Forums - Gaming - What are you willing to trade for loss of ownership rights?

How much cheaper would games have to be for you to be willing to renege all rights to sell it second hand?

Is there anything other than a discount that would make prohibiting second hand sales okay?

It would have to rival steam for me to be willing to give it up. Sadly, that will probably not happen this gen. Or at least within the first few years of it (never know how the future will turn out.)

If games were cheaper, they would make more money...

A game makes most of its money in the first few weeks of release, sometimes even just the first week.

Put it this way, 75 million PS3 's sold. 75 million 360s sold (realistically, its more like 50 - 60 million individual users), but GOWA / GOWJ only sell 1.2 million. There is something wrong here, and that something is the price.

If the games were say, $40, games would sell millions in its first week. Its as simply as that, there is not deliberating.

If games cost at least 1/3 less then I wouldn't mind having just a digital license to the game. Even though I don't normally trade in games or resell them, I like to have the peace of mind that even if I made a purchase where I just plain don't like the game or it sucks, I have the ability to sell it and recoup some money.

If the games were a lot cheaper, then even if I were stuck with the game, I could accept that knowing it didn't cost me as much.

A $30 launch price at maximum, with a quick drop in price thereafter. Most games should launch at $20 or less. I rarely resell my games but games lose their value once their tied to your account or something. Also, losing ownership practically means I'm renting my games, which has very little value to me. I doubt I'd even buy those $30/$20 games, I'd probably wait until they were $10 or less. That's what I do with Steam, anyway. Steam games just aren't worth much to me.

Nothing, as I refuse to give them up.

If people are right and this is the future, then so is me pirating and thus no longer contributing to this industry, which is sad considering I spend thousands of dollars per gen.

Take away from me and I take away from you. It's simple.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Free System and Steam Pricing would do the trick for me.

$20 new and $10 after 1 month, just like on Steam.

i'd just leave gaming altogether. i've got enough other hobbies to not tolerate bullshit.

You don't relinquish your rights when you purchase digital content.

This is already established in case law, both in the United States and Europe.

You may not have the ability to deal with any party you wish to sell to, such as through Craig's list, eBay, or garage sales, but you still retain the legal right to lend or sell a license through any means provided.
