Forums - Microsoft - Bethesda on Xbox One: We're Still Unsure on Used Game Policy

This is more evidence i think that not every publisher is behind this DRM deal. Aside from EA, Activision and maybe Capcom.

Its EA, Activision, and Ubisoft Giant Bomb already confirmed this

I get the impression Sony won't employ these measures for their first party titles, and that's all that matters to me since I love their games. I only own 3 games from EA (the Mass Effect games) and 0 from Activision, so that's not an issue for me. I love R*'s games, and they don't seem interested in employing those measures either. It's only Capcom I 'might' have an issue with, but with the backlash they've been getting, I won't be surprised if they shied away from that .... or not lulz

Sony will most definitely continue the Online Pass Program which is not that bad at all.

That I can live with. I'm totally fine with that. But the DRM stuff I am totally against since I'm from a developing country - things are a lot less stable.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Kind of strange, the Azure setup will ensure publishers and developers an actual income from used game sales, unlike the existing model. Or is it that they're afraid that consumers won't like the arrangement and thus will shy away from the platform? That would be the only logical reasoing behind their hesitation right now.

I think that MS needs to realise that they should strive for both consumer friendly and developer friendly. Right now, they're headed for a place that is not consumer friendly and developer/publisher friendly only for the big guns, this might hurt them a great deal in the long run, I imagine it could be difficult to move the One in Europe and Japan (Europe is such a complex region and the multitude of laws, languages and cultures is bound to make this twice as hard for the One).

What I got from that is, "We don't know enough about their policies to come to an informed decision."

So much like most "information" threads, it's actually pretty pointless and doesn't tell you a thing.

Well, isn't the publisher supposed to know what they wanted, if Microsoft is to be belived? I think it confirmes that not every publisher is behind this DRM thing.

Why would a publisher not be behind a used game system where the decision is totally up to the publishers?

Isn't Microsoft doing this beforehand on behalf of the publishers? So what is there for them to be unsure about?

You mean to say; if this publisher didn't want it after all, that Microsoft will allow used Bethesda games on the console without restrictions? Or am i not getting something here!

From what I could tell it's the publisher's decision to allow used games or not and to allow lending to friend or not. MS does set a few guidlines such as only having second hand games at allowed retailers (which I would imagine accounts for 90% of used games). So essentially it boils down to the publisher deciding if they will allow used games or not allow used games. From what I read, I gathered that Bethesda simply wants to know every little detail and know how everything works before deciding what type of policy they will implement on the whole thing.

That's what I'm thinking! I find it difficult to believe that Bethesda care that much about consumers, to be honest. They're a business first and foremost, like most major developers and publishers.

its the same as sony as its up to them why the x1 is getting all the bad press is not right. sony has said that its policy on used games is also left up to the publisher

Yes, but look at this generation. Only EA, Activision, Capcom and sometimes Ubisoft made use of the DRM available. A lot of publisher won't use this, especially the Japanese ones. The Xbox One has it for every game, you know that beforehand.

A chance is better than nothing at all. That's why Microsoft is getting more heat for it. But to be honest Microsoft is not being critisized for this alone. There is the TV focus and always online thing.

yeah but do you honestly think that a company will have no used on system but not on the other so in the end there the same.

yeah i know about the other things but i think the tv thing will be fixed at e3 if they are true about it being just about games.

and i think over time people will accept the online thing it may take awhile but i think ms will make it worth it in the end i could be wrong just my opion

That's like saying one person likes fish, so everyone has to like fish.  Just because Microsoft did it, does not make it obligatory for Sony to do the same.

Just like that because Sony leaves it up to publishers, doesn't mean that publishers will actually go through with it.  Publishers already have the option to do so on the PS3 if they wanted to.

Saying that all publishers are going to do it just because it's available is unrealistic.  Witcher 3 develoer, CD Projekt Red, has stated that they'll never use DRM because of the backlash they've had with Witcher 2 originally having DRM on it for the PC.  Rockstar stated that they they have no intereset in DRM.  There are a lot of small publishers that would be killed if they added DRM to their games.  They have small fanbases to begin with and you rarely see a lot of these niche games being sold used.

The only developers that I would think would ever use this used game policy is EA, Warner Bros, Activision, Square Enix, and Capcom.  I'd give Sega, Namco Bandai, and Koei a benefit of the doubt, but there's always the possibility as these three companies don't make the smartest decisions.
