Forums - Microsoft - Titanfall: Xbox One’s cloud computing helped Respawn think differently, says Zampella

I'm sure he wasn't paid to say especially the game is coming to the 360 as well

What a pile of crap. This developer is full of it. If cloud computing was really driving this game, why is it on 360 and isn't on ps4? Is he suggesting the 360 is capable of doing the same thing they are bragging so much about that makes the XBox one sooooo powerful? What a liar. I wish someone had the integrity to tell the truth once in a while. I don't know if this is the truth, but I personally think MS payed them a shit ton of money for exclusivity, and they have to spin it so us gamers don't know how greedy they really are. Kudos to them for limiting their audience for some MS cash. They will be begging to be on the playstation systems after launch, if things keep going the way they are now.

According to the leaked source before E3 the 360 version of the game is being developed by a different developer than Respawn:

http://www.insidegamingdaily.com/2013/06/06/respawns-new-game-is-called-titanfall/

According to a post on NeoGAF, the cover subject of Game Informer’s July issue is Respawn Entertainment’s new game, Titanfall. The game is slated for a Spring 2014 release, coming exclusively to Microsoft’s consoles, the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. According to the post, the 360 version is being ported by a different developer.

360 version will likely not have as many features as the Xbox One version and presumably downgraded AI and graphics if all of the processing is just localized to the 360 hardware.

But yes it is confirmed to be on Xbox 360 and PC according to Xbox Wire:

http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/e3-xbox-unveils-new-generation-of-games-at-e3

Showcasing the caliber of support from the world’s biggest publishers, Electronic Arts also stunned the audience with the reveal of “Titanfall,” coming only to Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

This does nothing to quell my concerns. The fact is he is lying. The 360 version will of course be slightly gimped, but not because of access to the cloud. It will be gimped because of hardware. MS and Zampella are throwing around the cloud proccessing crap like its some revolutionary new thing that can only be done on the Xbox One. Which is far from the truth. As of now Sony is leading the way with the cloud when it comes to home consoles. MS and Zampella are liars. They know exactly what they are doing.

as i understand it, and i'm by no means a real expert, you are absolutly right about the latency being a killer.  it's not like the cloud suddenly give a solitary xbone more power to push things like more FPS or the such.  the cloud is largely useless in anything single player due to latency.

where it will come in is online games like MMOs.  MMO's have a giaganitic worlds.  you can have a user host it but it take their power away limiting the overall experience.  this is why things like dedicated servers are important.  the cloud will act like a dedicated server.   ..and should the develooper want to go bigger (MMO) a bigger cloud is even better than a dedicated server.

PS4 will do cloud based stuff too. dhttp://n4g.com/news/1283531/sony-of-course-ps4-can-do-cloud-computing    in fact ps3 is already doing it with games like freeRealms, Dust 514 and a couple others.  i'm pretty sure there is at least one game on 360 utilizing cloud tech too.  some games just need it.  but MS's current push is just PR.   ..with a bit of worry that the PR (if successful) can be used to justify a "cloud required" (aka always online) mandate even in games that don't need it.

So why isn't what Sony is saying about the cloud (with no devs  backing it up or further information) not called out as PR?

well...qutie a strong opinion you have there. Liars huh? There is no doubt there is likely some type of financial backing involved to ensure Respawn is exclusive, but what does Zampella or Respawn have to gain from lieing? Please, correct me if Im wrong but I assume your preferred gaming platform isn't something from Microsoft?

Really the potential of cloud compute in gaming has surely not been fully realized yet, but gaming is moving closer to a more online experience. And of course cloud computing can enhance that. Of course certain lag sensative data could not be processed in the cloud at least until our connections are virtually lag free, but there are many things developers can process in the cloud that are not lag sensative. Don't call it bull until you see how its implemented. I just don't understand why you think Zampella or Respawn would gain anything from lieing about advantages they have captured in the development of their game.

first... Titanfall has SP? i thought this was MP only... i was clearly wrong and now i am surprised...
i think the cloud power is being overrated for PR leverage... hope we can see the differences by the end of the year so we can all dismiss this as "the next big thing"

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

Just made me think of the song "T-u-r-t-l-e Power" (hip hop version from the movie). Somebody needs to create a parody of that and call it cloud power. :)

Now I understand, of course it was Microsoft windows 8 cloud computing that turned this from being allegedly a game with no exclusivity into one with exclusivity and it absolutely in no way had nothing at all to do with money, it was all the power of the cloud!
