Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo hardly showed anything new AT ALL; have they run out of ideas? (Rant)

The conference was very bad and uninspiring. It was like nintendo had lost the interest in their own games.
No new surprises at all, I don't even follow nintendo that much but I knew about every game in the conference that was shown, with the possible exception of maybe super mario 3d worlds. But it is mario.

Everything was announced for 2014 as well. It was a bad conference especially the fact that it was only 40 minutes long and no real audience.

While it's somewhat fair to critizise Nintendo for being unimaginative, that same criticism should be directed at the business as a whole. To me it looks like the PS4 and XBox One are bringing the same tired games only with a million more shades of brown and grey.

I still have to admit that Nintendo's presentation today was disappointing to me for several reasons:

1. Not a single new 3rd party game of any significance was revealed. Their 3rd party showcase was embarrasing. These games had already been announced. There are no games to fill the gaps in Nintendo's release schedule. Capcom, Konami, Square Enix, Namco, Activision, EA etc had nothing to show.

2. Games arriving later than I thought they would.I was expecting 3D Mario by October and Mario Kart by Christmas.

3. Mario 3D World looked underwhelming (but will still be good).

4. Only one new Wii U game announced - Donkey Kong Country

5. Retro's game seemed unambitous (but I love DKC, so I don't really care)

Dead Rising 3

Pffft. I'd be happy if Dead Rising 3 were derivative. Or, rather, if it were derivative of past Dead Risings instead of looking like I MAED A S4NDB0X GAM3 W1TH Z0MBIES!!!1

That would be a decent game.

I have a bet with some guys here about Nintendo showing more news games than Sony... can somebody remember me?

There was no reason to expect anything new besides what Retro is working on in the first place, so I laugh at whoever took that bet.

The funniest thing is that they didn't showcase ANY use of the gamepad except for Tingle.

So Nintendo were going to revolutionize gaming yet again with their controller, but they themselves have found no use for it yet. I remember when Nintendo actually designed their hardware around their brilliant game ideas. Now they came up with a silly hardware gimmick and have no idea how to use it, or how to promote it. Such a joke.

Incorrect. The Wonderful 101 also used the GamePad as a primary control feature.

I have to agree with him to an extent, we really haven't seen anything new outside "X" when you have MS touting 15 exclusives in the first year of XB1 with 7 new IPs and Sony touting 30 exclusives within the first year with 12 new IPs it reallly makes you wonder why isn't Ninty doing this as well.

sequels/remakes/spin-offs only get so far without feeling a little tiring/old

Well, I don't really see how this is different from past years...

It is different. Remember, this was the Direct that should have had a game that shows off the Wii U's true power. Which everyone banked on that it would be a new IP from Retro, hence why people don't like the actual games and especially not Donkey Kong Country which is a crappy 2D platformer and a waste of talent and resources.

Huh. I guess nobody cares about X after all.

Wonderful 101 was shown last year, so nothing new. and it's not made by Nintendo.
