It's for fun, nothing more. Online means a lot as far as skill (the top ranking irl players all do well online as an example) but offline is of course a lot more convincing as far as actually judging skill.

I just got myself an easy win on AllisBrawl, I pulled out a beam sword and the guy cancelled the match because he thought I had items on. Then when I told him Peach can always pull out swords, he gave me the win because he was ashamed of his error.
