Forums - Nintendo - Super Mario 3D World won’t have online multiplayer

I personally prefer local play. People are much less likely to be dicks when they are within arms reach of you.

I just do not understand that response.

Nothing says they have to ditch local multiplayer at all. They can keep it just as it is right now. Although why? Why not in addition just add online multiplayer for those who want to still enjoy a multiplayer setting without people around?

I just, don't understand it. What's this issue with not wanting to add it?

Agree. It's the third time they pull this "we want you to see other people" nonsense. Enough is enough.

Sounds like you're implying that a game can't have local multiplayer if it has online multiplayer already and vice versa. Uber false this is. MKWii is a perfect example, as it had simultaneous local and online play, showing that Nintendo is perfectly capable of this. So really there's no defending Nintendo's decision here. We'll just have to accept it was a bad move and move on unfortunately.

Not saying local play can't co-exsist with online, just saying that people are more likely to behave themselves if you are both in the same room. Sorry if I was unclear.

While I can understand Hayashida-san's reason, it is still a bloody missed opportunity!

Gentlemen, it's time to take this up on MiiVerse, commence flooding of comments to rectify this!!! Pitch-forks at the ready! March!!!

Could it be that their online network isn't 100% ready? All the online heavy games are coming in 2014. I would have thought Pikmin would be a prime candidate. That said, apart from a lack of players BLOPS2 doesn't seem to have too many online issues.

Ah, ok then, though that's not necessarily true. I prefer playing online than with some of my friends as they're either too out of control or take things way too seriously. I can never seem to find a middle ground on the matter. =(

marios has always been good by being local and it always will, there are some things that won't be changed and that's one of them. I'm glad it's that way.

Am I supposed to be surprised?

Also, am I supposed to care? Oh no, I guess I'll just have to play it... single-player? Isn't that what everyone wanted to begin with, anyway? A new single-player 3D Mario platformer?

We've already went over numerous times that adding online multiplayer would do nothing to local multiplayer. If anything it'd enhance it.
