Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo hardly showed anything new AT ALL; have they run out of ideas? (Rant)

@ONE Zelda: 4 Swords, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess. I'd count that as 2 ;) 4 Swords: ½, WW: 1, TP: ½

@ONE Metroid: Prime, Other M And N64 didn't have ANY Metroid game...

@ONE 3D Mario: 3DWorld, upcoming 60-man orchestra Mario game. I'm so hoping this is true! THAT would be awesome!

The numbers just do not fit your point of view, they have resources assigned for the next big-production Mario game and it doesn't fit in a game of the caliber (or lack thereof) of 3DW.

I can't believe I have to argue this it is just so glaringly obvious to me.

Stop hoping and get real!!! Given what we know, that's the only conclusion. 3DW does not in any way exclude a proper successor to Galaxy, not in any way. Your logic for the examples I gave though funny couldn't convince anyone with half a brain.

I don't think you can determine which path 3D Mario should take until after we see sales figures for 3D World. If it passes Galaxy 2 like 3D Land did, then this is a step forward.

I can already play this game - on 3DS! That's the problem. I really do hope thet 3dLand/World becomes a new spin off - but it's not a "proper" 3D Mario like Galaxy or 64.

Truth be told, it seems as if this was envisioned as part of the same sub-set as 3D Land to begin with. Like how Galaxy 1-2 is a sub-set. And NSMB is a sub-set.

Which means it'll probably end at some point. I don't see EAD Tokyo pushing further after they play the multiplayer card... they seem to be focused on delivering upon ideas that couldn't be done in 3D Land (since it's a handheld title), similar to how Galaxy 2 existed because of the many leftover concepts from Galaxy 1.

I hope you're right. I hope they're making another 3D Mario! That will make me love 3DWorld for what it is! But right now, to me, it's the successor to Galaxy... And that's one of my gripes with it.

I don't think Nintendo sees it the same way. They probably see 3D Land as the Galaxy successor, and 3D World as building upon 3D Land.

I guess it makes sense that after writing themselves into a corner (seriously, what comes after Galaxy?), Nintendo would go for a back-to-basics approach. Or an extremely different and strange one (like Sunshine). I do have a feeling that we'll see a second Mario game by EAD Tokyo on Wii U. It is a two-team developer, after all. Unless the second team is working on something different. Like Miyamoto's new IP or something (this is not a prediction).

This! You're totally getting where I'm coming from!

I don't hate Nintendo, but I am disappointed. And 3DWorld isn't amazing - it's basically Mario 3D Land U. I'm VERY sure it's a great game, but it's not what 3D Mario is about. 3D Mario is about re-inventing Mario (Mario 64 - Mario SUnshine - Mario Galaxy). I'm not saying these games are bad; I'm positive they'll rock! But it's the lack of new ideas that bugs me.

1) I'm not saying 3D looks amazing, I'm referring to DKC Freeze or whatever.

Sonic Lost World is a megaton imo. And he got like 2 seconds of gameplay...

2) Given that Sonic has been precent exclusively on previous Nintendo platforms this can hardly be considered a megaton

Yes, I was expecting a new IP. They always brings a new IP every gen. Just look at the Wii-series.

3) Tell me when was the last time Nintendo showed a new "core" IP? I'm not talking about the Wii series here. The last one was W101 (and yes the IP belongs to Nintendo, not Platinum games), did you expect a new IP coming from Nintendo this soon? Again too many high expectations

My expectations are in line with how Nintendo works. They always brings new ideas to their franchises. Did not see that.

4)  As much as I didn't liked 3D Mario, we can't still rule out the possibility of new game ideas. The game aesthetically doesn't look like any improvements, but there might be some new gameplay mechanics (outside of power ups).

You get new ideas with W101, Bayonetta 2, maybe some new gameplay elements with 3D Mario and DKC. Again the games being the same aesthetically doesn't mean the play the same.

2) So you weren't surprised at all that Nintendo landed that exclusive?!

3) I wasn't expecting a new core IP. I was expecting A new IP.

4) I hope you're right.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Nintendo seem no longer able to deliver, it's frustrating but is their new reality. There is no point in setting high expectations when it comes to them.

Anyway, even the current Nintendo which is a shadow of its former self, has more games that I'm interested in than all that was presented in the E3 by western companies.  Next-gen gaming is more than ever becoming into next-yawn gaming.

I apologize in advance for my bad english.

@3. Why though? It makes absolutely no sense given Nintendo's history of IPs and newness of IPs.

Actually no. The game looks great don't get me wrong, but the Wii had a couple of exclusive Sonic games, this wasn't really a surprise.

Its not a lack of ideas, it's Nintendo unwillingness to allow their divisions to try new stuff because they have become so complacent. I guess this is what having a console that makes billions gets you. You see Eiji Aonuma start to voice his concerns of not wanting to make yet another Zelda game, I'm sure the people at Retro tire of regurgitating the same old Nintendo franchises in making another Mario kart or Donkey Kong platformer (Something that Rare would laugh at). But the same old people here would say hey its innovation blah blah or try to downplay Sony or Microsoft's offerings by including them.

I do not agree with your first sentence. Mario Galaxy was trying new stuff. Skyward Sword was trying new stuff. 3DLand was trying new stuff. FPS Metroid was trying new stuff.

But yeah, the rest I kinda have to agree with. to a certain extension.

As far as I know they only have a home console team and a handheld team, or have that changed?

I wonder then how they made Smash and Pikmin 3 then, they must have pulled it out of their asses.

Then I'm guessing that you're fully believe that Retro will have another game to show soon as well? Because a 2D platformer doesn't take 3 to make, right?
