PS3 might look impressive with a 98% sales increase against Wiis 28% increase (and I'm sure Sony would use that as a news statement)

but it's still only 9000 units more than the Wii's increase.

 Those games are only temporary boost, double after Others comes into play is not going to happen, at best 50% increases overall

That is, for year-to-year, NA and Japan, PS3 sales went up, but only 6.7%.


But perhaps it was Total Other that boosted up X360 and Wii. So...

X360 climbed up about equally in Total Others as it did in NA. (I think we all realize we can ignore X360 in Japan, which is a good thing, since their sales, hard as it is to believe, were able to go down.)

But the Wii's increase was primary in Total Other, which as you can see from above more than double from last year.

johnsobas - Good logic but show your numbers. Not the same for all 3 w/o Europe. W/o Europe, X360 was the winner in sales increases (in NA, of course.)

Munkeh111 - If PS3 does double for the rest of the year, it will be on the back of European sales. PS3 didn't do that much in the rest of the world the past month. Of course the same could be said about the Wii. But European sales did come thru for it, and NA sales are recovering strongly.

Interesting, I had not tried the comparison without Others but I had tried a Japan only comparison for the PS3 and sales were up 20%, this must mean that US sales of PS3 are actually down compared to last year ( actually not that surprising, it had just been released ).

Looking good for gaming in general. The PS3 will have the best year over year results all year long. Even once it hits the one year in EU date it will still be doubling last year. The US is going to really start eating it up around march. We should start seeing a fair increase over last years US numbers starting their and at points hitting as high as 4x week over week. In Japan they are garanteed to stay well above the clip they were selling at last year. It will never find 7k again. If MGS4 comes out on schedule, in june Sony could match their sumer 07 japan sales in one week. EU being the PS3's strong point right now will only grow stronger thought the year. I see it outselling Wii very soon, as in April.

well its good to see that all of them saw increases and i think they will continue to sell higher then last year which will be really interesting to watch

What about PS2 numbers?

 Unlikely, as Wii has bigger game releases coming out in that period basically until the end of the year you have strong Wii sales, Brawl, Kart, Wii fit, Mario Party, Animal crossing and Kirby and mario baseball will keep Wii sales high in all regions for the rest of the year

Still Renar it should be noted that without Others Wii is still higher increase than PS3, year on year even with the very weak NA supply (PS3 just has the advantage of going from zeor to an actual number for others, while Wii's jump is of course smaller because thy actually had sales last year in others)

There will be price cuts then, dramatically increasing sales, and what I mean is that it will sell double what it did Jan - Au, which was 3.2m (however, there were 800k of others sales within the first few week) . However, I don't think it will break 6m in that time, closer to 5m actually, so I think a 60-70% increase is more likely
