Forums - Sony - Walmart Manager, ” I have not personally sold a Vita in over a year”.

I love my Vita. Wonderful gaming experiences.

That said Sony has sort of ignored the Vita until very recently. I hope the PS4 interaction will increase the games we can get on the Hand Held.

that's because store managers typically don't find themselves behind a registure

P.S. i'm sure he hasn't sold many if any Wiiu's either, based on VGC numbers.

We've all seen Vita numbers, I don't think anecdote changes anyones perception of it.

I've noticed that the system has a huge satisfaction rate though. It doesn't have system sellers but it has a ton of great games.

2014 will be the last year the Vita is in stores. i can almost guarantee it. This year sony are supporting the handheld with only 2 full big games. Killzone: Mercinary & Taeaway.. thats it.

This is honestly the first Sony system i have had and think 'yeh... its not very good'. PS1, PS2. PSP & PS3 where all awesome! the Vita?.. no

This is hilarious.

Why? becuase it differs from what you think and you actually believe Sony are going to pour money into something that is already dead? They are launching the PS4. its crusial to them that its huge. they dont have the time, money and first party deleopers to waste on the Vita.

i was a believer and brought on launch day. Everyone makes mistakes.

They wouldn't be giving the Vita remote play love on PS4 if it was dead.

That's a good point.  Most people I know that have it, love it, including me.

Does anyone have some ideas to move the Vita out of the cellar?

Push Remote Play

I think if remote play works as well as they hope with PS4, pushing it as a mobile Call of Duty device could sell enough systems to establish a base to wrangle the 3rd parties in more.  Even better, if they got a direct port of Call of Duty with cross platform play with the PS4 and PS3, look out.

I'm not a Call of Duty or big FPS gamer, but they sell.  If you take that obsession and offer it anywhere there is WiFi, that could really push some units.

That being said I hope it's not reduced to a Remote Play only device, but any method to move units is a good one.

Price Cut

Obvious, but a price cut to the Vita and its memory cards would only give a short term burst.  The memory cards do need to drop for sure though.  Getting the Vita an identity and marketing is what really needs to happen...

Identity and Marketing

Who is the target consumer for the Vita?  This still needs to be defined.  It has great games, it's great hardware, and it's a great companion to the PS4.  Maybe they ride the PS4 wave and...

Offer some PS4/Vita Bundles

If you could get a PS4 with a bundled Vita and a year of PlayStation Plus for $599, would you do it?  That's a pretty attractive price for a PS4, console quality (and actuality with remote play) on the go, and the instant game collection.

Vita users, what are your ideas?

Unfortunately that doesn't filter out the locations that don't have electronics at all, like the Walmart Neighborhood Markets which only sells groceries.

That would be a very small amount of stores. I have been in half the states this country has to offer and have never seen a single groceries only Walmart. According to Wikipedia, as of 2011 they had 199 of them.

*shrug*

I've seen like 5 of them here in Orlando, they sprung up in areas where previous stores failed like old Food Lions, Kmarts, Kash n Karry etc.

Vita users, what are your ideas?

I'm with you on those points.

1)PS4 Remote play is key and could serve as a huge selling point not just at launch but 5 years down the line. The only issue is the lack of an R2/L2. For many, especially those who play fps's, that might be a deal killer. The back touch panel simply does not suffice. I suggested it earlier in the year but people reacted as if I was crazy, they should release a cheap ($30) but sleak+comfortable gamepad attachment for the Vita with 2 additional triggers. PS3 streaming may is also important, having the majority of the PS3's cataloge available to stream at your will on a handheld is a huge thing! Another reason why we need an optional trigger attachment.

2) They need to start including internal memory (at least 12GB), with every system. This would be more effective than simply lowering the price of the cards. The truth is, If the system had a decent bit of internal memory, I wouldn't of cared how much the cards cost, even if in reality I would end up buying one down the road.

Even though 12GB sounds a lot, you'd end up buying a seperate memory card a few months later especially if you join PS+, so sony will still make money through selling memory, but consumers will see the system as a lot cheaper and the cards as non-essential. I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt totally abused by the prospect of paying £60 for 32GB of memory. Paying  £20 for 4GB felt just as extortionate so I went for the highest capacity so I wouldn't regret it later. Either the cards are what put me off buying the system at launch.

3)They need to start advertising the Vita again this summer, this time for more specific demographics. I haven't seen a Vita advert since 2012, which is fair because they haven't had too many huge releases to really advertise, but they have enough titles lined up to make some great compilation ads (Rayman Legends, Jak HD, Soul Sacrifice, Muramasa, walking dead, Killzone). The fact that half of those games are multiplatform doesn't matter, if you market something as an exclusive that is generally how the public percieve it, It really does strengthen the brand just ask microsoft. I know from my siblings who thought COD was only coming to Xbox One.

Also there is plenty of room for the system to be popular amongst hipsters and Japandroids, instead of the generic COD/Fifa/AC market who only buy 3 games per year and are probably "above" owning a dedicated handheld.  By visibly advertising to a more niche market, I think they could find their device sudenly becomes cool again. A game like Tearaway could be the poster boy of such a campaign. They need that clean, smart and simple advertisng that apple utilises, instead of ads that poorly misinteprets ideas of what teenagers think is cool.

4)Price cut late summer to coincide with Rayman, Killzone and build momentum for Tearaway in October, FFX HD and ps4 release presumably in november.

Not sure if any of the above would work, but I think its more reliable than trying what they did last christmas with AC:liberation, Need for Speed and COD: Declassified. It just hit me that those audiences are not looking beyond their Smart phones for gaming on the go.

I actually work in the electronics section at a Walmart and since launch we've literally sold 4 units. Which is really sad, because, I love my Vita and I think it's a great piece of hardware. Unfortunately, the software just isn't there yet.
