I can't stand 3D with glasses.  It gives me a headache and I don't feel as immersed in the movie because of the presense of the glasses - which runs counter to the purpose of 3D.

They're all usually too small for my massive head.

Ah, that's understandable, though I thought 3D in general can be rough on the head. I think it just takes time getting used to, as I had similar problems with it at first, but now I can play Sonic Generations for hours without any blacklash.

Also, don't get the wrong idea here. I love the notion of glasses free 3D, as I'm just a 3D enthusiast in general. It's just the sweet spot thing that is putting it under Glasses 3D for me. Once that issue is taken of, which'll hopefully be by the next system, then I'll glady say it's superior to using glasses, since you know, why you use glasses when you can get the same thing without them.

Trueness, though of course I woulda liked it better if there were no sweet spot, but I guess that wasn't possible yet. Hopefully their next handheld will be sweet spot-less, and it'll work with the then old 3DS games.

I would also like a spotless 3DS but that takes far too much love and care.

That's why I said on the next system.

Heh, true. What games have your favorite 3D visuals?

I'm personally am troubled a lot having to wear 3d glasses over my specs. I try to avoid 3D movies because of them.

Do you like 3D itself? How has the 3DS's 3D been treating you?

I don't like them only for the lowered brightness and what I already mentioned. Never tried 3DS.

I think the lower brightness comes from the glasses which are dark tinted, not the 3D itself. The 3D on the 3DS actually makes things look brighter and more vibrant, hence I usually leave it barely on at the lowest. On my TV I just turn the brightness all the way to the max, though it is still darker than it should be. But yeah, I completely understand why some are not fans of 3D, but thankfully it's only a matter of time before using glasses to view 3D images becomes a thing of the past, and glasses free 3D becomes the standard. At that point, there wont be many reasons not to enjoy 3D hehe.

In hindsight I think Nintendo would've opted not to build the DS successor around the 3D concept, but hindsight is 20/20. They probably felt like they needed some kind of "hook" and that was the best they could come up with.

Unfortunately for them when the system didn't sell well initially, it burned them and they had to eat a hardware loss which led to their first fiscal loss in company history. That type of 3D screen is a custom component and was likely pretty expensive.

Yeah, ever since the DS they've always had some unique thing going on physically with their systems. I've liked all the gimmicks thus far, but I don't think they need anything new for the next handheld. Just an overall improvement from the 3DS. Make it HD, glasses free 3D without a sweet spot on both screens, touchscreen is also widescreen, a second circle pad on the left side, give the circle pads ridges or bumps so your thumbs can't slide off, a higher quality camera, and so ons. That would be my dream machine, but it'll probably take two gens to get there, atleast at a reasonable price.

3D glasses were, are and always will be a horrible idea. It's a gimmick and little else. Until HDTVs start coming out with 3D glass technology, the whole 3D thing is just a niche market for IMAX theaters.

I don't really care about 3D but this glasses free tv tech gets me wondering whether it's possible to do glasses free simulview or multiview. I know it works in car nav systems, driver sees sat nav, passenger can watch tv on the same screen. Why not do it for tv's, upto 4 different programs simultaneously, together with directional audio speakers.
Or 2 way 3D on each side with surround audio remixed to the left and right side of the room for each program.
