Wii U had a huge amount of launch games. Which also means that the 8 months after PS3 launch were also pretty poor.

This is true, the Wii U probably had the best launch line-up a console has ever had.

Yeah alot of older games, not really that difficult to get quality titles if you just port a few older highly ranked games. As a comparison none of the PS3 are ports of older games. Even most HD remakes get a 7.5 or higher.
