Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: If devs are worried about used game sales, they should make better games.

Hmm.  Good FPS are games like  BioShock Infinite and Bulletstorm that actually try to be different from the rest. BF4 still looks like garbage to me. Multiplayer is not gonna cut it for me this time.

Respect nintendo ... serious respect ;)

Reggie is right, of course. Though if you read between the lines you see that Nintendo and/or Reggie is not against blocking for used games in principle, they just don't do it because they don't need to :)

I myself would never sell any of my Nintendo games, they are usually very replayable and I like to do a playthrough every few years of my Zelda games, Mario games or Metroid games for example. Hell, I still play Zelda 2!

This topic is about Reggie saying that if devs are worried about used games sales, they should make better games. I gave  Battlefield 4 as an example. A game that only improves graphically on Battlefield 3. Look at BioShock Infinite. It improved off BioShock 2 in graphics, gameplay, story, characters. The works.

His response makes me want to just go out and buy a WiiU.

Well said Reggie!

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Great statement, glad to see it.

I don't think its that simple, but it is part of the equation. The thing is a ton of nintendo games appeal mostly to kids and are bought by their parents, I don't think they are the number 1 culprit when it comes to used game sales.

Its a combination of better games, more unique games and more selective budgets. No more than 2 weeks ago I remember seeing commercials for Fuse before every other video I watched. Its sad because sales are out and the game didn't even manage 60k week 1. But its also sad because the whole community could see that the game wasn't going anywhere, so why couldn't EA/Insomniac?

Don't know. Gameplay-wise it looks pretty similar to BF3 except with graphics improved to the point where BF5 would not be necessary. I hope I am wrong. I hope the campaign in BF4 it's longer and the story more compelling. I hope EA wows me. Not in a bad way that is.

Battlefield is going to sell though, it doesn't need to worry about 2nd hand sales. The exact same argument could be used for Pokemon and 2D Mario. Theres not always a correlation between innovation and sales. Or quality and sales. What is more important is developers and publishers are able to asses the size of their audience, how they stack up to the compitition and decide a budget based on that. what they currently seem to do is say "game y, will sell X amount because we will throw Z amount of money at it".
