It was really anti climatic. Considering all the talent they have been hiring, people were expecting something more than just a 2d platformer.

Because they couldn't. If this is even close to as great as Donkey Kong Country returns, Nintendo's B-teams couldn't touch is with an unlimited budget and production time. Retro's level design has a different flavour to other Nintendo studios, none of the others could have done it the same. Being a 2D platformer doesn't make it bad. Some of the best games ever made are 2D platformers. |
Honestly, from what I've seen, I like the looks of this game even more than DKCR. And if it's better than DKCR, eat your heart out, Rayman, because you're looking at the best 2D platformer of the year.
No average B-team could "shit out" such a high-quality 2D platformer. Not even Nintendo's A-team can make such a game anymore. Only Retro.
I understand why people are disappointed, but I also think that once the disappointment wears off, the hype for this game will grow at breakneck speeds.

Really glad.
I know I'm on the minority here, but I was very excited with that. DKCR is one of my favorite games of all time and the greatest 2D platformer ever created.
I know why I'm disappointed. Although I really liked DKCR and thought it was probably the best 2d platformer of the 7th gen (those level design). I remember playing it around the same time the 3ds was about to be released and thinking this game would be a perfect fit for the 3ds they are obviously making a sequel for that platform I cannot wait for that.
Then they release for 3ds the version I already played on my wii and on top of that sequel is announced for wiiU that could have easily been on wii or 3ds (I guess they would not have been able to render his fur). I see absolutely no reason this game should not have been released for wii or 3ds, I should not have to buy a new console to play this game.

Yeah pretty disappointed.. I mean DK... if your going with a Nintendo franchise.. and not a new IP.. do something better like Metroid.. or maybe something more surprising like say Custom Robo/Arena.. or Chibi Robo.. or maybe a F Zero.. or true Pilot Wings.. (Resort I don't believe counts) Heck if you really want to impress actually make a Mario RPG 2(Not Paper Mario) I am sure people would be going gaga for that.. but Donkey Kong.. is something you know your going to get eventually.. (Either a real game or spinoff) So yeah it's a disappointment..
Nintendo Wii by generations...
1. Wii
2. Wii U
3. Wii O U
Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.
Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)
Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)
Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)

Agreed. If Artoon could do just a good a job at making a 2D platformer as Nintendo's best, why shouldn't they just outsource the genre from now on?

I'm right with you man; DKCR is amazing and I am incredibly hyped for this game. I actually prefer this to another Metroid.
