That would be amazing if true! I read somewhere that Microsoft wanted the Xbox One to be profitable from day 1 so the Xbox One will certainly be $400+.

those things happened mostly because of mistakes from nintendo and sega. and that same strategy didn't stop nintendo from recaliming the dominance and almost killed sony. |
I could say that Sony losing this Gen was mostly because of Sony own mistakes and not Nintendo/MS rights too. But that wouldn't be right.
The same applies to Sega and Nintendo in the 90s
Dominance ?
SNES,PS1 and PS2 were dominant. Wii wasn't.

Sure, the whole game design that made wii appealing wasn't nintendo making things right in any way. look, the only reason sony didn't get completely screwed this past gen was because of ps2's sucess. devs only bothered with ps3 because they took it for granted it would dominate. do you think the 360 would have the same support if it switched hardware with the ps3? NO, it would have been ignored.

So sony did a good thing, capitalizing on the mistakes of its competitors. And the strategy that was used for the PS3 was far different than that of the PS1 and PS2 hince the different outcomes. And what did Nintendo gain from getting back its dominance, two years of losses and two underperforming new consoles?
Sony have come out and said they're not going to be taking big losses on the PS4. Not going to happen.

I'd be shocked, but happy as a customer. I think $450 and $500 are more likely. Wouldn't a sub-$400 price tag carry a significant loss per console sold?
I don't understand why consumers would be bothered by a cheap PS4, I can understand forum dwellers who despise Sony and want them to crash and burn but we have three analyst mention that the PS4 will be under $400 and two saying that Sony will have a positive BOM. Those two things alone should be cheered and is a far departure from 2006. Its a win for Sony and a win for consumers (at least when it comes to price) Competition is best when things are competitive.

But Kat gave a lot of legit reasons why those losses won't be required, in that conference. If anything he implies that the console should come cheap, and keep in mind that the loss on the PS3 was circa 300$ so losses lower than those from the PS3 don't tell as much, since the range might be: 30$ up to 150$.
After that interview I'm even more positive, that the lower end SKU (if the launch with more then one) will be 399$.
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
Greatness Awaits!
I have my reservations, but $400 is the absolute maximum you'd think they could get away with.
