Forums - Gaming - In defence of the WiiU. Metacritic come to my aid...

LOL loving the excuses. So Multiplatform games count for PS3/360 but cant count for Wii U because they are on other platforms.. Ports don't count? Dang that really hurts the PS3 as most MP games are just ports of the 360 version.
This type of list is going to make the PS4 look horrible when we take off the 2 year old ports of PC games and most of its launch titles as they are on PS3/360.

So Wii U has ports, how does that matter? Arkham City is a AAA game whatever system it is on. I cant fathom out how Mass Effect 3 etc get so much critical acclaim on other platforms, but are dismissed as "crappy ports" on Wii U.
A lot of these ports are the definitive version on Wii U, Need for speed, Arkham City, Tekken, Darksiders. All have extra content and the DLC on the disc and in the case of Need for speed, improved polished graphics and gamepad support.
All also offer off tv play via the gamepad, again a feature not possible on other versions.

WiiU has more "quality" games thus far than the Wii (and PS3) hence expectations for high quality output should be higher than current perception.

It seems to me that gaming these days is like stock market. It is about perception and not actual facts. Now we are riding the PS4 bubble

Wii U had a huge amount of launch games.
Which also means that the 8 months after PS3 launch were also pretty poor.

Maybe you should tell Wii U owners that they count because the top 6 retail games on metacritic are all ports at 150k sales or less.  But it is the Playstation gamers who are the kids that don't buy games...right...

I don't understand. What are you trying to "defend", exactly?

I'm wondering the same thing as well. The Wii-U is sucking wind right now both in terms of hardware sales , and software both quantity and quality, and as such any nitpicking metacritic analysis is pointless. The only thing that should matter to the definition of the success of a console is the following.

A Profit

B Quality games both first and third party

C Great hardware

D Online

E Customer service

Right now i would give the Wii-U a D on all the above based on what we have seen thus far.

This is true, the Wii U probably had the best launch line-up a console has ever had.

Lol, who actually thinks that games rated 75-80 is "quality software"? Game reviews are so skewed toward mid-high 80's for good games nowadays (nothing like with movies), that 75-80 might as well be considered shovelware. Do this calculation for games over 80.

PS4 bubble? I really don't think PS4 is going to be a serious threat at all. The software isn't there. It's just PC ports and more of the same FPS. Charging for online is going to backfire on them as most of their fan base isn't known for spending a lot of money. Look at PS all Stars for example. On the internet it seemed every PS gamer loved it. In reality very few picked it up. That is because the PS fan base is mainly in the 12-24 year old demographic and most of those people rely on their parents for income, and generally are not as financially stable as older adults are. They can't buy every game even though they talk as if they do.

The PS3 was going to kill the Wii and 360 on day 1. It was going to set record sales and be the hard to find holiday item for Christmas. Reality proved to be completely different as 2 weeks after launch they were collecting dust on store shelves and showing up in pawn shops. I see the same thing with PS4 now so I know its not going anywhere. The PS fan base loves to talk but that is all it is.

Sony might win some casual sales since they designed the PS4 to look like an updated Wii but when those consumer get home and find an inferior experience to what they expected and extra hidden charges they will be turned off.

You have the wildest imagination, do you come up with this bs off the top of your head?

Aren't most of the launch titles just ports of games that are already on PS3/360, such as Mass Effect 3, Need for Speed, Assassin's Creed 3, and so on?

Yeah alot of older games, not really that difficult to get quality titles if you just port a few older highly ranked games.  As a comparison none of the PS3 are ports of older games. Even most HD remakes get a 7.5 or higher.
