the one reason why i think ps4 is going to outpace xbone.  the systems are soo similar that $100 will matter imo.

3. Kinect is still required/can totally watch and listen to me.

i still really don't trust the US government (which can disregard privacy agreements) but as the outrage with the government hasn't been as great as i would have expected ms will be fine.

4. The Xbox 1 is still weaker then PS4.

we'll see.  blow said things like 60fps on ps4 and 30fps on xbone.  if that's true the core will care about that even if no one else does.  too early to tell right now though.

5. Still restrictive indie support.

i think it matters.  ps4 has at least 9 defacto timed-exclusives (and in some cases outright exclusives) due to MS's policy.  they aren't the biggest games in the industry but every exclusive helps distinquish them.  it's not really the policy itself but the games ps4 is getting as a result.

6. Xbox Live Gold is more expensive

yeah this one is very weak.  $10 a year is nothing.

In conclusion:   agreed,  MS is back in the game and will hold it's own.

Sales I respect your stand on things even though sometimes I have seen you just look at only what you want(as we all do) when it is in your best interest lol.

But to have an honest outlook....don't you have to state the good and the bad for BOTH sides?

Im sure there is plenty "bad side" opinions to go around without me chiming in lol

You have a point there lol.

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

Also consdiering how it costs Sony and MS next to nothing to give free digital games, its essentially free money to them and the illusion of value to us.

It's not like they have to pay the publishers or anything, or lose sales on their own games. And how is being given great games to play an illusion of value?

Just saying it would cost MS/Sony a very small royalty to give away a digital game where as we would see a free games worth as what it would be sold for in todays game stores. But in the end, its a free game, so fair enough.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

6. Xbox Live Gold is more expensive

Well......funny how we have gone from "Free to play > pay-to-play" to "my pay-to-play model is better then yours". Huh. Interesting how someones core principles can change in an instant. Also consdiering how it costs Sony and MS next to nothing to give free digital games, its essentially free money to them and the illusion of value to us. I see this as a more-or-less even playing field.

While on this site there are alot of Sony fans that have Xbox 360...there is also alot of Sony fans that burned Xbox at the stake for paywall...Now that sony does does it..Suddenly it is what makes PSN better than XBL..

Surprisingly, I agree with a lot of what you've said. I'll be honest, I expected something a lot different when I saw that avatar. This might be one of the fairest things you've written, though that last paragraph was unnecessary and kind of puzzling as a 'conclusion' for the rest of the post.

I think the XO is going to do just fine. Microsoft is kind of lucky they had time to change their approach. As it stands now, they'll still be forgiven by their fanbase, though they'd better not screw up again soon because nothing is ever really forgotten. They're going to be on a short leash for the next year.

However, you're wrong about the importance of the indie scene. It will only get bigger from here on out and Microsoft will eventually change their policies or they'll be frozen out of a lot of good games. There is no reason for that. Sure, people won't miss one or two indie titles, but let the missed games mount up and that will be a real difference between the consoles. Huge, no, but significant.

The $100 difference in price is an edge for Sony but only a slight one. I don't think it will make a great deal of difference in North America though it might keep the PS4 closer to the XO in monthly sales than we saw with the 360 and PS3.

Kinect is an entirely personal thing. I have no interest but others will love it.

I think the PS4 is going to outsell the XO but not by a large margin. Microsoft will launch a media blitz that will erase a lot of the negative press. They'll win back most of the 360 fans and maybe a few casuals/TV buffs. I think they've lost a few core gamers because of their mistakes but nothing that will really hurt them. However, people in general don't really trust Microsoft, for reasons that even predate the Xbox brand, so Microsoft had best get their act together before launch. They can't afford another fiasco.

I agree.  Most of the "MS is back in the game" statements I really only agree with if we're talking about the US.  I don't see that MS has done anything to drastically help their cause outside the US, and I think Sony has significantly closed the US gap in the past 6 months leading into the next gen.  Price and being first mean everything in the US, MS proved that with the current generation.  The PS4 is less expensive and won't be launching a year later.

I think it's as simple as this.

Why do people who have absolutely no knowledge about tech keep bringing up GDDR5 vs GDDR3 like its something huge. You are just repeating what you have heard and read. Crysis 3 on PC only requires 4gb of GDDR3 ram and of course a DX11 compatible GPU. Considering it looks better than anything on these next gen consoles at the moment I'm pretty sure Xbox One will be fine with 8 GB of GDDR3. Ryse was the best looking exclusive at E3 imo (graphics wise) for either console. Also XBox Live will be miles better than last gen. Every game running on dedicated servers already makes it worthwhile. Can you say that every game will run on dedicated servers on PSN?

It think the op does a fair job of expressing all these points, but #4 doors tally come down to the developers so well have to wait and see if gddr5 does more graphically than server side calculations...

Furthermore, i think there are a lot more comparisons to be made in regards to features and their usefullness / purposeful to gamers.

Maybe even those people who have absolutely no knowledge about tech know there is no gddr memory in the XBox One ?
