Forums - Nintendo - Beware of fake Wii U Pro controllers on Amazon

but it's not selling well why so would anybody want to make something that does not sell?

I get it with Wii but not WiiU :P

Maybe the one who made it, didn't expect the Wii U to sell as badly as it has been. Or maybe it doesn't matter how much it sells as long as they make some money.

Nintendo offers plenty of Wii U accessories, including the Wii U pro controller. While the regular pro controller retails at $50, some of them have been spotted for as low as $30. Turns out, those are counterfeit ones, and they’ve been sold on Amazon.

Amazon, the largest online retailer in the world, has several sub-sellers that use its site as their shop. And some of those sellers aren’t as trustworthy as you might think. One Wii U owner purchased a Wii U Pro controller on Amazon and found out that there was something “off” about it. The controller wasn’t working properly either, with the analog sticks malfunctioning. Then he purchased a Pro controller at Best Buy, and found out there was a huge difference between the two.

While the real and fake controllers look similar, he reports that the buttons on the fake one are too “tight” and that its buttons and build quality isn’t as good — which comes as no surprise. But it’s hard to spot the fake controller, as on the surface, it looks like the real deal, and even comes in a box that’s nearly identical to the genuine Nintendo controller.

A simple way to make sure you have the real Wii U pro controller, is to buy it from authorized sellers, such as game stores, Best Buy, and other retailers. Also, the real controller costs $50, while the knock-off costs around $30. However, Amazon needs to crack down on these sorts of products and sellers on its site, as many gamers buy the controllers thinking they’re genuine, since they’re bought on Amazon and not some shady-looking site.

Check out the gallery of the real and fake controllers below. Can you spot the fake one?

And how can people know which is different? Gray buttons fake and black buttons real ?

Ah, crap! And I just won an auction on a refurb one for $21. Please tell me the one with the grayish buttons is the real one!

According to Chris1596, who's a Wii U owner, that is the official one. Can't give you more authentication than that!

Maybe it's an idea to email the one who's gonna send it and ask about it, although i don't he's gonna say his is fake, even if it was :S

Thing is, he may not even know if it's a fake. I'll mail him, just in case, but it's too late anyway. T_T

I don't think it's fake I bought it from a supermarket and if you look on game the picture shows the controller with grey buttons and another one is the screw next to the sync button on the fake one its sliver not black

Happens a lot with all the controllers.. if the price is too good on ebay or amazon it's probably a fake..

yes on of them is fake

Yeah I unfortunately got one fake DS3, the price was to good not to buy it (like 40% cheaper) and it was almost identical.

At least until I didn't try to use it...

I thought if it would be a fake one, the first thing they wouldn't put in it would be gyro/accelerometer but that works just fine. But it takes way longer then normal to connect to the console, has less battery life, different rumble, it lacks the little reset button and worst of all the right analog is screwed, it has like a really big deadzone...

Ahh well I got my lesson not to buy electronics from auction sites.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

o.o? and now?

I have a couple of fake PS3 controllers. I knew they were fake when I bought them but they were so cheap I didn't care lol they work exactly the same, well the motion controls are a bit weird at times, but otherwise they're great :p

Nice. It looks pretty much like the real thing, but the bottom one is indeed fake. I needed to get my own to be sure though.

Mine comes directly from the source, ZombiU bundle, so it has 0% chance to be fake; ABXY buttons are matte (grey), triggers are straight, battery compartment curves with the shape of the back and the screw on the back is black. So Chris1596 is indeed correct .

Fake PS Vita

I'd totally buy a fake console that allows me to play Metal Slug =D

You can play it on the real one too ;)

OT, there are tons of fake dualshocks on ebay and amazon as well. So much so that I never buy them from third party sellers.

Heh, not a problem on Amazon.de...Amazon itself sells it for the best price :D
