TIME TO FIND OUT.

It's a system seller for me; I would have waited for Bayonetta 2 and x otherwise.

Very smart of Nintendo do push a new Donkey Kong game from Retro Studios then a new Metriod from a business standpoint.

Wow, someone who actually looks at that decision from a business stand point? I'm shocked and appalled. But pleased. Very pleased that someone else can see through all the crap to notice that maybe (just maybe!) Nintendo might want to sell the Wii U.

I know! People tend to put DK near the Kirby/Metroid/Mario Party Tier of Nintendo sales when clearly hes right there with LOZ,Mario RPGs,Animal Crossing sales. I would actually have more faith in a DK game sell more Wii Us then a fresh LOZ game to be honest and clearly the 4 to 5 million in sales would be better then the 1 to 3 million sales from a new Metroid was the best path for Nintendo even though many of the fans of the series choose to believe differently. Dont get me wrong id rather have the Zelda and Metroid games but they will come sooner or later!

i simply don't know the answer to that question, but i'm extremely intrigued to find out. I personally don't view it as one. Something i would buy down the road when it was cheaper because it's a great 2d platformer. But, when i buy a system i look for the games that are going to take me on a story filled adventure like god of war, legend of zelda, or halo. Not a game that's only fun to play. Fun-only isn't enough nowadays... not for 60$.
Real quick on kid icarus vs. donkey kong. I think kid icarus has far more potential to be a game like those that i mentioned before. I don't think it's happened yet, but if it did; i would say it jumps up a tier from donkey kong.

it IS refreshing, however, i have to wonder if nintendo should have done more than just look at the numbers this time.  Lots of people obviotusly loved donkey kong country returns.  But, did they love it so much that they needed to buy a sequel, and, more importantly, are willing to buy a system to play that sequel?  I think that's the real question.  Personally can't wait to see the answer as it's made me most curious.

It's smart that metroid wasn't the retro game, but i personally think nintendo should have really invested alot of money into a new ip.  Teamed up the game designing at retro (as opposed to tecmo) with a team like D-rockets (otherM cutscene producers) and a strong writing staff and made a really strong narrative heavy adventure that really expressed the innovation of the gamepad while simultaeiously tugged at our imagination and heartstrings.  I think that's what it takes to sell a system in todays market.  agree?  Hope thats not too off topic.

It'll move some systems initially, but the DKC games are known to have long legs... as do most Nintendo games because they are so far and few between, and Nintendo likes to milk them for all they're worth.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Mmmm ... kinda yes and no. Yes in the sense that any big IP at this point can only help the Wii U, it's selling that badly. And DKC is actually probably about as popular as the Zelda series, there are lots of casuals that like to play a more straight forward game like DKC over a Zelda game.

But the system already has NSMBU and is getting New Super Luigi as well, and then Rayman is coming, and Sonic and Mario 3D World this fall too -- it's overkill for platformers.

Nintendo would've been better off with Mario Kart 8 and X this holiday over Mario 3D World and DKC: TF to be honest.

And DKC is like my favorite Super NES game ever and probably one of my top five most cherished Nintendo games ever (above every Zelda game, yup). So I'm definitely a fan.

The other thing is it's not that big of a visual showcase for the system, it looks nice of course, but it looks like the Wii game in HD on steroids rather than something built from the ground up for the Wii U.

At this rate it looks like we'll have to wait until next year for Wii U to get a real graphical showcase; Mario 3D World looks like a 3DS game on steroids, Wind Waker is literally a Gamecube game on steroids...

I think it will encourage parents to buy it for children seeing as many parents now probably grew up with donkey kong games, and near the holidays kids will ask for presents from santa etc and I think it could make the wiiU look like a great holiday buy
