Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo claims to have "no plans" to drop Wii U price, "Now a great value with the announcements from our competitors"

$50 less for a console that is mabye a 5th as powerful, with fewer features, and nothing really going for it atm beyond a thick goofy looking Ipad wannabe. I don't mean to troll, but I own a Wii-U, and with what PS4 is boasting, $350 is NOT a good price for the system. I hear about a slew of games and content, but all I see is 3rd party support quickly disappearing, and just sequel on top of sequel to the names that we've been playing for several generations. Nintendo needs to realise that their glory in the casual limelight is long gone. Casuals aren't buying into the Wii-U, and the hardcore audience abandoned them a long time ago. Even though I am somewhat of a Nintendo fan, I feel like they need to just drop the Console market all together and focus on handhelds. The casual market is still booming there, and that's probably the only place where they'll see a big turnout of profit anymore. Hell, mabye they should even look into the smartphone/ tablet market.

I agree also!!! The best move they could do is a price-drop (and to unify the basic and premium) to $300 during the release of M3DW.  Also if Nintendo really wants to compete they would add NSMB as a pre-installed software for a limited time this coming holiday along with the price drop!!!

thats crazy imo its hard to justify buying a wiiU at that price for me atleast

it's like both nintendo and microsoft are just allowing sony to grow?

32GB for 349, with a party mario game

vs 500GB for a nexgen console at 399?

ok

I see it as a major problem when you have to use your competitors as the primary benchmark to gage the value of your own product. The other consoles may be too expensive as well, but that doesn't mean the Wii U isn't. It also has the cheapest hardware, and a controller gimmick that not everybody places much value in (such as myself).

If they have no plans to drop the Wii U price, then I have no plans to buy a Wii U.

"So bare minimum = mario 3d world, donkey kong, mario kart, bayonetta 2, X, smash bros, wind waker remake, pikmin3, W 101, luigi u, sonic lw, mario and sonic, wii fit u, wii party u. and those are the exclusives, the console is still getting splinter cell, watch dogs, AC4, Batman, Rayman, Call of retrocess ghosts, Skylanders and other lesser apealing titles. it's a pretty solid lineup for the rest of the year and an already killer lineup for 2014 with mario kart keeping the holiday momentum with it's Q1 release."

Nintendo clearly released the Wii U 1 year before the console and games were ready. I think all the games you mentioned will be great.... BUT, Pikmin, Wonderful 101, Rayman and I think Bayonetta were supposed to be launch games.- Smash Bros, Mario Kart and X are 2014-

Well another interesting thing people are forgetting is that if you actually want to have a tablet type controller like the Wii U, you need to shell out another 250+cost of memory card for the PS4 and a smart phone which ain't cheap either for smart glass etc......

They'll cut the price right around PS4/Lease Box Dumb launch.
