Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft on why Xbox One games will be “locked to you”

It seems the content gets locked to your account and not the console itself, which is not good, but better than what the Wii U is doing right now i must say.

I don't think he has said that.  The account that installs the game owns that content and it becomes digitally assigned to it, but it doesn't mean it isn't available to everyone else on that console.

There is nothing to say that you can't do that still.

You either need to further clarify your wants/needs, or I'm missing something.

So just PR huh. Bah.

We already knew this stuff.

So what does that mean if your console died or broke? You can reactivate everything on a new one, without much hassle? The PS3 and Xbox 360 can for instance while the Wii U can't.

THis, honestly i dont get it. The systems they had in place for PS360 were almost perfect they just had to tweak that. DOnt know how these new systems will have advantages for anyone, but i would love to see them explain it soon.

Why wouldn't you be able to?  It's a current feature of the Xbox 360, so I would assume it's a feature of the Xbox One.

And if you end-up going through five or more consoles with the PS3 it becomes a hassle.  PS3 DRM limits the number of installs total to five, beyond that it's a call.  The only current limit on the Xbox 360 is one re-licensing (to the console) per year unless you use Microsoft Support services for any repairs or replacements, then as long as they perform the re-licensing, as many times as necessary.

@Adinnieken,

But that's just it. The 360 can do that, but from the reports it seems as if Microsoft wants to change that with the XBox One. Well we'll just have to see how this goes, maybe they were just stupid in their announcement or it will change before launch due to all the negativity about the subject.

By the way, you're right about the PS3's limit to 5 consoles. But you can always just deactivate those previous consoles online, so you can keep adding new ones that way :D

"When we asked what happens if players want to lend a game to a friend, Spencer replied: “I think the whole idea of a secondary market is important and it’ll be important in the next generation and we’ve designed [Xbox One] with that in mind from the beginning.""

"we recognise the importance of [the secondary] market and we’ve designed with that in mind from the beginning."

"We’ll share more details as we get further along the road."

Why not share the details now if the Xbox One was designed with the secondary market in mind from the beginning?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
