HDMI = DVI

HDMI - sound = DVI

DVI carries sound.

Heck, DVI can use the extact same protocals and transmission format as a HDMI cable if the device outputting the information supports it, making DVI literally... HDMI with a different connector.

should work with any HDCP compliant monitor

you can get video over HDMI and connect your hi-fi with cinch or digital audio at the same time with the PS3

I haven't attempted to do it, but maybe this can work for you.

Connect the the HDMI to the monitor through a converter. And use the RCA cable for audio. You can get a wire that converts the RCA audio to a 3.5mm port, so you can use PC speakers.

I'm not certain if this will work, but its worth a shot.

Oh, so it can carry analog audio. Not digital, though.

Just wanted to update everyone on this. The cable I bought didn't work. You can only go HDMI to DVI with a HDCP compliant monitor. You cannot go digital to analog with such a simple cable. You'd need a converter box.

I ended up buying a whole new monitor. It was time for an upgrade anyway.
